Writing is my life…

well, maybe not completely…but I do love what I do, and I think that makes all the difference!

After a long career in advertising, marketing, graphic design & public relations–the real world of “Mad Men”, I joined the U.S. Peace Corps. As a volunteer assigned to rural community development work in the South American country of Suriname (formerly Dutch Guiana), I lived for a year in an indigenous Amerindian village on the northeast corner of the Amazon basin.

This experience inspired my first novel, the adventure/romance, “Hard Amazon Rain.”

It was also In Suriname where I learned the history of Elisabeth Samson, the first black woman in the 18th century Dutch plantation colony to get legal permission from the government to marry white, inspiring me to write my second novel, “Elisabeth Samson, Forbidden Bride.”

And I was off and writing… completing 3 more novels, two memoirs, a book on art journaling, 3 adult coloring books (one of my other passions), 3 editing books for writers, and most recently a non-fiction book for aspiring memoir writers, “The 5 Important Parts of a Successful Memoir & Why You Need Them.”

In 2012 I moved from the United States to Cuenca, Ecuador, way up in the Andes. From here I also publish www.adventuress-travel-magazine.com, for “women over 50 doing fun things.” I still love to travel and look forward to returning to Vegas and Seattle periodically to visit friends and shop at Costco and Chico’s.

Additional current works-in-progress include two online video courses. It’s a new stretch for me to learn all the technology to do this professionally. The course material itself I’ve taught before, but only in classroom settings.

My latest memoir is “HELP! I Married an Alien/a Comedian!” It’s a series of funny and poignant stories about my 30-year relationship with a stand-up comic.

My next fiction book, “Plan to Kill” will debut November 7, 2020. I’m soooo enjoying the research about how the White House and politicians work!
