This book is a memoir of my practice as a sports agent from 1988 to 2006, when I represented professional football and basketball players. Oscar L Shoenfelt III. grew up in Shreveport, La. where he played football at Captain Shreve High School graduating in 1972. In 1976 Mr. Shoenfelt graduated with a B.A., summa cum laude, from Abilene Christian University as the “Outstanding History Student of 1976” compiling a 4.0 grade average in his major. He received his J. D. from LSU Law School graduating (Phi Kappa Phi) in 1979.

After graduating LSU, Mr. Shoenfelt practiced at the law firms of Adams and Reese (New Orleans) and Watson, Blanche, Wilson and Posner (Baton Rouge) as a defense attorney in medical malpractice and personal injury liability cases. Mr. Shoenfelt became associated with the law firm of Moore, Walters, and Shoenfelt in 1985, and became a trial attorney primarily representing patients in medical malpractice litigation. He began his own firm, The Shoenfelt Law Firm, in 1998 and continued his medical malpractice until this day. As a trial attorney Mr. Shoenfelt achieved the AV Preeminent Rating by the prestigious Martindale Hubbell.

While working as an attorney, Mr. Shoenfelt became a sports agent and represented numerous NFL and NBA players in contract negotiations and sports related legal proceedings. Mr. Shoenfelt was certified as a player agent by the NBPA (1990-2006) (2013-present) and the NFLPA (1988-2003) (2014-2015). He was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the LSU Law School teaching Sports Law from 2000 to 2015 and served on the Louisiana Boxing and Wrestling Commission from 2004 to 2008. Some of his former sports clients include NFL players Willie Williams and Rufus Porter and NBA players Ervin Johnson, Stanley Roberts, Darvin Ham, Mark Davis, Tim Breaux, and Damon Jones.

Mr. Shoenfelt has given numerous lectures and presentations in the fields of medical malpractice law and sports law. A jack of many trades, a master of none. An apt description of my life. From an apprenticeship to a computer network administrator and too many jobs and experiences in between. People have fascinated me since I was a youngster, and this was fed by my family moving from town to town for the first twenty years of my life. Having met individuals from all over the planet, it struck that we all, no matter from where we originate, have the same problems. These problems simply present themselves in different dress.

Having read books for nearly fifty years, this is the most profound of all. At the age of 22, it profoundly and completely changed how I viewed the world and everything in it. Especially people and conflict.

The Art of War became a portal to a deeper and instantly usable wisdom that made me more successful in everything I attempted. Already a prolific reader, the book provided a framework that increased my understanding books in psychology, business, history, sociology, sales, everything else I read. Simultaneously, these other modern books deepened my understanding of the Art of War. It was and is quite extraordinary. It was impossible for me to know just how infinitely applicable the wisdom of the book was, is and will always be.

Author Bio:
I’m from the UK but I now live in Spain. Both countries have had a huge influence on my life, so I wanted to include a little of both in my books.

Over the years, I’ve enjoyed so many happy holidays in Cornwall and Devon in the south-west of England, so I decided to use them as the main inspiration for my fictional coastal town setting. That said, as St. Eves only exists in my imagination, I’ve used a little creative licence here and there and added a few Spanish elements to it!

With regard to my protagonist, I didn’t have to look too far to find the inspiration for her. I’m an animal-loving, avid cook and I owned a marina-front café in a Spanish coastal town for six years. Charlotte Denver is also an animal-loving, avid cook, but she owns a marina-front café, in a UK coastal town, albeit a fictional one.

I love that cozy mysteries allow me to write about murder, villains, dastardly deeds and twisty plots without the need for gory details, excessive violence, sex or bad language. I also always try to bring a little romance and humour to the books and it’s important to me that each one has a happy ending, and everything’s wrapped up ready to go on to the next book with a clean slate.

Foreshadowing plays a big part in my stories, in that I try to leave clues which point to answers, which I hope will keep readers guessing and involved in solving the mystery as they go. I try not to make them too obvious, though – it wouldn’t be much fun for readers to have established the murderer and the motive long before the end of the book!
