Linda Conlon
I am the first born child of a baker and a housewife and I think it’s very much due to my parents’ loving, accepting natures that my life has always been happy and straightforward. Born in 1973 in Brisbane, I became a teacher – my life never straying far from the institution of education.
As a child, I was a voracious reader. Whether I was on one of our numerous family holidays, travelling to my younger brother’s incessant sporting events or just lazing around at home, I was reading. It was a running joke in our family, that I never had my nose out of a book. My parents eventually learned not to pester me about the life I was ‘missing’ beyond those beloved pages; I didn’t care. I was living hundreds of lives vicariously.
When I met Delia, that changed. She opened the world of writing for me and I experienced for the first time the wonder of creating, rather than just experiencing.
In everyday life, I am encouraged by many wonderful friends, my brother and my father, but no-one is a greater champion for me than David, the man I live with and the love of my life. Although he mourns the loss of our online gaming time together, his encouragement and enthusiasm for my writing is boundless. Of course, being a full time teacher makes it difficult to devote as much time to it as I’d like, but wordcrafting is my passion.
Now, I don’t read nearly as much as I write and I’m very much looking forward to publishing the stories Delia and I began together as seventeen year old ingénues. It’s time we told them to someone besides each other.

I was born in Auckland, New Zealand in 1973 and arrived in Brisbane in 1987. The amount of books I’d had to leave behind appalled me. I’d always been a reader, but when I was ten I made friends with a girl who loved to write stories. Once I discovered writing I couldn’t stop.
In reading I gravitated to stories of peculiar places and happenings and my writing hasn’t strayed from that. I was always a fan of fantasy; I preferred to read about a genie popping out of a toothpaste tube than stories that mirrored real life. They captured my imagination and revealed multiple possibilities. There were no constraints on fantasy – anything I thought up was achievable.
In high school I met Linda, who became my closest friend in life. My enthusiasm for writing stories together led to us beginning awful horror novel together but after a few weeks (or maybe months?) of that, I had a better idea. We started planning and writing a fantasy instead, about Wanderers.
In the middle of writing with Linda, I’d written a handful of short stories and sent them off to magazines and short story collections. Most of them were accepted and published, giving me the acknowledgement I needed from people in the industry.
In 2013 I wrote a science fantasy called Femme – a world I’d borrowed out of the Wanderer books that I was writing with Linda. During National Novel Writing Month (affectionately known as NaNoWriMo), I got the bulk of it out and I finished it on Christmas Eve. I published it in May 2014 after many rewrites and edits. It’s a soft-hearted story, I would call it light entertainment.
In my private life I’m married and have a daughter. I have two cats who love to come for cuddles when I’m sleeping, writing or about to get up.

My name’s Dan Hardy and first off I LOVE reading. If there’s one thing my family taught me at a young age it was the sheer value and joy one can get from reading a book.
I know.. I know. I wrote a business book, so all I must read are business books right?

Well I had the fortune to get a really good gig out of University. It was in a Product Management position at a hot Startup in London.
The kind of job my peers would have killed for.
Eager and ambitious I was ready to forge my name into the stars. To not only deliver on the project, but really exceed everyone’s expectations. To show my own manager that they were right to take a chance on me.
However 3 months later, I was a nervous wreck.
No matter what I tried, I just couldn’t get my team to trust me. I couldn’t motivate them.
Not only was my job on the line, but self doubt was starting to creep in. How could I think such a young person like me could do this job? Where did that arrogance come from?
Faced with this problem, and creeping self doubt, I did the one thing I was good at: I researched the hell out of the problem. I devoured tonnes of information, read more books than I can count, and used my alumni access to download the latest Social Science papers.
Slowly I found that what I was doing was wrong. I found a third way to motivate my team. I started to use the strategies I’d read about. Some worked, and some didn’t.
After a few weeks however my team’s performance started to improve. 2 months later my manager commented on our performance and I knew my job was saved.
This happened over a year ago. I’ve since left and started my own business, but this is the book I wish I’d had when I started out.

The young princess must make a decision that could cost many of those under her control the loss of financial prosperity and choose between the lives of her people or their livelihood. Here’s the bottom line… I love to laugh, I love to drink and I love to eat.
I also love writing.
As a child I had stories going through my head. It took me a long time to realise I should write them down, therefore clearing my mind. Little did I know another one would pop up!
I wanted to be painter since I was a child. I was told, while being assessed at the end of my art foundation, I should go into drama or be a stand-up comedian. I’m short, so even if I did ‘stand up’ it’d be hard to see me and I realise that was their way of telling me I was rubbish at art.
I’ve worked in various jobs and I have been extremely lucky to do what I wanted to do… though I have a habit of changing my mind every so often.
If you want something, go for it. The only thing holding you back is you. You only have one life so don’t say ‘if only’ say ‘well at least I tried’.
Writing, like anything creative, is an exposure. Not everyone likes what you write, what you say or what you think… but some people do. That’s my focus. On the people who like what you write… what I write.

Meggan Haller’s first writing credit, at six years old, was a story called “Wooden Bread” about a woman so poor she had to feed her children bread made from a tree. After an exhaustive round of querying, Haller decided to self-publish the story on her sister’s Petite 990 typewriter and laminate it with cellophane tape. Today, her self-published stories are tape-free.
Haller’s most cherished accomplishments are not the kind you put on a resume. She photographed Ray Allen’s first hole in one (he’s a basketball player, not a golfer). She’s a member of the Goodyear Blimp Club (you have to ride the Blimp to join the club). She won $4,444 on “Let’s Make A Deal” wearing her mother’s wedding dress (circa 1972). She canoed across the Everglades, walked across Spain, and on her honeymoon, she hiked Longs Peak. Anything else she tells you she’s done is a lie, which is why she enjoys fiction writing.

When she was 19, she moved between The Hague, Salzburg (Austria), Brussels (Belgium) and Cambridge (UK) to complete her studies in intercultural communication. She is currently a teacher of English, career counsellor and teenage coach at a secondary school in Voorburg, Holland. She tries to read at least 100 books a year (and write a few, too!). She is a published author in her own country, and translates her own books from Dutch into English for self-publication.
