Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers
- The Queen’s Blade VI – Lord Protector by TC Southwell - T. C. Southwell was born in Sri Lanka and moved to the Seychelles when she was a baby. She spent her formative years exploring the islands – mostly alone. Naturally, her imagination flourished and she developed a keen love of other worlds. The family travelled through Europe and Africa and, after the death of her father, settled in South Africa.
T. C. Southwell has written over thirty novels, ranging from fantasy and science fiction to romance and adventure, as well as five screenplays. Her hobbies include motorcycling, horse riding and art, and she is now a full-time writer.
- Death Ain’t But A Word: A Supernatural Hot Mess - After years of writing short fiction under different pen names in different Internet venues, Zander Marks has finally completed a full-length novel he is willing to share. Marks lives in Dallas, Texas, where he has experienced some, but not all, of the situations depicted in Death Ain't But A Word.
- HOMESCHOOLING – An Essential Guide for Parents and Teachers - Wells Emery is a teacher with a major in Elementary and Special Education.
- The Deadly Dog Show by Jerold Last - The author is a scientist on the faculty of the University of California and a big fan of mystery novels. This is the seventh book in a series. The settings and locales for the preceding novels, including The Ambivalent Corpse, The Surreal Killer, and The Matador Murders are authentic; the author lived previously in Salta, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay for several months each, and selected several of the most interesting locations he found for Roger and Suzanne to visit.
Jerry and his wife Elaine live in Northern California, where Elaine breeds prize-winning German Shorthaired Pointer dogs and enjoys being a grandmother to two (almost three) granddaughters and a grandson. Elaine's dog-breeding, showing, and training expertise serves as the background for "The Deadly Dog Show". A blog describing the background and birth of Jerry's books; Jerry, Elaine, and the dogs' lives; and all things mysterious can be found at http://rogerandsuzannemysteries.blogspot.com. Please visit it and take a look.
- Diary of a Heretic by Kathleen Maher - I am a lifelong writer with short fiction published in a number of literary journals. Diary of a Heretic is my first published novel, and I am working on a couple of others.
I live with my husband, Manny, amid jackhammers and cement trucks in downtown New York City, where we moved after raising two wonderful children in the suburbs. (We both grew up in and around Chicago.)
Diary of a Heretic had a long, strange birth: I woke up one New Year’s morning in the late 1990s and told Manny that a twenty-five-year old gay man was in my head. That's not as fanciful as it may sound. Malcolm Tully, the main character, came to me as a full-blown creative force, not a dream, not a hallucination.
The idea that he was complete—I needed only to listen to him—did not make writing Diary of a Heretic easier. It took me 15 years to cast and recast the story so that it moved at an enjoyable pace. (The first draft took me five years to write, in between driving the kids to soccer games and music lessons and all the rest.)
For a couple of years, I sent Diary of a Heretic to agents and publishers but they all rejected it as completely unmarketable. In January this year, Manny decided he wanted to read it again. Reading the latest version, he laughed out loud on nearly every page. “What’s so funny?” I’d ask and he’d quote a line or two. Some of these I’d forgotten. Others I could recite word for word. He enjoyed it so much that we decided to put it on Kindle.
P.S. For a while I posted chapters of Diary of a Heretic on a blog with the same name. Then I began posting all my work in progress as a way to keep myself from rewriting stories to death. You can still visit the blog, now called "Pure Fiction" (www.diaryofaheretic.com), where you will find a gumbo of short fiction, unpolished serialized stories, and various ephemera. Leave a message! I love to hear from readers.
- The small group vision manual - Richard Spinos, “Rick” as he prefers to be called, was born and raised in a small denomination called the Apostolic Christian Church founded by Samuel H. Froehlich from Switzerland in the 1800's. He was baptized at the age of 14.
Rick was born in a Christian family and as a small child was taught that he was a sinner and needed to have his own spiritual life. On December 31 1973, he felt moved by an evangelistic sermon that spoke to him that he was not ready for the Lord's return. He was too nervous to go forward for the altar call so he left the building weeping and went outside to the car. In less than a minute, his father got in the car and led him in a prayer and he became born again right then and there. As a young teenager with the encouragement of his father, he developed healthy Bible reading and study habits. Soon he began teaching Sunday school and became the youth group leader.
He soon discovered that his spiritual gift was in the area of teaching.
In December of 1983, the Apostolic Christian Church Foundation sent him as a missionary to Brazil to work with an organization called Project Amazon. He worked in a boat factory as manager and factory supervisor and oversaw the construction of over 40 houseboats, 1 yacht, and a Catamaran Hospital boat for church planting use along the Amazon River.
He married his wife Sandra who is a Brazilian national in July of 1985 and they assumed the pastorate of one of the Project Amazon churches in 1988. In 1990, Project Amazon sent Rick and his wife as church planters to the state of Amapá, where they planted three churches for Project Amazon.
In 2008, they affiliated themselves with the Vine International and the last church that they planted became one of the Churches under the care of this organization.
In December of 2009, The Vine International invited them to join a church planting endeavor in Southern Florida. They accepted the invitation and turned the last church in Brazil over to the Brazilian Nationals in March of 2010.
In Brazil, Rick has written extensively in the Portuguese language in the area of Christian worker training. He has written Bible study guides, evangelistic tracts, and hundreds of small group lesson guides. From June 2009-2010 he hosted a highly successful Christian radio program with his wife called "Overcomers on the air".
He has just started freelance activities since he arrived in the U.S. at the end of 2010. Rick has written several articles for Christian e-zines. Rick maintains a Facebook page with a little over 1,850 fans called "Why be Holy if Salvation is by Grace" http://www.facebook.com/why.be.holy and a blog called Vinebrancher http://vinebrancher.com.
