I was born and grew up in Akron, Ohio, and spent most of my life in the Midwest. My love of reading began in the 3rd grade and my fate was sealed three years later when I took first place in a reading contest and won…you guessed it, a book! If there was an Olympic medal for reading, I would take gold, having mastered the ability to read anywhere, while walking, sitting, standing, or lying down.

The memoir remains one of my favorite genres and my goal has been that writing about my life experiences would benefit more than me. It wasn’t until I was given a diagnosis of breast cancer in 2016 that writing became a necessity as I processed through the challenges of a serious illness. Three years later, I was compelled to pull together all of my individual writings and create a story about healing from cancer.

Part of my experience involved the use of scripture art and the creation of a blog where I posted my daily devotions, usually including scripture art that matched my passage for the day. During a lazy Christmas holiday, I began organizing three years’ worth of scripture art. The process took a few days and I realized that each day, at the end of the reviewing and cataloging process, my mood was so much better – the peace, joy, calm and positivity practically radiated off of me and stayed with me until the next day. It didn’t require meditation, only the brief process of reading scripture and enjoying the visual art of each piece. That’s when I learned the power of viewing and reading visual images of scripture each day. As a result, my work includes both narrative textbooks as well as books of scripture art.

I work with my own art as well as with the work of artists who provide license-free photography, so my scripture art is always free, downloadable and ready to us as wallpaper on your cell phone or printed off in any form you wish. The process I use involves documenting the work of identifying spiritual challenges, addressing them in partnership with the Holy Spirit in a loving, forgiving way, and using the Word of God to heal. was born in Texas as a menacing middle child with a strange imagination that I still don’t understand, but following it, led me to become the writer I am today. In my youth, I adventured with my little brother to places unknown. Sometimes we would go into the forest for miles trying to find a mysterious crystal to save the world from the demons waiting to get him, or finding a hidden enigma in the woods who fed us cookies like “Hansel and Gretel”.

At the age of twelve, my family and I moved from Texas to Tennessee where, initially, I had a difficult time adjusting to life and meeting new friends. I spent a significant amount of time enjoying various fantasy shows on TV as any other kid would, ranging from Highlander to Sliders to X Men -The Animated Series, or movies such as Watership Down, The Dark Crystal or The Last Unicorn. I was drawn to read books including The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, or The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, anything with a hint of fantasy always piqued my interest. When I wasn’t watching TV, playing RPGs like Breath of Fire, Earthbound, Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger turned the wheels of my creativity, eventually leading me to write thousands of pages of fan-fiction devoted to the characters I cherished.

My passion to create fantastical tales was inspired by the loss of my best friend, and cat, Uno. I always created stories for my friends and me to play out, but through his loss, I finally put this on paper. Since then, I found a fervor in creating stories and enchanted worlds and bending reality that continues to enthrall me; it is what drives me. Through my writing, I can experience things I adore. Joan Donaldson is the author of three picture books, two young adult novels, and a new adult novel, Hearts of Mercy that won first place in the romantic suspense division of the 2018 PenCraft Awards. Her essay collection, Wedded to the Land, includes the selection, Saint George and the Dragon that won the 2007 Hearst Prize for Excellence in Literary Nonfiction. Fantasy and science fiction have always been my favorites. I grew up with the stories. Especially those from the era of dime novels and genre magazines, the time when both fields were deemed fringe areas of fiction. Stories that spark the imagination and bring a reader to worlds and concepts beyond his reality. Though I have to admit, fact is fast catching up with science fiction.

I write fiction anchored on a familiar fact – be it mythology, historical events, existing mythos, or even a physical feature. Something that one knows exists in the real world. It makes immersion in the grand adventure easier and more enjoyable. A book may be an author’s creation, but it doesn’t mean there couldn’t be a common point of reference between the writer’s story and the reader’s experience. Or even between readers.

I started writing as a hobby. On free serialized novel websites. For the pleasure of writing and sharing one’s stories. I was fortunate that other people found them engaging and enjoyable. To my readers, thanks!

There are innumerable worlds out there. Explore, let your imagination fly. Unlike the protagonists in the stories, there is no dark Elder god, a tentacled monstrosity, a stabby assassin, a vampire or ten, or a vengeful deity waiting outside your door. Nor will opening a book suck you into a separate dimension. Maybe.

Rembert N Parker somehow survived growing up in the fifties and sixties and worked as a photographer’s assistant, golf caddy, busboy, librarian, radio disc jockey, computer programmer, actuary, television talk show host, AOL community leader, and university professor (he got a doctorate in Computer Science Education after writing a textbook for new programmers). He now spends his spare time managing a comic book and game store and writing books and posts to his blog.

His early publications included gaming adventures for Dungeons and Dragons and other role-playing games.
