Alexandra Psaropoulou was born on the 12th August 1966 in Athens, Greece in the year of the horse of fire. At the age of 16, she went to England to continue her studies at St.Mary’s in Wiltshire and Anglia Ruskin in Cambridge. She lived in Paris and New York, before returning to Greece to settle. Her father was a renowned poet and author and had a successful publishing company in Greece. Her mother was a ballet dancer, critic, and teacher as well as president of the Dance Union in Greece. Her family social circles, ever since a little girl, were rich with artists, writers, and academics. She lives with her husband, a classical guitar soloist, and four children outside of Athens by the sea and publishes her own poetry on Amazon. I started out in print journalism but lost the taste for hard news pretty quickly. Fortunately, I never lost my love for books and reading. Some of my favorite genres include science fiction, adventure, mystery/thriller, and fantasy. Rev. Annie L. Varner was born in Opelika, Alabama. At a very early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She knew that it was her duty to follow the will of God. Reverend Varner understood that those whom God calls must be grounded in His Holy Word, and they should develop their skills in Christian discipleship before they answer the call to ministry.

Reverend Varner first step in answering God’s call was to join a “working church” where the foundation of God’s Word would be placed in her heart. She completed a two-year course of study in Christian Counseling at the Halpine Church School. To develop a sound ministry foundation, she enrolled at the Metropolitan Faith Center School of Ministry. She completed a two-year program that included courses in: The Gifts of the Holy Spirit, Faith, Christian Counseling, Healing Truth, Church, the Life and Ministry of Jesus, Praise and Worship, Pastoral Excellence and Education, Sermon Preparation, and the Ministry of Family.

In 1994, Reverend Varner joined the Church of St. Martin de Porres. This allowed her the opportunity to put her beliefs into action. She headed many ministries from feeding the homeless to leading bible study. She used every opportunity to share the love and gospel of Jesus Christ. She also sponsored quarterly prayer breakfast and assisted the pastor with Baptisms and dedications.

In 1999, she began training for the Deaconate and in 2004; she was elevated to the position of Reverend. She summarizes her life experiences as “The call that was always there,” firmly believing that the New Testament is clear concerning God’s call on the life of all believers. As believers, we are to assume a new identity. God sees us as joint heirs with His Son Jesus. We are His Ambassadors commissioned to take the message of the gospel throughout the world.

While serving at Doctor’s Hospital in Lanham Maryland as a Chaplain, she was inspired to write “The Mind of a Grasshopper.” She has always believed it to be her Christian duty to guide others to have the mind of Christ and to always see themselves as more than how they see themselves.
In 2010, feeling a call from God to witness to young people, she formed her program called “On His wings of Eagles.” She holds this event bi-annuals. This program was designed to give youth a platform to showcase their skills and talents as well as to nourish them spiritually.
In 2014, She graduated from Greater Mount Calvary Bible Institute with a certificate in Ministry.
Reverend Varner continues to spread the gospel and is working on a several projects that will encourage others in the word of God.

Kenneth was humbly raised in Virginia, one of eight kids. He attended Old Dominion University as an undergraduate in electrical engineering before enlisting in the United States Air Force (USAF). After basic and technical military training, he moved to Cambridge, England to work as an air traffic controller. After five years, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics and was commissioned an officer about a year later. Kenneth served his country within the USAF in various assignments around the globe for more than two decades, before retiring as a senior officer in 2005.

Most of Kenneth’s adult life was spent in Europe. Over the years, he has traveled to dozens of countries and has been fortunate enough to live in Brazil, England, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Spain. Kenneth was married for 21 years and is the father of two grown sons and a stepdaughter. Unfortunately, he found himself divorced at age 43, but retired and financially secure with a military pension at 44. Thus, he set about traveling for ten years to live, learn and experience the world with open eyes.

During that time, Kenneth experienced many rewarding and memorable solo treks across Europe, including a 1,200-mile walk over 44 days across Scotland, Wales, and England in 2010.

The ‘walking bug’ has taken him on many 200- and 300-mile treks across Europe, to include different parts of England, Wales, Sicily, Sardinia, and Germany. Fitness is important to Kenneth, who enjoys mixing things up with biking, tennis, running, and working out. He loves nature and tries to get outdoors whenever he can.

Kenneth became a first-time author at 47, and has gone on to write several books to help men and women through relationships and important decisions. The Salon of Exiled Artists in California is a biography of Salka Viertel, a Jewish actress who emigrated to Hollywood and was popularly known as the screenwriter of the Swedish actress Greta Garbo. Besides, she had a salon in Santa Monica, California, which was attended by a large part of the European intelligentsia in exile. Salka was a very modern and interesting woman for her time who should be recognized as such.

The book deals with topics such as Salka Viertel’s alleged bisexuality and the number of friends she had, to name but a few: Albert Einstein, Charles Chaplin, Sergei Eisenstein, F. W. Murnau, Max Reinhardt, Arnold Schönberg, Thomas Mann, Bertolt Brecht, Greta Garbo, Montgomery Clift… Also, like Gertrude Stein and other notorious women, she had her literary salon through which writers like Truman Capote, Christopher Isherwood, Gore Vidal and many other writers passed. Other themes she covers are the Berlin of the 1920s; the transition from silent to spoken film, as seen from the Mecca of Hollywood. Then, the rise of Hitler and what it meant for the Jewish condition; the exile of those intellectuals who could not return to their respective countries because of the Second World War. Later, the Cold War and the witch-hunt against communism. The truth is that the background to the life of Salka Viertel and her circle of friends encompasses the great events of the 20th century.

With this project, the author was awarded the Shanghai Writing Program (China, 2016) and the Baltic Centre (Sweden, 2017) residency grants.

Q: You are currently working on a biography of Salka Viertel. Tell us what it is about this actress and screenwriter that drew you to write her biography?
A: As I learned about Salka Viertel, I saw just how fascinating a woman she was. In the 1930s, she was well known as a specialist on scripts for Greta Garbo, but she is much more than that. In exile in California she created a salon that welcomed many prominent European artists, composers, film and theater directors, actors, physicians and writers who emigrated to the US, fleeing Nazism. Her house was a shelter for intellectuals, and this is what attracted me. And I love cinema and classic films, and appreciate other women’s lives.
Q: Do you consider Salka Viertel an antihero?
A: Yes, as a Jewish woman in exile in the 1930s, she is an antihero. In Europe, she was an actress who had to leave her work and dreams. When her husband’s contract expired, she had to learn English and support him and the family for many years. Her work as a screenwriter was closely associated with Swedish actress Greta Garbo, so much so that when Garbo retired from the silver screen, it meant the end for Salka Viertel as well.

David A. Tatum was born in Ithaca, NY, the son of a fashion designer and a book-collecting librarian who later became a spy. By the time he was four years old, he’d mastered how to spell the word “cat,” which made inevitable his decision to become an author.

Moving to Washington DC in order to keep his parents company, he started training in kenpo by the age of seven. Sadly, after failing to achieve his blackbelt despite twenty years of training, he gave up hopes of a career in martial arts and resumed his love of writing.

By the time he was in high school, he joined a national organization dedicated to adventure and exploration — later becoming a chapter president — with the goal of using it to identify a route into the center of the Earth. Unfortunately, the Suffolk, Virginia caves he explored were all dead ends.
