A lot of things can kill you in the Louisiana swamps, not the least of which are water moccasins, alligators, and maybe even something unworldly called a Rougarou. But as the body count rises in this jambalaya mystery, it becomes apparent that the increasing death toll is mostly due to some very bad villains and some very tough law enforcers.

Kristi is a young college graduate from West Texas recently hired and trained by the Treasury Department. While on the hunt for two of her colleagues, she manages to get herself assaulted and lost in the Atchafalaya Basin. Hawk is an ex-military combat vet now working for the United States Ranger Services. He’s asked by his old friend, the Parish Sheriff, to try to find Kristi. What he finds is not only the woman he’s looking for but also a hell of a lot of trouble. Together, Hawk and Kristi wind up in the middle of ruffians, counterfeiters, financial scalawags, and murderers. As they try to figure out what’s happening and why, while continually staying one step ahead of assassins, they begin to form a bond of respect, friendship, and perhaps even more.

Author Riley does a first-rate job of steeping the reader in the milieu of South Louisiana and Cajun mores. From murders at mudbug fests to menacing mosquito swarms to monumentally malevolent snake pits, he puts the heat and humidly on every page. He’s also adept at weaving a spider-webbed plot that is both intricate and credible. There’s action, suspense, humor, and even a dash of romance in this gumbo of a novel that promises to start a series of adventures for Kristi and Hawk.

The Northerners essentially dug in, starved out, and bombarded the Southerners for the most coveted prize of the Mississippi River—the strategic node of Vicksburg. Once the Bluecoats were victorious and the Stars and Stripes flew above the town, it was not long before the Union controlled the entire waterway, which was the lifeblood of the Confederacy, as they used it to move soldiers, food, and supplies across their territories. When the federal government gained Vicksburg, they split the Confederacy in two, breaking its backbone between the Trans-Mississippi and Western Theaters.

Gingcos are very long-lived with a life span greater than 30000 years; thus, his internment of 5000 years was a small but significant fraction of his life. John Sum Lang was young, 13 going on 14, and very smart with an IQ of 193. He was working on his third Ph.D. (Chemistry) at Caltech. His other two were in Biophysics and Physics. Like many young men of his age, he had difficulty concentrating on his studies because of a sex-induced attention deficit. Today he had tried meditation to allow concentration on his thesis. Arriving in the Santa Monica Mountains, the antics of a pigeon distracted him. He saw the pigeon captured, and his curiosity piqued, damaged a bird capture device placed there by Pataxis. I can’t promise to be an expert at real estate because it is a consent learning game and the cards are always changing, but I do put forth all my effort and want to share this knowledge with anyone wanting to learn. In my opinion you need more than one way to produce an income so that your money can in turn work for you. This way you can enjoy the life you are working so hard to create. I have a beautiful wife and 3 boys that enjoy life to the fullest everyday. This means for me that I have to work hard to provide, but I don’t want to sacrifice my time with them. So everything we do its as a family. The Williams family Hustle! I have a little game I play when they ask for something new. I figure out a way to pay for it without using the funds in my account. It can be interesting to see what we can come up with. From Lemonade stands to the boys finding a yard or 2 to mow, but the bigger things are where I turn to investing or finding a side hustle that we can do together. You’ll never be broke if you have a good work ethic and motivation. Nothing will push you more than the fire within you.

Errol Douse went to prison for slashing up Shorty Paul. In prison he met a young Don, Bobby Deacon. He was there for trying to extort two Chinese businessmen. Douse is a known gunman. Shadow had agreed to help him fight off his attackers, but pulled out his forces at the last moment leaving him exposed on several fronts. He lost several fighters and has to seek refuge in safe houses in the rural areas. In the meantime, Douse is out of prison, but has lost contact with Bobby Deacon. Shorty Paul is also out of prison and Digger Lobban, a hit man is back home. Coltrane recruited Digger to find and destroy Bobby Deacon. The heat is turned up on Douse as both Shorty aul and Digger begin hunting him as a link to Bobby Deacon. He has to give up the taxi he was operating and go and join the Bobby Deacon’s forces. Bobby Deacon has in the meantime been building up his forces for a push on Coltrane ant to take his revenge on Shadow for his treachery.
