Most women anyway, but one thing for sure, Margaret Rose Nolan, wasn’t most women. Born into north Appalachian’s piedmont, she knew what she wanted, and it wasn’t to live in the backwoods of Alabama surrounded by poverty and ignorance. She didn’t care what women were supposed to do or what others thought of her; she followed a single-minded purpose — create opportunities for the things she desired. If getting what she wanted required manipulating men, then that was too bad for them. It wasn’t her fault men liked her, but she used it and used it well. In those days, women called her a Jezebel. She called them ignorant. She moved from moonshine to champagne, from rowboats to cruise ships, from foolish foothill suitors to society’s elite, usually at the expense of others, even her own children.
Pat Conroy, my first cousin, and I spent time in our grandmother’s ‘big house’ in Atlanta. Pat and I traveled together to Piedmont, Alabama, to research our family history. I spent many summers visiting with the people who knew Margaret when she was young. Much later in life, our ailing grandmother came to live with my wife and me for more than a year. She regaled us with tales of her life. This book is a fictionalized account of her life. She lived the life as told, but just like her, the story has to have some lies and exaggerations, or it wouldn’t be our grandmother.

I am an old man who nearly escaped a family curse. I write because I must. Dark angels descend upon me if I go too long without clicking keys so characters appear. Oh, how they torment me. I’ve tried to resist, but it is useless. So, here I sit, every day, pressing keys, praying sometimes whole words appear and my demons are sated.
No one cares about why I write or don’t write. They care less if I upload something I have written. I certainly don’t write for fame or wealth. I write because I must.
I mention the family curse. Four of my cousins are writers. Pat Conroy is the most famous. He had other demons. His sister, Carol is a published poet. Another of my dead cousins wrote for syndicated newspapers and Herbie, who is older than me, has over a hundred published books to his name. He’ll be dead soon. We are all old.
At least Pat’s works were well received.
I took most of my work off Kindle last year. It annoyed me to have to think I had written these books but didn’t have the money or knowledge or energy to promote them. Now I am slowly editing and republishing the. I am uploading them again as the dark angels tend to grant respite so long as I work on something I wrote.
You can check them out if you like. I don’t write in a single genre. A smart young woman who knows a lot about successful authors in our time told me moving away from your genre is a career-killing move. What career, I asked? She also told me when I relaunch my books, I need new covers, a new platform, and lots of marketing money. After I paid her, there’s no money left.

Favorite Author: Kurt Vonnegut, especially everything he wrote after Breakfast of Champions
Favorite book: The Egyptian by Mika Watari. (It’s my favorite novel, I think. It is the only book I’ve read three times. Other favorites are many, but the list would be boring.
I attended Kurt Vonnegut Jrs. class at the University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. At Emory University I was a student in a course taught by James Dickey and later I enjoyed learning from Pat Conroy, my famous cousin at two workshops. Most of the other writers’ workshops were not as illuminating as they might have been.
Im married to my beautiful and brilliant Annie. She loves dogs. She’s a little on the nutsy side but I love her and she loves me so it’s a small price to pay for the kind of love we have.
I have kids from previous marriages. They are grown and surviving.
I was in Vietnam when the war was being fought. It taught me one of life’s important lessons. If someone in power can’t benefit, then no wars need fighting. The other life lesson is what Kennel Ration dogfood taught me about television, but that’s for another time.

She was a bookworm – the ideal temperament for a desk job like hers. Any moment she wasn’t busy, she had books on her desktop, so it would always look as though she was engrossed in some office task but her head was deeply buried in literature. Author Bio:
Dr. Meadows is an Honors graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine and studied at Duke University. He later held faculty positions at both institutions. He was recognized internationally for his work in cancer research, receiving both grants and awards; he authored numerous scientific articles. He was designated a Clinical Investigator of the National Cancer Institute.

His recovery from addiction to drugs and alcohol began May 7, 1997. Since then, he has counseled a large number of addicts and alcoholics striving to get clean and sober. His observations and study over the last 20+ years form the basis for A SPIRITUAL PATHWAY TO RECOVERY FROM ADDICTION, A PHYSICIAN’S JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY.

“I woke up on my 49th birthday and realized that I was addicted to drugs and alcohol and that my life was spinning wildly out of control. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t stop. Some days I wanted passionately to quit and some days I just didn’t care. I had reached a point where I could no longer use and live. It was either quit or die, and then something happened. I found recovery.”

He and his wife live on a hobby farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.
