I have gone through many phases, from being a naïve child being sheltered by my parents to diving into the world alone and swimming through all its shades, white, black, grey, orange etc.

Somewhere along the way, I took up the mantle from my parents of ‘never saying die’ attitude and being magnanimous and proud at the same time, formed many lifelong friends, been in love passionately as well as felt the bitter taste of heartbreak, been in poverty as well as experienced the excess of wealth and also the perils of a fragile health and the ecstasy of being in presence of an enlightened mind.

There is always a saying that, whatever we give out to the world, it comes back to us in many ways. Hence, this book is my endeavor to give out a little positivity to the world.

About Warriors and Monks: Pons, Abbot of Cluny

Pons, born to a noble family in the south of France in 1075, is given to the Saint Pons Monastery at the age of four by his father. His parents never visit him, and this embitters his feeling towards his family. As a Benedictine monk he thrives in the monastery as a devotee of the Order’s rules, working, praying, and studying.
Reaching adulthood, he falls in love with Primavera, a woman in the nearby village, but the Church’s renewed enforcement of celibacy endangers their relationship.
He excels in his role managing the library and supervising the scribes at the monastery and is promoted to the largest Benedictine abbey at Cluny, France. He must travel across France to reach his new role. It is a lawless time when people of the land are threatened with violence as they cultivate their fields or journey on pilgrimage. Dave Blumenthal never intended to write his book, ‘The Cartoon Chronicles of Sandwich Bag Dad’.

He is not an author, unless you count the six-page ‘novel’ he handwrote at the tender age of 6. That book, which chronicled the life of an elephant named David, was a sell-out (the single copy was sold to his mum) and was critically acclaimed by both sets of Dave’s grandparents.

Dave is not a trained artist either. Drawing cartoons on his daughters’ lunch bags (under his moniker, ‘Sandwich Bag Dad’) is just a ritual he’s been engaged in since 2012, a nightly hobby that lets him combine his love of art with his passion for wordplay.
Dave is simply a father who loves using his dad jokes to make his kids smile and roll their eyes in equal measure.

Born in South Africa, Dave emigrated to Melbourne, Australia in the 1980s with his parents and three siblings. Although he intended to become a lawyer and spent many years at university lugging law books around in his satchel, Dave somehow ended up in the fast-paced world of investment banking and venture capital. Nowadays, he is the CFO of a modular building company, a job that lets him work with numbers whilst pretending to be a tough construction guy in his high visibility jacket, hard hat and safety boots.

Sandwich bag art is not Dave’s only crazy passion. He is also a reformed fitness fanatic, having competed in several long-course Ironman triathlons and marathons. Dave has a large collection of medals and Lycra to prove it.

I love reading novels that take me on a ride of wild emotions. Books have always been an escape for me, for a few hours i love to live the lives of characters i grow to cherish and admire. I’ve always had an active imagination and because of it I’ve lived in
my head more than i have been in the outside world. I’ve always imagined scene-rials and wondered how it would turn out in the end, and what kind of emotions it would invoke. I began writing down the many stories in my head in 2010 and it’s been a wonderful journey ever since.

Hello dear readers, my name is Olena. This project gave me the chance to fall in love with this beautiful and historical Italian city – that is Naples – and to understand better street art as a kind of urban culture. When I came here, as a tourist for a few days I didn’t realize all the beauty, diversity, and frenetic style of life. But if you live here for a while, you will definitely leave here a piece of your heart and take with you the magic spirit of the city. I was born in Kyiv and I was accustomed to snowy cold winters but I like appreciating my deep desire for freedom. I have come to Naples for studying and I have found here a second house, I have met nice people and discovered a passion for art, history, and adventures. In the beginning, I noticed my mind was changing because of a slightly chaotic life, different nationalities, and local people’s hospitality. Later I understood that everything here has its own and unique meaning, sometimes hidden. You can see it soon with your own eyes, the murals on the walls are something more than just paintings.

Naples is a city that has always generated contrasting feelings inside me. In my adolescence, it caused: chaos, disorder, delinquency, and the art of “getting by” clashed with my dreams of a peaceful life and in the pursuit of calm and relaxation. In the time (I am over 30), I have learned to appreciate it. Its history, culture, and folklore have revealed themselves more and more to my eyes and all its critical issues have been neglected. When I have grown up, I have understood that “beauty and art can save the world” and they can be considered nobler values than the city order. Today, I can’t succeed yet in being accustomed to art, history, traditions, and perfumes scattered in the alleys, squares, monuments, and people of Naples.

Probably it will not be my house for life, but I am sure about one thing: I am proud to be born here, to have spent some important phases and crucial stages of my life in this magnificent city.
