I began writing in 1995 following a kidney transplant but it wasn’t until 2018 when my kidney function reduced to level in which I could no longer work, that I began to focus solely on writing. I signed a contract in February 2019 with Purple Parrot Publishing and in July that year my first book, Rainbow Dust was published. I love creating magical worlds for children to lose themselves in and my proudest moment was when a young girl went to school on World Book Day as Lucy my unicorn character. My second book, Rainbow Dust and the Moon, which if I’m allowed to say, I absolutely love was published on July 31st 2020 to coincide with International Marshmallow Day because the moon in my book, is made of the lovely, sweet gooey stuff!

Although I love writing for children, I am also working on two novels; one a family saga set during WW1, the other a psychological thriller as well as a young adult fantasy book and I recently had a short story called Lifeline aired on Radio Lancashire.

I enjoy walks out with my husband and my dog Seve who is named after Seve Ballesteros, my favourite golfer. I also enjoy meals out and our holidays which are generally to Puerto de Santiago in Tenerife. I fell in love with the area when I went to Los Gigantes aged 15 to see my grandma who had retired out there. I moved there when I was 18 and the island has always held a special place in my heart. 30 years later my husband feels the same way which is why we tend to return there twice a year for our holidays. We spent many years travelling to different countries which I enjoyed very much but I have to say, it is nice to return to somewhere that is familiar and feels like going home.

I love sport from tennis, to golf, cricket to athletics and rugby. I used to love to play tennis and even won a gold medal at the British Transplant Games which was in honour of my mum, who donated her kidney to me and therefore not only gave me life once but twice.

I would like to list an impressive list of colleges, but the truth is there are none. Getting paid to write something is difficult. Getting paid to write full-time, for a living wage, is shooting for the stars.

If you want to write for other people, not just for your own enjoyment, you need an audience. That brings us to why you are here. I hope to use my works, my website, and my Facebook page to build an audience.

Blogging seems to be a great way to start. I hope to entertain, inform, be insightful, and share some personal stories. I enjoy telling stories. Rayner Ye isn’t my pen name, it’s my real name. My hubby’s Chinese, so I took his name which means ‘green leaf’ in Mandarin, and my mum named me Rayner after a great aunt’s middle name. I’m from Oxford originally and that’s where my side of the family still live. My inlaws are in China and Singapore.

Although I graduated in Envirnomental Biology back in the day (twenty years ago,) it was so hard to get an environmental job, and I didn’t want to test on lab rats, so I taught English as a foreign language and yoga in East Asia for five years. That’s where I met my hubby.

We live back in the UK now with our two cute kids. I didn’t fancy going back into teaching so am trying really hard to make some kind of income in self publishing. It’s fun, but hard work and very competetive.

Although all of my books are set around the seven solar systems of the Plan8 Alliance, my first couple of series are space fantasy and time travel thriller, whereas the current series I’m working on has no magic or time travel and is technothriller space opera with lots of cyborgs. The books I’m promoting here are the shape-shifting and time travel stuff set on my Plan8 Alliance.

A lot of my inspiration in my first series comes from my time living and working in Indonesia (which was an amazing experience.)
