When my partner, Areti, got pregnant with our first child and we saw that everything was fine about the pregnancy, the first signs of anxiety about the imminent situation began to appear.

What happens now?
What is our life going to be like after the baby?
Will we have time to do anything?
Will we sleep?
WILL WE HAVE SEX?
Will we be good with each other?
Will we make it?
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

I am sure that if you are expecting a baby or you already have a baby, the above seven questions have been on your mind and have troubled you a lot.

To all these, unfortunately, your friends and family come to answer, many times without anyone asking them. The main nonsenses you hear or will hear are the following.

“Oh, you will see now what are you up to, we haven’t slept for 487 thousand years. You will chase them all day when they’ll start walking; You cannot imagine what you have to deal with, with the little ones”.
(Friends of mine, who I wanted to punch right in the nose when they told me all that, while I already had a HUGE anxiety about what would happen.)

“Well, of course we will tell you what to do with the little one, so many children we grew up, didn’t you grow up well?”
(Parents and relatives mainly, let us judge if you raised us well, that we were beaten every five steps because we had not done six.)

A piece of advice from me for all this and listen to me well:

Put carrots in your ears or anything can insulate the external sounds, particularly the advice from experts on everything, and do what I decided to do as I did back then.

“Things cannot be so dramatic,” I thought. A kid is coming, dude, and it such a happy incidence. Here everyone presents me an imminent Hell. So what do I do? ”
In order the following.

CLOSE YOUR EARS TO THE EXTERNAL VOICES.
READ.
GET INFORMED.
LOOK FOR WHAT IS WRITTEN ABOUT CHILDREN.
MAKE YOUR OWN PHILOSOPHY AND FOLLOW IT.

Go Online, read articles by child psychologists, get books from Amazon (should we not advertise our work a little?), have an appointment with a child psychiatrist-child psychologist, get opinions, filter what is right and what is wrong.

Do all this not alone, but with your partner, and make a plan for how you will manage your child’s rising from Day 1, which will come to this world, your rosy pink and very healthy I wish!

Talk, disagree, fight, have make up sex to have fun, but end up somewhere in terms of the plan and the philosophy of growing up that you will follow!
Believe me, talking openly about everything corrects MANY ISSUES.
And after all that, make the best move.

Keep listening to no one but yourself, your now renewed self with the knowledge you have acquired, and carry out your plan.

Therefore, before my little Stephen was born, I started deboning every article which was for raising and parenting, seeing every video in Youtube, ordering books and talking with experts (psychiatrists, psychologists, child psychologists, etc.).

The more I learned things, the more I closed my ears to external voices, which no longer had anything to say to me.

Because my plan for raising my child was slowly starting to take shape.
This book, then, has this purpose.

To impart you as much knowledge as I could gather trying to do the best for my child, but gathered together in one place, without having to spend the endless hours I spent.

A few words about me

I was born in a small town in Greece, Agrinio Etoloakarnania, on February 26, 1976.

From a young age I was interested in arts and letters and at the age of nine I started learning music (specifically classical guitar) and taking painting lessons (free and line drawing), because I wanted to become either a musician or a comic artist.

Eventually, my great love for music prevailed, but after the age of 10 I developed a deep relationship with literature and great poets and writers, both domestic and non.

Basically, my mother contributed to this, who initially gave me extra pocket money to read books (we are talking about actual bribery!), but after the germ had entered and I couldn’t stop!

At the age of 19 I attended the journalism seminars of the Athens Editor of a Daily Press Association and then for a long time I worked as a journalist, proofreader in major Athenian newspapers and magazines and as article writer (mainly humorous) on well-known Greek sites .

My mentor in writing was the great Greek journalist and very good friend of mine, Manos Antonaros, who unfortunately is no longer with us. I thank him, however, from here for everything and I wish he would rest in peace.

At the age of 22 I started learning the drums next to my great friend, teacher and mentor Giannis Stavropoulos and very soon I started playing professionally in music scenes, while practicing journalism, which I loved it deeply.

In 2012 I decided to make music, through teaching, my main source of income, opening a conservatory in the area of Ioannina, a small town in Greece, and teaching music to people of all ages, but mainly to children.

Nowadays I have created my own brand of music schools, entitled Stars Music Academy, which includes a Montessori’s structure of music education program for preschoolers, for children from 18 months up to 3 years, entitled Hippie Hippo.

In all these years of my involvement with the education of children, I have attended many seminars of child’s psychology, group dynamics regarding group lessons for children, management of ADHD and the role of music in it, as in general the work of Maria Montessori, which I highly value as a global form of pedagogy.

I still continue with great pleasure to do the job of a teacher to young children and I am very happy with that!

I now have two children, 3-year-old Stefanos and 2-month-old Zoe, and a wonderful cohabitation with my partner, Areti.

Before my children were born, I went through an endless process of educating myself as much as I could about raising children and becoming the best parent I could possibly be.

Originally from Southern California, Dr. Stephen Openshaw received his Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University in Indiana. On internship he helped military veterans with spinal cord injuries and other serious injuries requiring rehabilitation. He also focused on working with couples, and received extensive training in couples therapy. He worked with one of the founders of the UCLA Human Sexuality Program, at the Institute for Sex and Marital Therapy, learning to help couples with their intimate difficulties.
Before moving to Hawai’i, he practiced as a Clinical Psychologist in Fullerton, California. He continued to work with couples and had a general psychotherapy practice for many years. He was actively involved in various roles with St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton for 30 years, and was a member of the Medical Staff until 2013. After moving to Hawai’i, he worked as a counselor embedded in various Marine Battalions for a year at a time, including infantry, artillery and intelligence battalions. After graduating from college, Don got married to Christine Alexandrides of Campbell, Ohio. Christine was Greek-Orthodox and so Donald was baptized Greek-Orthodox before they were married. Don and Christine have been married for 33 years and are still going. Don and Christine have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. An infant son, Donald R. John Spender is a 19-time International Best Selling co-author, who didn’t learn how to read and write at a basic level until he was ten years old. He has since traveled the world, started many businesses leading him to create the best-selling book series A Journey Of Riches. He is an Award Winning International Speaker and Movie Maker.

John was an international NLP trainer and has coached thousands of people from various backgrounds through all sorts of challenges. From the borderline homeless to very wealthy individuals, he has helped many people to get in touch with their truth to create a life on their terms.
