My Dawn Is Only Five Hours Away by Dion Anja

About My Dawn Is Only Five Hours Away by Dion Anja

Dion Anja’s first poetry collection explores the various shades of life from a young-adult woman’s point of view such as love, death, nature, anger, and fairies. Fueled by her imagination and surroundings, Anja aims to resonate with your heart and soul because she believes poetry is a shared feeling regardless of place and time. All of the poems have been written in the chaotic atmosphere of the pandemic and this ephemeral state of existence urged Dion to self-publish.

A Life for a Life by Kelsey Ruud

About A Life for a Life by Kelsey Ruud

Being a police officer can be dangerous. Being a witch police officer is downright scary sometimes. Luckily Jess has been a member of Witch Inspectors to Serve and Protect, a.k.a. WISP, for several years now so she knows what she’s doing. Or so she hopes.

For their first case together, Jess and her new partner, Charlie, are assigned a real doozy. Bodies are turning up that are literally just skin and bones, all their fat gone as if it was sucked out of them. Jess suspects someone is stealing life forces, but the how is a mystery. There has also been a spree of witches going crazy due to unnatural magic in the air. Stealing life is about as unnatural as it gets so Jess is sure there must be a connection. Fortunately, her new partner is a touch sensitive and she’s picking up all kinds of clues with her magic. Jess’s own ability to see auras only tells her that there’s a connection, as if the condition of the corpses wasn’t clue enough.

Together they need to solve these murders before the whole city erupts in chaos as unnaturally dark magic continues to spread through Seattle.

Surviving Crazy By Frank Crimi

About Surviving Crazy By Frank Crimi

A bizarre and hilarious look at surviving societal collapse…

When Armageddon hits you can’t always pick your post-apocalyptic companions, That’s the dilemma facing major-league scout Riley Knight, who finds himself stranded with a collection of borderline crazies at a remote diner when a gigantic solar storm plunges the world into the dark ages.

Cut off from the rest of the electricity-deprived world, the group, whose grip on sanity is tenuous, and whose coping skills leave much to be desired, are forced to rely on each other with laughingly absurd results. As their situation rapidly deteriorates, the distant town of Jericho becomes their only hope for survival. Only the road to Jericho is fraught with peril that only the bravest of them may survive. Worse, Jericho may not be the safe haven they desperately seek. How will they survive this new bizarre and frightening world where everyone’s a nut in a place that’s getting nuttier by the day is anyone’s guess.

I have always enjoyed seeing the pencil traces on the paper and, later, the words appearing on the computer screen as my fingers ran over the keyboard. My mind is not designed to follow only one topic. Therefore, my stories will range from romance, erotica to psychological.

I enjoy a good story with an interesting twist. This is what I want to bring into my books. More often than not, my stories will accentuate certain moments and feelings because I believe that it’s never about the beginning of the journey, sometimes it’s not even about the end of it. It’s always about those moments when things inside get stirred up.

Everything has been written before, but not by me. Therefore, I invite you to read, enjoy and react.

The Bad Company, book 1 –

Colonel Terry Henry Walton takes his warriors into battle, for a price, in this first installment of The Bad Company. He believes in the moral high ground and is happy getting paid for his role in securing it.

Set in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe, Terry, Char, and their people—humans, Werewolves, Weretigers, and Vampires—form the core of the Bad Company’s Direct Action Branch, a private conflict solution enterprise.

Join them as they fight their way across Tissikinnon Four where none of the warring parties were what they expected.

Book 2, Blockade –

When the Bad Company learns of a human colony blockaded by aliens, they take the upgraded War Axe into battle. Once again, nothing is as it seems, but this time, they find a single enemy, evil to its core.

Ending that threat is a cause they are willing to die for. What would you do?

Book 3, Price of Freedom –

*** Price of Freedom is a 2018 Dragon Award Finalist ***

On Earth, parents told stories about the devil to frighten children. But devils exist and from time to time, they find their way here.

Terry and Char, take the Bad Company’s Direct Action Branch into combat to rid a world beyond the borders of a new incursion. All it will cost is the inhabitants’ most advanced technology, a miniaturized power supply that will revolutionize the Etheric Federation.

Nathan wants it, badly enough that he’s made the mission non-negotiable. Terry’s hands are tied as he takes the team into the hot zone.

Join Terry and Char as the War Axe delivers the team to a planet well outside of Federation space where they have to convince the local aliens that the Bad Company is from the government and they’re there to help.

Join the Bad Company as they fight an enemy from their worst nightmares.

The Bad Company
Blockade
Price of Freedom
Liberation

Judge, Jury, & Executioner Boxed Set (Books 5-8): Slave Trade, Fratricide, The Art of Smuggling, Dispute by Craig Martelle

99 cents from Dec. 14-31.

Rivka Anoa has a gift and a galactic mandate.
She’s a lawyer accused of a murder she did commit. She stands ready to accept her fate, even though her victim was a murderer. A second chance appears.Become more than a lawyer. Be one who judges and punishes the guilty.

Get books 5 – 8 in the Space Opera Adventure Legal Thriller together for you in one exciting boxed set!

Slave Trade:

No respect for life. Or the law.

It’s the trade. In sentience. Run by the Corranites, creatures that have always traded in intelligent alien life.

Bought and sold. Nothing more than property.

Rivka is having none of it. With an eye toward taking the entire supply line down, she launches into the greater galaxy. All the way to the heart of the Federation.

It’s bigger than anyone knows. She calls all her friends and finds that she has woefully few. With a snarl and a mandate, she dives head first into the firepit of the Slave Trade.

Magistrate Rivka Anoa is the legal eagle you want on your side. No better friend. No worse enemy.

Fratricide:

Safety takes a back seat to profit. Until it crosses the line.

Shipyard deaths. Labor complaints. Fear. Intimidation. Rivka gets called in to sort things out, investigate the safety issues, mediate the dispute.

What she finds isn’t a negotiation at all. She puts on her Magistrate hat and gets to work sorting out crimes made to look like accidents. Her biggest challenge is finding out who is honest.

Rivka ends up in a court of law, prosecutor and defender, fighting both sides of a new and intricate legal question. When fists and firepower have to give way to intellect and reason, Rivka and her team must rise to the challenge.

The Art of Smuggling:

Why would anyone steal art? Who can you sell it to?

The High Chancellor puts Rivka on the trail of serial art thieves. Dismantle the ring. Recover the art. Put the thieves behind bars, thieves who stay one step ahead.

Insiders? Or maybe outsiders with inside knowledge? No suspects. No clues. Rivka has to use all the resources at her command – her gift, her people, her ship, and tools that no one else has access to. Rivka has to chase the criminals across the galaxy to exotic planets with their own challenges when it comes to solving the crime. The big question is can Rivka find the criminals before they disappear forever? It’s not rocket science.

It’s a whole new challenge; it’s the art of smuggling.

Dispute:

Two races. One war. Perpetual hatred. And the Magistrate crash lands right in the middle of it.

Rivka and her crew take a much-deserved vacation, but find themselves on a jungle planet, cut off from the rest of the galaxy. Part by design, but mostly not. Isn’t that what a good vacation is supposed to be, disconnected from the rigors of everyday life? Until no one can hear your calls for help.

The team has to resolve Yindle and Yangor’s dispute before they can find a way home. A vacation turned into a case morphed into a fight for survival.

The crew meets new challenges head on because they have no choice. Rivka’s time off isn’t what anyone expected, not even the Magistrate. In Red’s immortal words, “Your vacations suck.”

Magistrate Rivka Anoa is the legal eagle you want on your side. No better friend. No worse enemy.

Get it today.

Judge, Jury, & Executioner is a stand-alone series in the Kurtherian Gambit Universe. No previous books need to be read. Just lock in your seat-belt, grab your favorite drink and be ready for your socks to be blown off.

Author Bio:
Nat finds talking about herself in the third person extremely weird.
She is completely addicted to reading, and has been known to hide in a cupboard to finish that last chapter in peace…

Enough weirdness! Hello!!

I’m not the typical author, in that becoming one was a complete accident.
(Really!)

I read like I breathe, whatever genre is in my Kindle is good with me! As a child with little access to new reading material I had the most eclectic beginners library, made from thirty-third-hand books, school throwaways, and the blessed book tokens of birthdays and Christmases.

As a teen with my own library card, well…the universe becomes your oyster, right?
I went wherever the author took me. To Mordor, and then to the farthest reaches of space and time. I solved mysteries with Enid Blyton’s children, explored Verne’s hidden worlds. I lived life through a horse’s eyes, sailed the seas in search of the white whale, fell in love with a sultan’s wife as she wove tales into the dawn to save her life.

I could go on. Nothing is as rich as the imagination of others.

After a lifetime of avoiding reality by hiding in whatever text I could find, I was given a Kindle as a gift. I read around a bit, then stumbled across Michael Anderle’s Kurtherian Gambit series.

Nobody who picks up the first book in that series does so knowing how much it will impact them. I found not only the singular best story I’ve ever read, but the beginning of a life changing journey that led me to a whole community, and so many people I can’t imagine living without.

Now it’s my turn to craft the narrative, something I take SO seriously. Not just as an author, but as a reader. It is my greatest wish that YOU as readers enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy putting them together, and that over the coming years my author page grows into a place where anyone can find an escape from reality.

The Perfect Escape by A.L. Long

The Perfect Escape by A.L. Long

Some would say that revenge is nothing more than returning the favor, but it is much more than that for me.

Reyna McCall may have been my only leverage against the man who took everything from me, but now she is much more than that.

The game has changed, so have the players, but not even that will stop me from getting her back.

My rules, my way. There is only room for one winner.

A.L. Long brings another captivating dark romance with The Perfect Escape which is Book Two in the Sinful Pleasures Series. ( It is recommended to read Book One of the Sinful Pleasures Series, The Perfect Wife)

Some would call me a little naughty, but I see myself as a writer of spicy thoughts. Being a romance writer is something that I never imagined I would be doing. There is nothing more rewarding than to put your thoughts down in words and share them. I began writing seven years ago and have enjoyed every minute. When I first started writing, I wasn’t sure what I would write. It didn’t take me long to realize that romance would be my niche. I believe that every life deserves a little bit of romance; a little spice doesn’t hurt either. When I am not writing, I enjoy the company of good friends and relaxing with a delicious glass of red wine.

The Upstream Model: Hidden Secrets to Building a Massive Referral Business While Crushing Big Tech Competitors by Justin Stoddart

The Upstream Model: Hidden Secrets to Building a Massive Referral Business While Crushing Big Tech Competitors by Justin Stoddart

Your future as a well-paid professional within a service-based industry is in serious jeopardy. Whether it be real estate, mortgage, insurance, wealth
management, or similar, it is time to pay attention to what is happening. Little by little, your customers are warming up to the easy, safe, convenient and non-committal benefits of your complete or partial replacement by ever-advancing technology offerings.

An unwillingness or inability to grow and adapt accordingly will lead to one of the following undesirable outcomes:
1. You own an unprofitable business that pays you subsistence wages to work around the clock while you wear out your health and your relationships.
2. You become a lower-paid functionary/sales and service representative of one of these disruptive technology companies.
3. You are forced out of your industry altogether.

While traditional cold-market and warm-market methods are failing us, I introduce to you a new, or alternative method, The Upstream Model, which allows you to leverage the pros of cold-market (scalability) with the pros of warm-market (relationships).

The Upstream Model allows you to create endless streams of warm referrals. Rather than focusing on large databases of the wrong people to eek out a few sales or referrals a year, this model allows you to get more business from fewer relationships by focusing your value proposition on professionals in different industries that know that a transaction is coming in your industry before these future customers talk to anyone in your industry.

Justin was raised by entrepreneurial parents and as a result, was involved in business conversations as early as age five. This opened the door to business ventures and opportunities that funded many of his youth activities and his college education.

In addition to his early entrepreneurial spirit, Justin cultivated an ability to lead and inspire others through his work ethic and motivational words as a high school state champion and collegiate athlete. Although he enjoyed playing on some great teams, some of his greatest growth came from the adversity of a broken leg, a broken shoulder blade and his family relocating to a new city midway through his Junior year in high school. Despite not being the biggest nor the most talented player on his teams, after every season in football, basketball and track, Justin’s coaches and teammates would award him the ‘Most Inspirational’ player award. He realized early on that inspiring and growing people was a gift that he wanted to pursue.

The Chocolate Prophecy

About The Chocolate Prophecy

Enter the life of Jek – a humble lighthouse steward scratching out a living on the southern coast of Jast-Madiir. Along with his wife (whose name is Aaliyah… or was it Audrey?), Jek must daily meet the expectations of an iron-fisted dictatorship, a global dragon-Inquisition, and a clerical order of flying jellyfish-like creatures churning out new surveys at a dizzying pace. All-in-all, a fairly predictable tedium. But when any little demerit on his next inspection could cost him his life, it can be hard sometimes to keep from stressing out…

Of course, if Jek knew half the things at play just beyond his sleepy shores, he would be very stressed indeed. Neighboring Tophthaera is reeling under the Twin Queens’ civil war. To the north, insurrection threatens to claim the island of Maenea for the cause of “Free-Dome” – a very strange and unsettling new ideology. Even the stable nations must decide how to deal with the recent, accidental discovery of magic. And all the while, the threat of Onyxadon’s inevitable return clouds every counsel. Only the strength and wisdom of the Grand Inquisitor would seem adequate to avail against these many calamities. But he has been dormant for seventy-five years now…

Jek is, at best, dimly aware of such things… and perhaps better suited than anyone to be an ineffectual bystander anyway. But those luxuries are burst quite suddenly when he meets a crotchety old sailor man, only to be swept into a hair-brained Noble Quest to find the Knights of the Indigo Lodge, expose a secret Doom Fleet, and unravel the dreaded mystery of Proconsul Zedulon’s infamous “Chocolate Prophecy.”

E.L. Ward is the celebrated author of one title, including The Chocolate Prophecy. New York Times Bestseller, the Pulitzer Prize, the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, a Tony, Grammy, and Oscar, the Nobel Peace Prize, Best in Show, Blue Ribbon, Student of the Month, and World’s Best Dad are all among the accolades he wouldn’t mind achieving one day. He has had his picture in the newspaper once.

Ward lives in Michigan, basically.

Prior to his vaunted career as a starving artist, Ward distinguished himself in education, graduating 13th in his class, and receiving cute little awards for Media Production and Industrial Technology at one point. He went on to attain a phony-baloney Bachelor of Art in Communications, Film and Video Concentration, from Grand Valley State University. Their film school actually requires secondary enrollment, so to attain such a degree was way, way harder than it even sounds, which is worth noting.

Even after such wuthering heights, there was still nowhere for a man like Ward to go but up. He spent literally hours battling to claim a coveted position in a temp agency, whence he returned to the gilded vocation of box-making. The company begged him to stay on full-time after extending his tenure as a temp far beyond the normal bounds, and he has since ‘excelled’ in that field for more years than he cares to recall.

Present day. Ward has sacrificed all the glitz and glamour of the packaging world, heroically denying its many pleasures to seek the humble station of a famous author. Or, at least, he would very much like to do that.

Bestselling author P.C. Zick describes herself as a storyteller no matter what she writes. And she writes in a variety of genres, including romance, contemporary fiction, and creative nonfiction. She’s won various awards for her essays, columns, editorials, articles, and novels.

The three novels in her Florida Fiction Series contain stories of Florida and its people and environment, which she credits as giving her a rich base for her storytelling. She says, “Florida’s quirky and abundant wildlife–both human and animal–supply my fiction with tales almost too weird to be believable.”

P.C. writes both sweet and steamy romances. The sweet contemporary romances in her Smoky Mountain Romances, are set in southwest North Carolina. Another sweet romance series, Rivals in Love, contains seven stories about finding and keeping love alive. The novels follow the Crandall family of Chicago as the siblings find love despite their focus on successful careers.

Her steamy romances go from Florida to Long Island. The Behind the Love series, set in a small fictional town in Florida, feature a community of people who form bonds as they learn to overcome the challenges of their youth. Her Montauk Romances are set in and around Long Island and feature simple, yet sophisticated beach houses designed with romance in mind. The two books in this set are filled with steamy scenes as love grows and thrives.

Zick offers a variety of nonfiction books, which include a book on vegetable gardening, a compilation of her essays and short stories from her decades-long career as a writer, and a primer for writers on taking an idea and turning it into a published book. She has also published and annotated the journal of her great-grandfather based on his experiences as a Union soldier during the Civil War.

Her novels contain elements of romance with strong female characters, handsome heroes, and descriptive settings. And all of her works express her philosophy of living lightly upon this earth with love, laughter, and passion.

She and her husband split their time between Tallahassee, Florida, and the Smoky Mountains where they enjoy gardening, kayaking, and hiking.

Not Mentioning Any Names

About Not Mentioning Any Names

There is a wide deep gap between the experts who theorise and the amateurs who practise.
Life with children is composed of confrontations, truces and intermittent battles. Suitable textbooks on survival of child raising might well include guerrilla warfare, unarmed combat and of course, communications – handy for negotiating terms for truces, compromises, moratoriums, rescues of badly wounded psyches, egos and compensation payments when in the wrong (which is always).
One of the interesting side effects completely ignored by experts is how raising children reduces mothers to tears, tea and aspirin, hysterics, sherry, cigarettes, blunt instruments, bullying and blackmail.
So welcome to the club.

The Silk Road: Revisited

About The Silk Road: Revisited

The Silk Road Revisited is an enticing new book that invites the reader to take an exceptional cultural and historical journey throughout Europe, Persia, Central Asia and China along one of the world’s oldest trading routes.
For more than two millennia the Silk Road developed a vital set of trading arteries between East and West. At its height, the route stretched from Venice in Europe to Xi’an in Northern China. Covering more than 8,000 kilometres, it spanned a wealth of cultures and lands, hosting many of history’s great legends and stories. This vast commercial and cultural relay between countries, peoples and religions influenced and changed the world and its effects are still being felt today. This book celebrates and cherishes a part of the world that once held more power thorough trade than any single empire could hope and which once again, Phoenix-like, is rising from the ashes with a reborn flourish.

This is no ordinary book on history – it is a personal view of the Silk Road’s fascinating history that has made each country that once lined its route what it is today. Charting a course from West to East, the book deviates from the traditional East to West depiction of the Silk Road and provides new perspectives. The engaging text interweaves the history and legends of this remarkable, and often forgotten, part of our world history. It is complemented by captivating photography as the reader travels from charming and powerful Venice to the homeland of the Yellow Dragon, China, from snow-capped mountains of Kyrgyzstan to the vast steppes of Kazakhstan and from the fearless Turkic tribes to the noble Persian empires. In each chapter the reader also encounters the diverse peoples, delicious cuisine and delightful landscapes through the both the vibrant photography and rich historical writing.

An Oxford University graduate, recently back from five years living in Moscow, Nick spends much of his spare time exploring Central Asia, having travelled to all the countries on numerous occasions, on the look-out for new experiences and people to meet. His new book, The Silk Road Revisited, seeks to capture the powerful influence that the history of the Silk Road has left on the countries as you find them today. It follows the success of Friendly Steppes: A Silk Road Journey, that recalls his first encounters as a traveller of the Silk Road from East to West.
Of his second book on the region, Nick says:
"It's a book I have been writing for almost 15 years, ever since I made my own journey along the Silk Road. I wanted to capture just some of the fascinating history and cultural magic that makes the countries along the Silk Road today such marvellous places to visit and full of wonderful people to meet. The history of the Silk Road is complex, but this book hopes to unravel that a bit and complement it with stunning photography to really bring the words to life and open this part of world history that is so often dismissed and forgotten."

You – The Unsung Hero by G S Madhav Rao, Sandeep Srivatstava, Saloni Srivastava

About You – The Unsung Hero by G S Madhav Rao, Sandeep Srivatstava, Saloni Srivastava

The most certain lesson from the 200 years of the current format of school education system is that parenting matters; quality of parenting is the most important determinant of scholastic success of children.
No child succeeds in school years without loving, consistent, and long years of support from at least one adult; rarely that support is beyond parents, the occasional great teachers only prove the rule of ‘parents as unsung heroes’ of school education.
The secret of good parenting is … unknown
More pertinently, and happily, a wide variety of parental support have proved to be equally successful in education of children. There is no particular parental context, such as parenting style, endowments, and efforts, or educational attainments of parents, which have proved to work better. All parents can equally succeed in quality education of their children, IF they are intent on it.
The secret of success in school reforms is … now known
Across the world, governments and school administrators have tried every trick in the book to reform school education, except for enabling parents to effectively make the difference they must. Parents are not to be trusted with the education of their children! And we, parents, don’t seem to mind the ‘unparenting’ being forced upon us.
School education edges out the most well-educated parents also from the school education years of their children. Worse, our children are expected to be no better, wherever and however best they are educated; they won’t be able to school their children! School education is such that it always undoes itself, we ‘forget everything we study at school’, comprehensively and assuredly!
The online education during the pandemic has exposed it all – classroom teaching has little to cheer anyone, including teachers! With few exceptions, the record of student’s achievement is underwhelming, and creating anxiety and stress even among five-year olds!
This isn’t another parenting book
We don’t need another book on (better, effective) parenting. To be true, there cannot be an universal prescription of ‘tips/advice on effective parenting’, howsoever exhaustive and imaginative. As mentioned earlier, the cutting edge of the impact of parenting is in its uniqueness, every family is a complex of its own.

Maybe, all the current literature on parenting has only hurt the cause of ‘same-quality’ parental context for every child. The attempt to homogenise parenting style and substance with ‘best practices’ is an antithesis of the uniqueness of every family, ‘every child’s peerless destiny’.
This book is about a new educational complex
The book is the shortest possible text on the opportunities and imperatives of new-age education of every child. This book is the all-comprehensive strategy book on Guarantee Of Overall Development (GOOD) of every child, irrespective of the socio-economic background of children.
The book redesigns education of children with families at the centre of it all. Every family will be an educational institution for their children, unhooked from all dependencies on school.
The book inimitably bisects a family’s decision about schooling, unschooling, or home-schooling children from the imperative to secure world-class quality of educational experiences and development of children. Quality guaranteed to the last family and child, with or without school!
What to expect from the book?
How every parent matters
What never to expect from schools (unless schools transform)
How to help your child’s school transform
What is learning, memory, role of language including math
Understanding and ensuring quality education in each academic subject, and overall development
Investing in new-age career building, and innovative financing
Be empowered to turn home-schooling into the world’s best educational development (the book is co-authored by parents who have redefined home-schooling).
This is the one!

Foundations of Subtraction (Mathematics as a Language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

About Foundations of Subtraction (Mathematics as a Language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

This book is just a book away from creating history – popular genre books for each arithmetical operation. The ‘Foundations of addition’ and Foundations of multiplication’ are already published. The ‘Foundations of division’ is the next.
This book, ‘Foundations of subtraction’, presents a peerless 300-page ‘story’ of discovering the most varied arithmetical operation. However, it must be read after duly investing time and attention in the addition and multiplication books.
Here are a couple of excerpts from the book:
Lesson: Knowing how to learn subtraction
School math curricula place teaching of subtraction just after the teaching of addition. It follows the belief that subtraction is the opposite of addition. While it is true that there are ‘opposite’ features between addition and subtraction (we discussed them in an earlier Learning Outcome), the two can only be learnt in quite different ways. For example, subtraction is varied and far more nuanced. There are significant dissimilarities between addition and subtraction beyond what may be classified as ‘opposites.’
Subtraction may not be the second arithmetical operation to be taught. The skills and support required for teaching and learning subtraction are significantly different. A majority of teachers also lack the nuanced understanding needed to teach subtraction.
Lesson: Preparing children to learn subtraction
Subtraction is intuitive and just about as natural as addition. However, addition is fairly simple to observe and state (for example, things being added are all in distinct quantities).
Subtraction is identified in more varied situations. It is more nuanced and needs better comprehension of situations to be identified and mathematically expressed as subtraction. As already mentioned, there is more planning and preparation needed to teach and learn subtraction. It may be the most complex of the four operations, as far as visualization is concerned.
It would be easier for children to connect with the varied situations which are mathematically expressed as subtraction if the following aspects are taken care of in the teaching of subtraction:
First, appreciating the limitations of counting when it comes to subtraction.
In situations involving addition, counting is always a simple direct alternative – counting is tiring, time-consuming, etc. but counting is still an option as a real alternative to situations involving addition to know the sum of given quantities/numbers.
It is hard for children to realise that counting and subtraction have a more complex relationship than the relationship between addition and counting. It is not possible to get the difference in quantities by counting the quantities. For example, we cannot distinguish the number of books in two stacks of books by counting the books in both the stacks! We will have to use subtraction in such situations.
Second, physical segregation of quantities in subtraction situations is unlike how it is in addition:
A. The quantities in subtraction situations may or may not be segregated to start with. For example, if there are 12 crayons and you take 3 out of it to colour, the 3 crayons taken away are not distinct (they are part of the 12 crayons). In addition, the quantities to be added, the addends, are all distinctively identifiable, well segregated. If we add 3 chairs and 4 chairs, the 3 chairs and the 4 chairs are always distinctly visible.
This shift from the certain need for segregation of quantities to be added to accepting unsegregated quantities in subtraction is quite a new learning experience.
B. Unlike addition, subtraction makes two quantities out of one – the initial quantity is split into two – what is taken away and what is left. In addition, two quantities become one, the sum.
Interestingly, all these above are not valid for all subtraction situations.
The book is a must read for everyone. Math needs a rebooting for us all, and this is one such book.

Foundations of Multiplication (Mathematics as a language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

About Foundations of Multiplication (Mathematics as a language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

This book is the second of the series of four books on ‘Foundations of operations’, the first was ‘Foundations of addition’. It is part of the larger, revolutionary ‘mathematics as a language’ series. It is also path breaking for another reason – it is what we call ‘family edition’ of curricular math books – books meant for parents, for home.
A book on multiplication following addition is in itself a significant shift from the conventional and popular order of studying subtraction after being introduced to addition. Subtraction is the most complex of the four operations – needs more logical and linguistic maturity to appreciate and understand.
On the other hand, multiplication has a unique distinction among the four operations – it is the first, and the simplest derived mathematical operation. Thus, the significance of learning and mastering multiplication is far greater. It leads to quicker maturity of mathematical thinking and introduces the idea of relationship among operations.
The book offers unique insights into the nature of multipliers, multiplicands, and products (and factors too). In turn, the organic connection between math, multiplication and everyday living and work is very evident and hardwired in the brain.
No less importantly, the book is a text, nearly 250 pages, on logical thinking and reasoning entirely set in everyday life. In a way, the knowledge of multiplication is secondary. Every sentence of the book leads to another on the back of logic and reasoning. The book may be the most contextual text on logical development.
Excerpts from the book –
“It may just be added that multiplication in school math is introduced and reduced to a version of a nameless method, to find the product of two given numerals. As a result, ‘3 x 4’ and ‘3 x 2 x 2’, for instance, are exactly the same expressions, ‘equal to 12’. Not only is this meaning of the two expressions, being reduced to just 12, is highly myopic, it robs us of the diverse meanings and applications of multiplication.
To cite another example, the profound significance of a four-numbered multiplication expression, such as ‘1 x 2 x 3 x 4’, isn’t even obliquely referred to in school math books; not to talk of the incongruity of the expressions ‘1 x 2 x 3 x 4’ and ‘4 x 3 x 2 x 1’, and the need to defend the same.”
Another revolutionary feature of the foundation series books is that there is no math-textbook-like exercise. The book is so rooted in real-world situations and events that each family can create hundreds of their own exercises (and need not look for correct answers). Parents don’t need any written exercise – our daily life and work is full of math situations and solutions.
1 + 1 is 11
Indeed, the only feasible and fail-safe way to enable parents to ensure quality education of their children is to empower every parent in their children’s math education. ‘Mathematics as a language’ is just that math, no parents will be left behind!
Fortunately, there is more to it – math education (in schools) will not transform unless parents make a more critical contribution and play the primary role. Schools have a secondary role in rewriting math education just as they have a secondary role in ensuring high literary competence in the language of academics, and competitive levels in art, music, theatre, sports, etc.
Math–empowered parent is the (human) developmental salvation.
Some other highlights of the book
Due details on four interpretations of multiplication – Multiple addition of the same number, Expressing multi-dimensionality, Scaling/stretching, Being the operation to express the parts of a number – factors
Most comprehensive visualisation of every aspect of multiplication
The Long Multiplication method is logically discovered – a first for a curricular math book
The only math learning resource for young adults and professionals across the spectrum to start building the foundations for linear algebra (and Big data).

Foundations of Addition (Mathematics as a language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

About Foundations of Addition (Mathematics as a language) by Sandeep Srivatstava

This book is for parents. A first of its kind math textbook.
The mission is that hereafter, EVERY CHILD will succeed in math; taught by their parents. School math education is not good enough, and it ain’t getting any better anytime soon. Math education was never more important and math is a big part of every technology now. It’s an imperative of the emerging knowledge society that every child succeeds in school math.
Can parents be the best teachers? Yes, with special books written for them. This book is 100% unlike the math textbooks – rooted in everyday life, with simple logic, and with no worksheets. The book pioneers ‘mathematics as a language’ – the math for the age of artificial intelligence; as simple as learning the mother tongue.
You would be reading the books much like the books of fiction; you won’t need pen and paper while reading the books. Children cannot transact these books on their own, it has little in common with school math textbooks, teaching, and assessments.
This book is the first of a series of K – 12 math textbooks; support for the entire curriculum is ensured. K – 8 is a universal curriculum, equally valuable to all national math curricula.
Excelling in ‘school-level math’ is every child’s birth-right!
Ever heard of kids struggling with learning their mother tongue? It should have been no different for learning math; math is also a language. Math is a way to think real-life, and to imagine situations, using a much smaller set of symbols, and rules. Consequently, and it is our belief that it is not natural for any child to be a ‘slow learner’ in math!
Each one of us can excel in thinking mathematically, and handhold our children, irrespective of our educational background. Mathematics is so rooted in real life that every one of us can and should know all of the foundational mathematics, like the back of our hands.
While the everyday use of quantities (money, weight, time, spaces, etc.) involves the correct application of the most fundamental principles of mathematics, school mathematics is just the opposite – all abstract, methods over principles, no freedom/choices in thinking, and no logic whatsoever. School education kills the ‘genetic’ mathematical thinking we are born with, and live everyday routines with.
For example, school mathematics assertively teaches ‘7 + 3 = 10’, but in scientific and everyday living ‘7 + 3 = 10’ is a low-chance truth! It is true only in ‘unreal’ mathematics!
Yes, mathematics is easy, in fact easier than learning languages! Mathematics has just 10 digits (≡ 26 alphabets of English) and just a few tens of basic arithmetic rules (≡ grammar rules of English). In mathematics there are no pronunciation issues, no ‘regional’/local variations, and no difference between ‘spoken and written’ numerals (the words of math).
To be true, it’s the easiest domain of knowledge to master!
Expectedly, if we can only ensure introduction and interaction with math in its true nature, it will be sparse to be struggling in math, to be fearful of math.
This math textbook marks an epochal change in the nature and thus, the meaning of math in our lives; most befitting the role math is playing in the age of ever-growing artificial intelligence.
Naturally, and most significantly, learning ‘mathematics as a language’ will make every one of us productive, and a contributor, to intelligent living and the digital economy. By a stretch of imagination, it should arguably de-risk humanity of the maleficent impact of artificial intelligence.
Further, this book is written in an uncommon genre for math – ‘popular genre’ – written for families, rather than teachers. Of course, a book written to assuredly empower parents and children to learn by themselves is an unmitigated bliss for teachers, school leaders, and policy makers.
Please read the preview of the book, to get a glimpse of the promise of the world’s only parent’s math textbooks.
Best regards,
Sandeep

Foundations of Mathematical Thinking by Sandeep Srivatstava

About Foundations of Mathematical Thinking by Sandeep Srivatstava

This book is the first of six Kindergarten books focused on math education. The Kindergarten series is a part of the K – 12 ‘Mathematics as a language’ books – a new mathematics book genre.
These books are the world’s first ‘Family edition’ curricular books. They are meant to empower parents to ensure the best quality education for their children, with or without schools. Parents should use the books for the most ‘whole-child’ development context at home. Ideally, an hour together with children, guided by the books’ contents, will ensure the family’s ‘happy hour’ of the day. Math education would be a secondary outcome!
The pre-primary years shouldn’t be grouped into ‘subjects.’ The books aren’t math books; the development of language, observational skills, drawing, craft, awareness of things around, better living, etc. integrated into the books.
School textbooks and teaching hurt children’s development, and parents have no tailored curricular resources to achieve children’s right educational development. The books are innovative resources for the most educationally efficient years of human development – childhood, unique to humans. It presents the most rapid and broad growth avenues and opportunities. Developmental deficiencies in these years can be recovered later, but at a far greater time, effort, attention, resources, and friction.
The books may also be used as a resource in tutors’ hands (with love for children as the only qualification). The books are rooted in everyday living and are conversational; parents can easily collaborate with tutors for the most impactful education.
The books have ‘nothing to teach.’ The content is the navigational guide to support children with contexts, resources, experiences, conversations, and goals to ‘make sense of things.’ It nurtures observation, an extension of knowledge, application/generalisation, estimation, and joy of collaborative/social learning.
Four other books of the series on the ‘Foundations of Arithmetical operations’ – ‘Foundations of addition,’ ‘Foundations of multiplication,’ ‘Foundations of subtraction,’ and ‘Foundations of division’ are already published. They demystify the operations and lay the foundations for ‘love with math, and unparallel insights into the new economy/society.’
Children around the Kindergarten years have to follow these six books in the series. No distinction is possible and meaningful in the series to be relevant to the different KG years – I and II, as in the formal education system.
Math education in the pre-primary years may be the poorest in the formal education of math. For eg., the numbers are introduced too early, and math is not rooted in everyday things, situations, and conversations.
In these years, parent-led education works magic, and the books have dramatically simplified the demands on parents.
Parent-led education (within or without schools) will also achieve much greater outcomes and a developmental pathway unique for the children and the family.
Excerpt from the book –
Mathematics must be taught and introduced as another language, much like the languages well known to children at their age in Kindergarten – mother tongue, a second language for children in some countries, art/music/dance/play.
Indeed, music/sound is every child’s first language (music is pleasant/melodic sound, and children react to such sounds). Play/gestures/facial expressions are the second ones. Drawing is the third. And dance is the fourth.
Our Kindergarten mathematics heavily draws on other languages. There is little difference in math and other languages in KG – math is drawn from everyday living; there is no abstraction.
Thus, every ‘lesson,’ called Learning Outcome, has most of the following components:
• Exploring a range of everyday things and situations
• Drawing
• Craft
• Conversations
• (Specific) Discussions
• (Mathematical) Story
• (Specific) Observations
• Vocabulary building

Author Bio:
Sandeep is the first Indian and among the pioneering few in the world to pen a book – ‘Embracing the Net’ (by Financial Times, UK)- about the Internet before the first dotcom burst in 2000. Subsequently, in 2001, he wrote the world’s first book on e-governance – ‘Government@Net’ (by Sage, India). In 2002, he proposed ‘innovation as strategy’ in his third book, ‘The Bright Stuff’ (by Prentice Hall, USA).

After his success in the Information Technology sector, he turned to the education sector. In the two decades since, he has worked with several Indian schools across the globe. He dreams of reforming the education system, empowering parents to guarantee the overall development of every child, and helping create a world where every individual is truly educated!

A major step towards realising the dream has been to author over 100 books on maths, science, social sciences, school leadership, teacher training, and parent engagement. The math books have an added distinction – they are written in ‘popular genre’. To put things into perspective, Goodreads (www.goodreads.com) names just 397 “popular genre” math books, compared to over 1,00,000 names in the “popular science” genre. School math textbooks are grossly disappointing.

The most notable, however, has been the acceptance and presentation of six of his papers on quality of education in the 21st century at the 18th and 19th UNESCO–APEID International Conference in Bangkok.

Having homeschooled his only daughter and tutored her all through her board exams, the journey gave him unique insights into the challenges and demands of parenting and education in today’s day and age. As also the urge to write for all children of the world. However, all the textbooks are written for the family, not just children, because children need conversations to internalise things around them.

He received education at some of the most well-known institutes in India and abroad. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, M.Tech from IIT Delhi, and MBA from INSEAD, France. Mathematics as a Language for Grade X (CBSE syllabus) – Vol II by Sandeep Srivatstava

About Mathematics as a Language for Grade X (CBSE syllabus) – Vol II by Sandeep Srivatstava

Math is the easiest, yet the most powerful ‘subject’ to enhance your thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills. And strong logical ability increases confidence.
A request: Even if you have come to just look for CBSE/ICSE/IGCSE Grade X Public Exam Prep resources for math, please read this 700-word essay on why excelling in mathematics is an imperative.
The unkindest cut of all
That conceptual clarity and marks don’t really walk hand in hand; rote and marks are better friends. Formal math education has violated the fundamental principles of ‘how we learn’ and robbed math of its basic character – strong logic.
The consequences have been devastating for humanity –
1. Overwhelming majority of girl students are left behind in math in elementary school – this is against nature
2. Overwhelming majority of boy students also leave math behind when selecting undergraduate options – reducing career options
3. Overwhelming majority of adults (teachers and parents) also suffer from math phobia – creating undue stress
To top it all,
1. Math is the language of the fast emerging Artificially Intelligent world – drastically chopping off career options for the vast majority of young adults
2. Math is the language of science – it’s being projected that by 2050s math will be to biology more than what it’s to physics for a few centuries – poor math hurts sci-tech careers too
3. Math is the architectural blueprint of research – even a ‘research mindset’ requires logic/reasoning/problem solving approach; such a mindset is always highly valued
The silver lining
Just as Artificial Intelligence – modelled using math – is getting to touch ourselves in an ever widening and penetrating way, we have readied all that’s needed to revolutionise math education!
It’s unnatural for a (human) child to be a ‘struggler’ in math
There is more to it – it’s impossible to create a ‘tough exam paper’ in math IF taught well! IF we really learn to read, think, write, see, act, and imagine in the language we call mathematics, EVERY one of us will excel in math!
How do we learn?
We still don’t know a lot about how we learn, but we know –
Learning ∝ Engagement;
Engagement ∝ Relationship
Indeed, relationship with math is important to excel in math!
Grade X math exam Prep
This is practically your last year of school education to close the foundational gaps in math – most important being ‘building a relationship with math’ – even if you pursue math in Grade XI.
‘Mathematics as a Language’ Grade X, Volume I, II, III, IV, V, VI
The theory part of the books is like no other:
1. The 15 chapters have been split into 84 concepts (Learning Outcomes) – uniquely listing what you exactly need to know in the book
2. Each concept revises ‘what you must know’ – the much-needed prior knowledge – to assuredly learn that concept
3. Each concept has ‘Getting started’ that strongly connects the concept to everyday living – making it all easy to see/feel
4. Each concept has in-depth mathematical exploration and step by step explanation of two examples followed by ‘made for exam’ exercise question made of CBSE Grade X exam questions.
5. It has the power to dramatically improve you reasoning, logic, and problems solving skills, and prepare you to excel in Grade XI
Even the exercise/workbook part of the book is unique for the following reasons:
1. All the questions – past several year’s board exam questions, NCERT book and Exemplar questions are categorised in 84 concepts, not just 15 chapters
2. Thus, the most specific and actionable diagnostic is ensured to maximise your marks in the exam with just the right time and effort.
3. Every solution to CBSE past year’s questions starts with ‘Logic’ – states what the question is about (key to quickly get to the correct answer)
Because there are 2000+ A-4 pages in the Grade X book (and workbook), we had to split the book into six volumes.
Just commit to work hard again, you will be proud!

About Prep X Math – Vol I by Sandeep Srivatstava

Math is the easiest, yet the most powerful ‘subject’ to enhance your thinking, reasoning and problem-solving skills. And strong logical ability increases confidence.
This is a special book for securing 100% in CBSE X board exams, 2021, as per the revised CBSE syllabus till October 12th, 2020.
It is the ONLY BOOK of past papers and solution based on learning Outcomes and EACH QUESTION HAS A LOGIC AND SOLUTION. This makes the book the ONLY 100% SELF-LEARNING math book for X.
This book does not necessarily require the use of any textbook for concepts because the concepts are duly presented through LOGIC in every question that is answered in the book.
An advantage in Kindle e-books is that you can read nearly the first 40 pages of the book to experience the uniqueness of the book. And you will realise there is no other book like this one. Go ahead and look into the free-access pages of the book.

This book has 7 chapters of the 15 chapters and the Volume II, which will be published next month will have the rest of the chapters.

This year we have not published the books with theory for all the chapters.
This is the exercise/workbook part of the X math book and is unique for the following reasons:
1. All the questions – past several year’s board exam questions, NCERT book and Exemplar questions are categorised in 84 concepts, not just 15 chapters
2. Thus, the most specific and actionable diagnostic is ensured to maximise your marks in the exam with just the right time and effort.
