As of mid-2017, NASA had verified the existence of over 3750 exoplanets, that is, planets orbiting other stars in our Milky Way galaxy. “It’s very exciting,” said NASA’s Dr. William Kinney. “It opens up the universe. Now we know that we’re just one of billions and billions of small worlds that are very much like ours. If you extrapolate that to our galaxy as a whole, the calculation based on the Kepler data is that there are around 40 billion planets like earth.”
The 40 billion planets “like earth” is the number calculated to be in our galaxy alone, and the Milky Way is only one of the estimated ten trillion or so galaxies. This makes a rough estimate of the number of planets in the known universe to be 80 sextillion (an 8 with 22 zeros behind it). To offer a frame of reference for that number, picture all the grains of sand on every beach on earth, multiply that picture by 16, and you may get an impression of how many planets are out there.

Set in the late 1750’s ‘Lost to the sea’ is a series of historical nautical fiction that follows the life of an orphan boy who is taken in by the church, educated and apprenticed to a local collier brig captain.

The books are written in pairs; Books 1 & 2 trace his early years. We follow his trials, tribulations and triumphs as he struggles to cope with life ‘before the mast’ on a coastal brig and later after being taken by the pressgang ‘below decks’ on a sloop of war.

Books 3 & 4 tell of his triumphs as he becomes a trusted sea captain captures a pirates treasure, rescues his old captain and marries his daughter.

Book 5 An Indian Affair. A personal tragedy almost destroys him but with the help of his friends, he agrees to carry them to India only to find their plantation has been destroyed during a riot. Finding a cargo for Boston he agrees to give them free passage home.

Following on immediately from Book 5, James heads for England. En route, he comes across the wreckage of a clash between a pirate and a merchant ship and rescues the survivors.
In England, he finds the old Duke has died and left him a small estate and a pension.
Having sold his sugar he loads a cargo of English porcelain and sails for Jamaica.
Forced off course by a hurricane, he is driven ashore on a deserted Caribbean island and the ship is wrecked. Leaving his crew to salvage what they can of the cargo, he sets out to sail an open boat 1000 miles to Jamaica for assistance.

On leaving school I served 7 years as a navigation officer in the navy. When I came ashore and worked as a stunt man in TV and film in the UK and Spain.
I qualified as commercial diver in 1964 and worked in 54 different countries and passed through every stage of development of diving from Hard Hat to Saturation diving.
I began writing while on a very long decompression that lasted 35 days. Having read every book on the rig I decided to write my own with a pencil. It was over 100,000 words and a load of rubbish.
I join Catherine Cookson’s Writers group and sold 3 plays for TV. Later I became a technical author and wrote many of the safety regulations for the North Sea Offshore Oil Industry and the Highways Authority in the UK

I retired to Mallorca in 2010 and began working as a freelance Journalist for several newspapers and now concentrate on writing fiction. I had a very bad experience with a company; I sent them the rough draft of three of my novels to a company which they published as is which is why I now self-published.
I work on my autobiography ‘The seven ages of Van’ between books.

I have a major crush on Professor Newhart, but of course I don’t expect it to go anywhere. Because a relationship between a student and a professor? That would be so inappropriate. And I doubt that plain old me would ever catch the eye of the sexy professor.

But then he tries my cookies at a bake sale. And soon after, he’s determined to also have me for dessert.

My heart nearly leaps out of my chest when I see Professor Newhart standing next to me. He’s wearing a light blue button-down that reveals an oh-so-tempting bit of his chest, and I have to remind myself not to drool. He’s so close to me that I can smell his sweet and spicy cologne, a scent that makes me want to lean toward him and breathe him in.

“Are you 21?” he asks.

Oh s**t. My lust quickly evaporates at his question. “Um…”

He smirks. “You should be glad that I’m not a cop.”

My cheeks redden. “Are you going to report me?”

“That depends.”

My stomach drops. “On what?”

“Are you going to report me for this?”

Making me gasp, he kisses my shoulder, then licks my bare skin. Okay, so he was flirting with me at the bake sale. Heat courses through my veins. “What are you doing? We’re in public!”

A mischievous smile appears on his face. “Is that your only objection to me kissing you?”

“You’re my professor,” I hiss, my eyes darting around the bar. No one seemed to notice us, thank God.

“So? I want you, and I’m fairly certain you want me too.” He lowers his head, trying to kiss me again, but I push him away before his lips can touch me.

“Someone can see us.” A part of me wants to say to hell with the consequences and let him freaking take me right here, right now, but fortunately, my saner side wins out.

However, his saner side has definitely lost to his crazy lust-driven side, for he grabs my hand and says, “Then let’s go somewhere more private.”

Oh, I am in trouble. I should rip my hand from his. That would be the appropriate, the right thing to do.

But Lord, I want to do the inappropriate and wrong thing.

From the time we were old enough to comprehend language, we were told to have a goal. It took me almost fifty years, but I finally found it. To be more specific, I no longer want to put on pants to go to work.

Blogging seems to be a great way to start. I hope to entertain, inform, be insightful, and share some personal stories. I enjoy telling stories.
