After a long day and an even longer week, twenty-eight year old Lexi Morris, an accountant at a large university in central Pennsylvania, drags her tired body to her car parked in the back lot. Her cell phone blew up during the seminar she attended to promote awareness regarding abductions by a human sex trafficking ring. The handsome instructor, she can’t remember his name, is too cute for his own good. She can’t concentrate or focus on his words, let alone his warnings. He understands his job and appears genuinely concerned and serious about teaching others how to protect themselves.
She answers texts and reads and responds to messages from her friends who want to “hook up” with her over the weekend. She tells her friend Monica “she’ll call her later when she gets home,” when all she really wants to do is soak in a hot bubble bath and enjoy a glass of wine. Her mind, on autopilot, is not interested in her surroundings
Suddenly, strong arms grab her from behind and a dirty rag covers her mouth. She attempts to fight him off without success, and finally succumbs to the odor on the cloth covering her mouth and darkness envelops her.
Thirty-four year old FBI agent Luke Miller sits on his front porch of his hunting camp located in the isolated hills of central PA. His suspicions are roused when a white van speeds past his cabin to the only other place at the end of the road; his late Uncle Pat’s property which is still in probate.
Luke replays in his head the last conversation he had at his office a few hours ago with his supervisor and mentor, Garrett Fisher. Eddy Gutto, a well-known leader of one of the largest sex trafficking rings in Philly was released from prison and now on the FBI’s most wanted list. He’s also suspected of being in the local area.
Lexi wakes up in a strange place; wood logs everywhere. She hears boots on the stairs and feigns sleep. A door closes and locks after someone leaves her room. She searches her room for her possessions, especially her cell phone. She finds an adjoining bath and bedroom where a young woman, Amy Nelson, lays sobbing on the bed. Amy shares her means of abduction; a flannel plaid shirt wrapped around the windshield wiper of her car and prohibiting her view through the windshield so when she steps out she’s grabbed and knocked out. She and Amy promise whoever gets free first will send help.
They overhear men talking downstairs about Eddy someone and how much he’ll pay for Lexi. She was for sale? One of her abductors comes to her room and she demands they release her, as well as Amy. He backhands her, breaking the skin on her cheek and then falls on her. He’s pulled off her, punched and knocked to the floor by her other captor. Once they’re outside and her room door is locked again she continues to search for an escape.
They snatch Amy, drag her downstairs and out the door. Lexi hears Amy’s screams and then the van leaves with Amy inside. Lexi, locked inside checks out the refrigerator. It’s full of unopened water bottles and a dropper container of some kind of “poison.” She puts “drops” into every bottle in the fridge.
Meanwhile, earlier that morning, Luke sets out to hike to his uncle’s cabin, hiding in the woods watching the two captors drag a young woman to the van and then leave. He picks the back door lock, enters the cabin, and follows the sound of sobs to the second floor where he finds Lexi. They recognize each other and she agrees to leave with him. When they step outside the bedroom door, Eddy Gutto punches and knocks out Luke, who lands hard on the floor.
Eddy drags a screaming Lexi down the stairs where she breaks away. He introduces himself and she remembers overhearing the other two men “selling her to Eddy.” He attacks her across the couch and hauls her outside to his truck where she is placed in the passenger seat. She jumps and rolls from the truck as it backs up and then stops when she hears Luke commanding Eddy to put down the gun. Eddy refuses and Luke shoots Eddy who falls forward onto the steering wheel.
Together, Luke and Lexi hide Eddy and his truck behind a huge pile of firewood and high tail it to the woods. The two kidnappers return and Luke and Lexi start the trek back to Luke’s cabin. It begins to snow but Luke is determined to get her to safety and carries her to the cabin.
Luke drags a shaking Lexi into a warm shower and rips off her clothes in an attempt to warm up her body core and prevent hyperthermia. They share a kiss and Lexi wants Luke to take her mind off her recent terror by having sex. He soon comes to his senses and leaves her in the shower to get dressed.
Over grilled cheese sandwiches and fresh coffee Luke shares his background; a foster kid raised with his younger sister, Allie, by his Aunt Viola. Fourteen-year-old Allie goes to a party with drugs, alcohol and boys. She wants to go home and Dale, the quarterback of the football team, volunteers but wants sex. She resists and is left in an open field. She makes her way to the highway in bare feet but her footprints end there. Luke feels responsible.
He didn’t stop her from going to the party.
He didn’t warn her about getting into a strangers car.
He didn’t get to her soon enough.
Lexi asks how, why and where Luke became an agent on the Anti-Human Sex Trafficking Taskforce in PA. She shares her childhood memories of growing up in upstate New York with her brother and sister. Now her parents share their time between New York and Florida.
Exhausted from the hike, they head to bed early–Luke makes a bed of blankets on the floor beside the bed. When he hears screaming during the night he wakes to find Lexi in the throes of a nightmare. He jumps on the bed and comforts her, which allows her to go to sleep in his arms.
The next day, the snow stops and the two kidnappers knock on the front door looking for “their sister.” Lexi hides in the locked bathroom inside the locked bedroom. Luke denies seeing anyone, especially an attractive young woman like they describe to him.
Luke and Lexi spend the day playing cards and sharing their lives Luke teaches Lexi a few self defense moves with instigates sexual attraction to each other.
The thugs return the next day with a battering ram, knock the front door down and draw their weapons. Luke’s able to take one down, then pushes Lexi behind him. When he’s shot in the shoulder, he falls to the floor; his gun slides out of his hand and out of reach. While one villain drives away. The remaining man drags Lexi outside by a beefy arm around her neck. She hears something at the doorway and watches as Luke shoots the guy holding her. She lands in the snow-softened ground, and he falls face down on top of her. Luke passes out in the doorway and Lexi can’t get out from under the dead weight.
Garrett Fisher, Luke’s supervisor, arrives by helicopter along with a rescue team who takes Luke and Lexi to the hospital. Lexi stays in Luke’s room during surgery and a day or so of recovery. Wyatt Bowman, Agent in Charge of the Federal Human Trafficking Task Force, visits Luke in the hospital.
Lexi takes a break to the ladies room and when she returns with cold fingers, she slips her hands in Luke’s jacket, which, she borrows from him at his house. She discovers a wad of cash, one hundred dollar bills wrapped in a rubber band. Her mind, in overtime, imagines all sorts of foul play and doesn’t want anything to do with Luke. It may be the money to “pay” for her to be his sex slave.
Monica, Lexi’s best friend, rushes to the hospital to pick up a frantic Lexi. As she parks, a blue van drives in front of her and over the curb, blocking her car. A man jumps out and races toward the entrance doors. He grabs Lexi and throws her into the back of the van through the side door. Monica follows the van as it leaves the hospital.
Garrett reports to Luke; Lexi is missing. Luke rips off his attachments to the monitoring machines as well as an IV. He attempts to leave without Garrett or his unit but Garrett convinces him to wait and formulate a plan, using all local resources available.
Luke arrives at a “trailer park” and rescues Lexi. As he carries her outside, she fights him and screams for him to get away from her, she doesn’t want him near her. She doesn’t trust him.
After Lexi is checked out by parameds she’s taken to the FBI local headquarters and provides answers and a signed statement. She also receives counseling.
Lexi stays cooped up in her apartment with Monica, safe but sad. She misses Luke.
Luke desperately needs the money. Luke calls and texts Lexi wanting to talk but she ignores him until he knocks on her apartment door.
One glance at Luke and goose bumps appear all over Lexi’s body, her heart races. Lexi wants him, regardless of where the money came from. She opens the door and pulls him toward her by his shirt and tie. She kisses him passionately.
They move inside the room. Her reaction to him unexpected, Luke asks about the money; Lexi thinks for a second that’s all he wants from her. But he explains how he found the money in Eddy’s pocket when he frisked him before pushing his truck behind the log pile.
They snuggle on the couch and declare their feelings for each other and what the future holds for them.
They kiss fervently.
He stands and motions for her to follow him as he strolls toward the bedroom. She quickly follows, and says, “Wait for me.”

I live on a densely populated peninsula in the mid west coast of Florida with my husband, (my high school sweetheart), and AJ, my long-haired Chihuahua. With the help of my husband, we raised two grown respectable and responsible sons, who have given me two daughters-in law and three grandchildren. I’ve trekked all over the country, including Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, California, and Montana, which are some of my favorite settings for my books.

I wrote my first story in the fourth grade in the form of a play—something about getting a shot at the doctor—it actually was produced by my teacher for parents and students in a Friday afternoon assembly. When I was older, I spilled my guts in a journal every night and wrote long newsy love letters to Viet Nam to my now husband of 50 years. I majored in English in college and worked in the finance arena as a CFO for thirty-five years.
I am a multi published author of Romantic Suspense; two series, the Deadly series with six books, and the Saddle Creek series of four books but a Christmas trilogy. I have also written and published a compilation of four short Christmas stories: Christmas Awakenings. I am a mentor to others helping them write, complete and polish their books for submission.
After six years as a copy editor for The Wild Rose Press, and two years as an editor I decided to devote more time to my family and my own writing career.
An author of romantic suspense, I love reading almost as much as writing. I am a licensed acupuncturist and yoga instructor who also happens to be a writer. Back in the early 90s, I was a Social Worker in a psychiatric hospital, and before that, I spent a year as a teacher in a Catholic grade school. I wrote my first story in the fourth grade in the form of a play—something about getting a shot at the doctor—it actually was produced by my teacher for parents and students in a Friday afternoon assembly. When I was older, I spilled my guts in a journal every night and wrote long newsy love letters to Viet Nam to my now husband of 50 years. I majored in English in college and worked in the finance arena as a CFO for thirty-five years.
I am a multi published author of Romantic Suspense; two series, the Deadly series with six books, and the Saddle Creek series of four books but a Christmas trilogy. I have also written and published a compilation of four short Christmas stories: Christmas Awakenings. I am a mentor to others helping them write, complete and polish their books for submission.
After six years as a copy editor for The Wild Rose Press, and two years as an editor I decided to devote more time to my family and my own writing career.
An author of romantic suspense, I love reading almost as much as writing. I have filled my book shelves with my favorites, i.e. Harlan Coben, Eliza March, Johanna Lindsey, Kathleen Woodiwiss, Desiree Holt, Catherine Bybee, Kendra Elliott, Shirley Jump, BJ Daniels, Andrew Gross, and Bobbi Smith, just to mention a few, as well as all the classics.

Personal Interest: I love scrapbooking and genealogy, connecting stories with pictures. I’ve sewn, quilted and have machine embroidered but my interests have changed as I’ve grown older. (I’m not really that old.) Now, I really enjoy writing stories, many times using my real life experiences, to tell the tale.
