THE LATE MR. CARY A 1920s Mystery by Michael Campeta

About THE LATE MR. CARY A 1920s Mystery by Michael Campeta

Of all times to travel to upstate New York, Megan Cary told herself as she hurried into Grand Central Station, it was at the height of a blizzard.
It is January 1928. Megan Cary, a young and stylish librarian, is on her way to the state library conference. On the train, Meg meets Janet Faraday who confides that she killed her son’s father six years earlier—and got away with it.
With her marriage crumbling, Meg can no longer tolerate her husband Adam’s moodiness and philandering. She harbored thoughts of divorce but murder?
During a family visit, Adam mysteriously dies. Meg finds a suicide note and the police want to quickly close the case. So does Adam’s mother Helen, the stern matriarch of the family. Skeptical that Adam would kill himself, Meg hires a private detective whose investigation ultimately unravels family secrets as a series of surprising deaths occur over two cold and snowy weeks in Albany.
Janet falls under a trolley and is killed. Yet a witness claims she saw someone push Janet to her death. Then comes the abrupt death of Helen’s maid. Soon after, a neighborhood busybody, who was present at the time of Adam’s death, falls down her cellar stairs and dies. Meg wonders if these deaths could somehow be related.
THE LATE MR. CARY is a classic mystery set in the stately home of an upper crust family in the 1920s, bringing the 1920s to life—amidst a parade of death!

Heavenly Flood – The Fascinating Astrological Origins of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood

About Heavenly Flood – The Fascinating Astrological Origins of Noah’s Ark and the Great Flood

Still considered as literal truth by many people around the world, the tale of the Biblical flood has been one of history’s most fascinating but controversial mysteries. However, new research into the story’s origin has taken a direction no one could have expected; an astronomical event during the 4th Millennium BCE in the skies above ancient Iraq. Communicated over the next several millennia by Mesopotamian kings and priests through metaphor and allegory, the impact of this event was to cause shockwaves in the ancient worldview, eventually finding expression in the development of biblical flood tale narrative. Now revealed to the public for the first time, S.H. Scholar invites you on a journey to uncover the astrological foundations that led to the development of this famous story and join the privileged ranks of those who are rediscovering this ancient secret.

Author Bio:
.H. Scholar’s interest in the ancient Near East started many decades ago on a rainy afternoon during a visit to the British Museum. Although only a child, the confrontation with the reality of an ancient world whose only trace was the objects they left behind was more than fascinating. For there was something about the sterile and academic context in which these objects now found themselves that veiled a deeper reality. Later he quickly became seduced by the idea that if one could reconnect with these earlier cultures without the bias (so far as it is possible) of modern judgments, then one might better be able to place our own modern culture within a wider context.

In the subsequent decades, he spent many thousands of hours researching and translating ancient texts attempting to reveal and understand how ancient minds saw and expressed their understanding of the cosmos around them. Eventually he took a special interest in researching the various Mesopotamian clay Flood Tablets that have been and continue to be discovered, focusing on understanding them within the historical context of the Mesopotamian religion and world view in which they were written.

With determination, a map, and a homestead deed, she boarded a train for the Idaho Territory. Would the destruction caused by bears, wolves, and cougars, to her sheep and home, defeat her? Would the rocky plot of land, which she could not sink a plow into, thwart her efforts? Would her tortured past destroy her future? Would the physical effects Two Feathers caused to her body, fog her mind? Not if she could prevent it. From now on, everyone would abide by Zari’s decision.

Name: Holly Dixon
Age: 27
Country of residency: Scotland
Bio: From a young age, I adored creative writing and it was always something my mother encouraged me to do. I remember sitting in my room typing up stories on a desktop, that I wouldn’t be surprised, was from the 90s by how slow it ran!
Growing up, I only ever read romance and I read absolutely everything I could get my hands on.
Naturally, of course, life got in the way and writing was something I never thought of as a career and more of a hobby. I never wrote again until late 2019 where I started writing stories on Wattpad, a website that allows aspiring writers to publish their work and generate social community. It was through Wattpad, Twitter and Instagram that I met lots of wonderful people in the writing community that encouraged me to get my work out there and self-publish. When I had so many people telling me how much they loved my writing, it gave me a surge of motivation to turn something I love into my career.
When the COVID pandemic put the UK into lockdown in March 2020, I had so much time to write and found it addictive, cramming in bits of writing anytime of the day or night. However, it wasn’t until December 2020 that I started to get serious about self-publishing and did lots of research before planning out Illicit Affairs. It took me four months to complete my first draft and is by far the funnest thing I’ve ever written!
I’m so grateful for all of the support my friends, family and fanbase have given me so far. It’s because of them that I managed to stay motivated during the hardest years of my life with the pandemic happening around me. I can’t wait for everyone to read Illicit Affairs and look forward to chatting with them on my socials!

The Reality of the Mind – Origin, Flaws, and Wisdom by Lin Ward

The Reality of the Mind – Origin, Flaws, and Wisdom by Lin Ward

The greatest scientific enigma, the cause of endless futile struggles, frustrations, and confusions, is resolved herein. Its conventional presentation as “mind-body problem” hides the true scope of this matter — a fundamental misconception is preventing the solution, and a reorientation is required to resolve it.
It might be difficult to admit, but a mind that is created by biological processes (in the brain) must embody flaws (biases), while those same flaws also affect scientific research. Hence, there is a need for a different approach, one which detects these biases and relates to them as part of the explanation. In this manner, the proper solution was formulated — it is coherent, comprehensive, and supported by basic physics and neuroscience.
This endeavor’s primary goal was the integration of all relevant fields and aspects by showing their overlap and adding the required elements for this aim — a constructional approach that has proved itself in endless engineering projects, and it also makes the difference regarding the solution of this scientific problem. It is simple, consistent, and powerful — leading to the true, uniform, and unified solution, that is shown herein.

Lin Ward has extensive experience in engineering, and informal education in psychology, Buddhism, and neuroscience. She has the unique talent to simplify things, focus on the essence, and present clearly even topics that seem too complex. By using the engineering approach, she manages to show the precise reasons for the inability of science to solve the body-mind problem. They are very simple, yet it requires a reorientation to solve this matter. Lin has the courage and integrity to question the basics and present her conclusions openly; whereas most people, including scientists, wouldn’t dare to do so, no matter how simple and logical it is. If you have the willingness to verify the foundations, Lin will guide you on this tricky path.

Torren’an by Molly Leasure

About Torren’an by Molly Leasure

Like all Torrens, Heirath Halis was born as two entities: a human and a symbiote. Now he just wants to be left alone—left human. He—like all those that meet a Torren for the first time—believes in one simple assertion:

All Torrens are monsters.

Natia Grey has heard this statement repeated by her nation since she was young. But she has never believed it is that simple. After falling in love with the Prince of Torren’an, Heirath, she has come to her own conclusion: the “monstrous” Torrens just need help. And Natia wants nothing more than to help Heirath and his people.

Heirath’s decision to travel to have his symbiote removed puts him in opposition with his brother and Torren’an. In the aftermath of an encounter with his people, Heirath is left vulnerable to Natia’s nation, who capture and brutally torture him. The torture only causes his symbiote to gain more control over their body resulting in them both taking an irreversible step towards being the monster Natia’s nation so fears.

Blaming her nation for Heirath’s condition, Natia and her family try to escape with him. Because he is not a monster, and he never will be. She won’t allow him to be. But as Heirath continues to lose control Natia faces a difficult decision: keeping him at her side or letting him go.

Stranger on the Island by Jonathan Ross

About Stranger on the Island by Jonathan Ross

Ex-Marine Richard Drake treasures his laid-back life on St. Mark, smallest of the US Virgin Islands. To make ends meet, he works as a charter boat captain and provides security for a high-profile client. To nourish his soul, he spends lots of time with enchanting Sophie Cooper. Once, when she sought safe haven, Richard saved her life. Then she stole his heart. Now they fill each other’s lives, hand in hand by day and even closer during tropical nights.

But Sophie has a problem. Her morning trek through the tranquil beauty of St. Mark’s rainforest turned horribly wrong when a knife-wielding stranger attacked her. Richard vows to find the scoundrel and deliver him to justice.

Unfortunately, Richard’s odds of success appear slim. Sure, he was Force Recon, but that was in arid Afghan mountains, not a claustrophobic rainforest. How to find his way in such an environment, much less locate and track the stranger, is a conundrum. Worse, the attacker demonstrates combat skills that point to special operations training, making him a lethal foe. Worst of all, to search for the intruder is to leave Sophie unguarded.

Jonathan Ross spent his boyhood summers in the countryside of St. Thomas, when the island residents lived much like folks on St. Mark – without electricity, catching rain for their water, and relying on Tortola sloops to ferry people, livestock, and small cars from island to island. He saw charcoal being made the old way, climbed rocks along the rough coast, stepped on sea urchins, and watched shooting stars on dark Caribbean nights. Years later, after service in the Navy, he laid his mother to rest in the Caribbean Sea outside of St. Thomas Harbor.

Carrie Anne’s World: An Odyssey through Space and Time

About Carrie Anne’s World: An Odyssey through Space and Time

Mike O’Keefe arrives on the paradise island of Koh Tao only to be caught up in a terrorist attack by a radical environmental group. In a recurring dream, he encounters a mysterious young girl on a beach who cannot remember her past. She writes a message in the sand, 6 = 3, and begs him to help her find the “Saelak”. Dismissing the experience as the product of a fevered imagination, he settles into life on the island. But when the environmental threat ramps up and elements of his dream world begin bleeding into reality, Mike is propelled on a journey across time and space that must end in the destruction or salvation of Humanity.

“Mark Whiteway’s newest novel, Carrie Anne’s World, is a mesmerizing story of love, humanity, and hope in the face of extinction.

“While the science fiction elements of the story make it an engaging and sensational read, the questions it brings up about the consequences of global warming are relevant and important. These stakes give the story a powerful and thought-provoking layer that left me thinking about the story even after I had closed the book.” Emerson Craig – Literary Blogger
“ Carrie Anne is an enigma; despite her clear lack of awareness or knowledge of her own history or the world, she is one of the most intriguing characters that I have ever come across. The mystery surrounding her is one that truly captivates the reader, as you not only want to know her story, but you want to know the world she inhabits.

“Carrie Anne’s World is a novel that presents the world in uproar. However, as the reader delves through the pages of this complex narrative, it becomes much clearer that this is a novel that pushes the boundaries of science fiction. Whiteway intertwines science fiction with a psychological mystery that the reader can’t help but want to unravel, paired with an entirely unexpected conclusion that is deeply satisfying.” – Hannah Tindale BA Hons English Literature

“Mark Whiteway took some great influences, brought his personal touch and created a unique and fascinating story. This is his best yet.” – Elia Mihuta, Content Writer

“Stemming on his earlier success, Mark Whiteway brings, in Carrie Anne’s World, a rollicking adventure with breathtaking scope. Few authors cover so much territory so deftly, and once again Mark weaves together a story that spans multiple timelines and planets without losing its sense of pace or scale.

“Mark Whiteway’s writing zings with pointed reminders of modern perils, yet sings with such timeless adventure that such reminders are well-received; a spoonful of sweeping thrills to help the moral lesson go down more easily. And as with his other novels, Mark Whiteway’s Carrie Anne’s World won’t let you put it down. Join in the adventure of a thrilling eco-fable in Carrie Anne’s World!” – Aaron Walker Ph.D.

“When Mike’s dreams start leaking into reality, he finds himself plunged into crises on two worlds. Will he be able to save his friends, past and present, or will two worlds and three species be doomed to destruction? The creative premise and vividly imagined setting of Carrie Anne’s World are sure to please!” Irene S., Proofreader, Red Adept Editing

“Mike O’Keefe’s summer internship with an environmental study group in tropical Thailand does not go as expected. After narrowly escaping a terrorist attack at the airport, he begins to have strange dreams of a cryptic young girl who holds the key to saving humanity from destruction. Reality and dreams weave together in this fantastic science fiction story about friendship, environmental conservation, and multidimensional travel through time and space.” Brittany M., Proofreader, Red Adept Editing

“Mark Whiteway is a gifted storyteller who knows how to take his readers to an amazing new world”, one where “the technology is every bit as credible as it is fantastic”. So say critics and hundreds of verified independent reviewers about the relatively new, yet stellar sci-fi author writing out of rural West Sussex, England (near the former home of H.G. Wells, on a side note).

Author of the critically-acclaimed ‘Lodestone Series’, Mark Whiteway has enchanted fans over his 6-part epic, with his “gifts going far beyond creating alien landscapes and imaginative technology. His complex characters and rich plots continue to fascinate long after the properties of lodestone have settled into the background.”

“Writing SciFi has been a long held ambition of mine. As a kid, I read everything – H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Robert Heinlein, etc., etc. At twelve years old, I wrote a novella. (I still have it, hand-written in a huge ledger). It was about our sun going nova, and the resulting breakdown of society, as told through the eyes of three boys. It had a pretty surreal ending.”

“Following that, life intervened, and it was only in April ’09 that I determined that I wanted to get back to writing. I had had several ideas running around in my head for some time, of which the Lodestone concept was probably the strongest. As I began to develop the story, it rapidly became clear that there was no way I was going to be able to cover it all in a single book, and so the Lodestone Series was born.

“The first trilogy was quite well received, which led to a second trilogy in the Lodestone universe and I then branched out into a new story which became The Arc of the Universe quartet of books. “Lockdown” enabled me to complete the epic Carrie Anne’s World and to start my next project. And on we go!”

If you are serious and can apply simple instructions, you can become a high-paid IT consultant in your dream job by the end of the month–and avoid landing a job from hell with nasty clients and coworkers, long hours, and lousy pay.

Some of Eetu’s non-literary achievements include flying an unpowered glider up to 22 000 ft (in winter), co-founding a craft brewery (that is still providing great brews), and appearing on Japanese TV (in a clip about the Finnish sauna). He is a father of two and is passionate about science fiction, investing, and a few selected sports. He has spent way too much time in the university, earning his MSc in economics and a PhD for his work on Enterprise Architecture.

Showing Off The Goods

About Showing Off The Goods

My guy best friend needs a best man, and he’s asking me—a girl.
Not that I’m surprised. We’ve been inseparable since birth. Who else was he going to ask.
Juggling this wedding and being a single mom is going to be a feat.
But I got this.
All is rolling smoothly until my friends shake up another tradition.
Seems the bride is asking a guy to be her maid of honor.
And not just any guy either. Her brother. My ex.
Unfortunately, this guy is hot as hell.
He’s also a demon that crawled right out of those fiery pits. The same pits he sent our relationship to when he chose the military over me.
Now he’s back.
As an underwear model, no less.
How in the world they expect us to work together is beyond me.
But for them, I’d do just about anything.
Even jack up my perfect life that took me years to put back together.
I’m immune to this jerk now. I’m not letting him back in.
All I have to do is work with him for one month. One month to keep my legs shut, my pants up, and my eyes and hands to myself. It’ll be easy, right?
Unless he shows off the goods.
Then I’m in trouble.

Through My Eyes: Humanity’s Unwitting Downfall

About Through My Eyes: Humanity’s Unwitting Downfall

A speculative dystopian novella in the tradition of George Orwell’s 1984 and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, Through My Eyes is a thought-provoking, high-concept dive into human nature in three acts.

FREE from 21/04 to 23/04

Have you ever wanted to see the world through someone else’s eyes?

Now you can. The Empathy Machine made it possible. It made a dream become reality, but cast humanity into a nightmare as a result.

Harold has been warning the public for decades. A young scientist turned doomsayer, he saw how the Machine caused a crippling addiction into anyone who used them. And the danger is hidden under the guise of the world’s most sought-out virtue — empathy.

The Empathy Machine is a neuroscientific milestone. It allows an Observer to see the world through the eyes of their Source. They experience the world through others’ senses and emotions—feeling what the other feels and forgetting themselves in the process.

For the first time in history, you can literally walk in someone else’s shoes. This resolves all the disputes mankind has been unable to resolve up to that point. But what’s left of the Observer is just the shell of a human being. Nothing will make them want to get out of the machine. Once you’re in, there’s no way out.

For die-hard Observer, Ryan, every day is an adventure. Through his Source, Alan, he is able to live the life of a fearless vigilante. But somewhere along the way, Ryan meets another Source, N, who unwittingly shows him just how sinister the Empathy Machines can be.
