Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers
- Keeping Secrets by Rita Durrett - Rita Durrett is an emerging new author. Over 35 years in the field of education have given Mrs. Durrett insight and knowledge about American families, their inner turmoil, instability, and resilient structure. Living in the mid-west has exposed Rita to individuals as unique and inspirational as the land where they live. Bits and pieces of each of these myriad of personalities help her to create memorable characters that come alive on the page and grab at your heartstrings.
Rita is a mother of two sons and grandmother to four young boys. She belongs to a cat named Mousey and has two big attack dogs that might lick an intruder to death, but she admits, wouldn’t bite unless someone was getting between them and their food.
- The Hostage by Calvin Hecht - Calvin Hecht was born in Illinois and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also lived ten years in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and among the Navajo and the Tewa for a time.
An accomplished and award-winning fine art artist in oils, specializing in Southwestern landscapes and depictions of Native Americans, Hecht turned his considerable talents to creative writing a few years ago.
Since then, he has published four e-books: "Cat & Mouse," a fictional tale of marital infidelity and revenge; "Rapture," a non-fiction work that explores the Christian concept of the rapture; "Encounters," a fictional tale of two teenage young men who have a number of exciting and life-changing encounters while camping in the New Mexico wilderness, and "The Hostage," a fiction suspense novella, featuring four terrorists, an Arizona ranching family, their beautiful daughter, and a handsome Border Patrol agent..
- Dangerous Pride - Eve Cameron has been an avid reader of fiction since the age of 10. Her love of the written word is steadfast, undaunted by the over-zealous librarian who thought it improper for a girl to be reading Ellery Queen mysteries at such a tender age.
Thankfully, the librarian's tattling to her parents had little impact, and today Eve always has at least five books on the go. Her early love of crime fiction has expanded to include an interest in most any genre -- biographies, science fiction, romance, mysteries, history and the paranormal.
After reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series, Eve was immediately hooked on the historical romance genre. Dangerous Pride is her first foray into fiction, and reflects her love of the genre and the historical details she unearthed while researching her family's Scottish roots.
- VRANIGA PART 1: A CONNIVING SORT by Clint Gleason - Amazon has given me the opportunity to publish my stories and it's a dream come true. A few that have influenced me are Richard Matheson(I AM LEGEND was published in 1954 but could have easily been written yesterday. It’s brilliant and a thrilling read, a precursor to the vampire and zombie stories told today and I highly recommend it if you’re a fan of science fiction and horror), Orson Scott Card’s ENDER’S GAME(probably the best science fiction book I've ever read), Stephen King’s THE MIST(One of my favorites from him. King has a terrific instinct for human behavior and it's apparent in this story), and then there’s James Cameron’s film masterpiece ALIENS, which floored me so much when I saw it when I was 12 that I think it re-wired my brain.
My stories are action-oriented, mature, violent, and suspenseful in tone. I'd analogously describe them as an “airplane read” due to length and not for young readers due to profanity and violence. I learned long ago that the only way for me to be at my best is to not hold back, like others I admire.
If you choose to leave a review, please mention what worked or if something didn’t. I want to get better. Thanks for reading.
- Weight Loss Motivation: 20 Common Mistakes That Are Keeping You Fat - Hi, I'm Carlen! I'm a whole food diet expert and holistic nutrition student. I lost 25 pounds by changing my diet and healed many chronic ailments.
I wrote my first "book" at age twelve and I've been addicted ever since. I studied Professional Writing in colleg and then studied nutrition. Writing has always been a passion of mine, I just didn't know I wanted to write about nutrition and health!
In my spare time I like to read, go for bike rides, watch movies, and hang out with my family and their four cats.
- THE GIRL FROM LONG GUYLAND by Lara Reznik - Lara Reznik, a native New Yorker, attended college at the University of New Mexico. As an English major, Lara studied under esteemed authors Rudolfo Anaya and the late Tony Hillerman, and attended a summer program at the prestigious Iowa Writers Workshop. Ambidextrous from birth, she preferred her right-brained creative side, but discovered she could make a better living with her left-brain skills, so entered the I.T. field in 1985. Lara published her first novel, The Girl From Long Guyland in November 2012. The novel ranked #1 during its recent Kindle promotion and has over 80,000 Kindle downloads.
In addition to her novels, Lara has written and optioned three screenplays that have garnered semifinalist and finalist wins in the Austin Heart of Film, Southwest Writers, TV Writer, Chesterfield and Writer's Digest contests. Currently, Lara is working on a new novel based on her screenplay, The M&M Boys.
