I live in Bedfordshire, UK with my husband, two children and two cats. I work as a Teaching Assistant in a small school and love supporting the children and sharing my love of writing. When I am not at my laptop, I enjoy learning the piano and going to the theatre. My debut novel is called Cells and was published in March 2020.

Austin Mitchell has written more than eighty short stories. He has also written several plays, poems and
novels. He has attended several writing workshops. Several of his short stories have been published in
newspapers in Jamaica. He is a past student of St. Mary’s College, Above Rocks, St. Catherine. He is from a community, called Glengoffe, one of the largest communities in the island, which is in the north east of the island, bordering the parishes of St. Mary and St. Andrew. In this book, I want to give a synopsis of my personal experience during the Great Recession in the United States from 2008 to 2011. This time was extremely hard financially for millions of Americans and I was part of that wave of people that lost their jobs during this time. In the United States, your job is what defines you and it is the first topic of conversation with someone at the coffee shop or at the bar. Many of my friends that emigrated from Europe in the late 2000’s was shocked and appalled by the idea that your identity is tied to your job in this country. They would say that in Europe, people judged you by the level of education achieved and not by the type of employment that you had

Author Bio:
When I was 15, I faced my own Mount Everest when I was granted a visitor’s visa to play basketball at the National Basketball Youth Tournament in Chicago. I thought about the pros and cons many times, and I made the decision to embark on a new journey to a whole new country. Despite all the challenges that I faced, I never gave up and kept going. I am that person. Once I say I will do something, it will happen.

Back in 2001, I wrote an article in my junior year in high school and won 2nd place in the contest by the PAL, Police Athletic League, named Stories my Grandparents told me.

I was also featured in Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the National Dean’s List in college.

Now, I put that perseverance to work as a History Teacher in the poorest school district in New York State, South Bronx and have just published a book called Immigrant Life that details life prior to the United States and the years here.

Antoinette Truglio Martin wrote Daily Bread from the stories her grandmother, aunts,and mother told around the dinner table. Antoinette is also the author of the memoir Hug Everyone You Know: A Year of Community, Courage, and Cancer and the children’s picture book, Famous Seaweed Soup. She proudly holds an MFA in Creative Writing and Literature from Stony Brook/Southampton University, had several essays published in local journals, and wrote regular columns for local periodicals. As a retired educator, she now conducts author visits in the schools and professional development seminars for teachers.
