I am R W Rasner, and I was born and raised in Southern Indiana. Except for about one year, I have been a lifelong resident of Indiana. I knew at a very young age that I wanted to be a police officer when I grew up. That desire never went away.
After graduating high school, I served six years in the Indiana Army National Guard, having joined during my senior year of high school. I was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant, E-5. There were no conflicts in the world that the US was involved in at the time, so I never had the honor of serving abroad as did (and still do) so many. God bless our troops!
I was still in the Army when I got my first job as a police officer. I attended the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield, IN. I took some college classes during this period but did not pursue a degree. I remained in law enforcement except for one year that I thought I wanted to do something else. This led me into corporate loss prevention management, but I knew this wasn’t for me and that I missed law enforcement.
After leaving loss prevention, I was able to regain employment in the law enforcement/criminal justice field. I retired from the State of Indiana after 19 ½ years of service as an Internal Affairs Investigator/Correctional Police Officer in the Indiana Department of Correction. After retirement from there, I served as a patrol officer for almost two more years on a local police department, before leaving public service.
Finally retiring, for the most part, I decided to pursue a lifelong side dream of writing. A lot of people always told me that I had a way with words so that was encouraging. I decided to write about things that I had firsthand knowledge of and have published three books thus far. One is a book about my father’s lost battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, A Dad Remembered: Because He Couldn’t. The second book is on a much lighter note and is about some of my daughter’s silliness, We All Know One: Happenstances with a Goofball. She is one of those people that do and say things before she thinks about it, and often it is very amusing. The third book is about dogs. My love of dogs, especially the dog we have now, prompted this third book, Fur the Love of Dogs.
I plan on more books. My believer as a Christian seems to have led me to writing a devotional book, which I am currently working on. I am considering a book, or more, about some of the many investigations that I conducted, or was part of, during almost 20 years. This included 4 homicide investigations of which I was the lead investigator. I witnessed some terrible and bizarre things and can share the true stories behind them. I have another area or two that interest me so that might be another book outlet. Whatever is in the Lord’s will. God bless!
