I was born and raised in Wyoming and can’t imagine living anywhere else. I’m an author, a certified public accountant who works tax season each year, and a United States Army veteran who served as a military police officer. It was as a soldier and MP that I learned survival skills and the use of multiple weapons, skills needed by the characters in DAEIOS: 140 FEET DOWN.

I became an author because, for as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write a novel. Everyone has a book in them, they say. I had no idea my first book would be a dystopian thriller! I’ve written a lot of stories, essays (I was a top finalist in the Writer’s Digest 83rd Annual Writing Competition for my essay, Fearsome Men), poetry, and one short play over the years. I have always been an avid reader and my love for the written word needs to be expressed in my own voice.

When my husband, Rob, proposed to me, he told me he would support me in whatever I wanted to do. Whether that be hanging out my own shingle as an accountant (I had worked full-time in accounting for many years at that time), writing that book that was nagging at me, or anything else. I really enjoy writing, seeing my stories come to life sentence after sentence, page after page.

I wrote DAEIOS because I wanted to create an imperfect character and have her become something special at the end of the book. I’ve been fascinated by underground caverns ever since visiting Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico as a child, so that became the setting. I thought it would be interesting to take current world issues and imagine the worst-case scenarios. What would that look like? How would it affect the characters in the story?

My original idea for DAEIOS was to make it a dystopian story with humor. That’s how it started, with Shea and other characters being funny at times, because, don’t people handle adversity with humor, even if it’s dry humor? But the darker DAEIOS became, the less the humor fit. So DAEIOS became a thriller and has only a touch of lightness here and there to break up the darkness.

When I’m not writing or getting my fix of numbers, (which I also love) during tax season, I love to travel: by boat or ship, airplane, train, car, or motorcycle (I ride on the back). I’ve seen much of the world but there’s still so much more to see. I also enjoy whitewater rafting, walking and hiking, reading, movies, and binge-worthy TV series, plays, live music, and most of all, spending time with my husband and family.

The model combines the love for my children with the research I did, as well as what I know and do – namely the field of consulting, direct sales and marketing.
This is how I go through the 7-step process with my son Max and it takes less than 90 seconds combined:
Step 1: EARN ATTENTION
Focus! It is all about ONE THING NOW. Earn their attention. Ensure they want to listen.
I’ll energetically say “Hey Maxi!” or “Oh look! What a cool brush”.
In marketing, it’s also called the “Hook” (or in the AIDA method, the first A for Attention).
Step 2: DISCOVER
Ask them. Ask yourself.
“What do you want to do next?”
“What do I want to do next?”
Now YOU listen.
Step 3: ACKNOWLEDGE
Connect. Bond. Show them you saw, you heard.
“OK, so you want to ?”
“OK, Max, so you really want to play with the PJ Masks?”
Step 4: PRESENT OFFER
Present your IRRESISTIBLE OFFER. They told you what they want, didn’t they?
Make it a huge win-win! (they win and you win)
“So, how about you
and we just/

Say you are getting an airplane ticket and there is now indication if you are flying on the 20th, coming back on the 25th, they show you no price, NOTHING! Just “CLICK HERE”…
I discovered this is how my child feels if I skip this step. So DON’T skip it.
Summarize your entire deal, stacking the benefits for them.
Assuming he agreed to my offer (and if not, I need to ask more questions and present a better one), I go:
“Alright, great! So we are going to the store and we’ll take all the PJ Masks, AND the Wolfies, AND Romeo, so you get to play with all of them in the car. YES?”
Step 6: DO IT
Execute! Grab the toys, jump in the car and do as agreed! You are living the dream.
Enjoy it! You are welcome!
Step 7: APPRECIATE / FEEDBACK
Appreciation has TWO meanings and you get the benefits of BOTH!
1. It means a feeling gratitude, approval, admiration.
2. It also means increase in value, as in the world of finance and investing widely known.
The way I get both is this:
“WOW! That is a great ride, isn’t it? How do you like it?”
This give us a chance to feel joy of being together and doing what the two of us agreed to and it also opens up a field for improvement (thus the increase in value), if Max say “Oh, it is fun but I am a little cold”, for example.

Ando’s creative journey began in the early 2000s, where he performed with various punk rock bands in Milwaukee, WI. His love of art grew exponentially, and after obtaining his nursing license, he spent several years working as a traveling RN and performing a solo act with his accordion that he dubbed “Death Polka.” This project provided Ando the opportunity to travel across the United States and Europe. When he wasn’t working at his job as an RN, he was playing his accordion. When he wasn’t performing solo sets, he was performing as an accordion player for other bands. Ando lived and breathed music and live performance for ten years. Death Polka released a total of three individual records, two split records, took part in hundreds of live performances, and was involved in multiple creative projects by other artists’.

In 2014, Ando was inspired to tell his stories through visual art and writing. He produced hundreds of drawings, and eventually released his first book series from 2015 to 2016 titled “Maggots in the Moonlight,” exploring some of his most bizarre and morbid encounters in the medical industry. The response to this work was polarizing. Reader reviews ranged from “brilliant” to “a disgusting desecration of death.”

2019 celebrated a rebirth in Ando’s creativity. He began a new project, Demon Tree Media, and within less than one hundred days of its creation, had made his own book called “The Masks of the Manipulator” and illustrated a children’s book titled “Can You Trust a Fart?” He also started a weekly YouTube show discussing creativity while filming his drawing process.
