1. The Breeders - Katie French imagined herself an author when her poem caught the eye of her second grade teacher. In middle school she spent her free time locked in her room, writing her first young adult novel. Though her social life suffered, her love for literature thrived. She studied English at Eastern Michigan University, where she veered from writing and earned an education degree. She spent nine years teaching high school English. Currently she is a school counselor, doing a job that is both one of the hardest things she's ever done and the most rewarding. In her free time she writes, reads great books and takes care of her two beautiful and crazy children. 9. VIctory Song by Jeri Doner - Jeri Doner was an active member of the North-South-Skirmish-Association for over twenty years. This sparked her interest in 149th NYVI regiment of the Civil War. She is the mother of four children and seven grandchildren. She was an avid seamstress often making reproduction gowns and uniforms from the Civil War time period. Her love of writing and history led to the novel Victory Song.

That impatience has propelled me to earn a creative writing graduate degree and to write novels and short stories, three of which have won national awards. I grew up in the DC suburbs and have lived in the Midwest, Deep South, West Coast, and abroad as a teacher, editor, screenwriter, and reporter. My writing seeks to reflect, in style and subject, the everyday reality that inspires it. I’m drawn to fiction that depends largely on character-driven plot instead of relying on voice or style to carry it. I prefer a workmanlike prose style that, by virtue of its realism, concreteness, and absence of an intervening consciousness, virtually disappears before the reader’s eyes, enabling him to transcend the experience of reading to directly experience the story instead. My goal in writing fiction that is squarely in the realist mode is to create a narrative that is intentionally unobtrusive so as not to draw attention to itself and interfere with the reader’s close experience of the story as, in John Gardner’s words, a “vivid and continuous dream.”
    
13. Demon Lord 2, Dark God by TC Southwell - T. C. Southwell was born in Sri Lanka and moved to the Seychelles when she was a baby. She spent her formative years exploring the islands – mostly alone. Naturally, her imagination flourished and she developed a keen love of other worlds. The family travelled through Europe and Africa and, after the death of her father, settled in South Africa. T. C. Southwell has written over thirty novels, ranging from fantasy and science fiction to romance and adventure, as well as five screenplays. Her hobbies include motorcycling, horse riding and art, and she is now a full-time writer.
