Although they feature a teenage heroine and contain no cursing, explicit sex, or violence, they are not really YA stories. The heroine, a young girl with special and even heroic gifts, is mostly seen through eyes of the adults around her.
I wrote the stories because I figured there are enough “teenager with special powers saves the world” stories out there.
Summary
The year is 2199; the place, the Reunited States. Kedzie Greer grew up in paradise: a small lakeside community with utopian ideals. But on turning sixteen — the age of legal adulthood in 2199 — Kedzie decides she has had enough of paradise.

Sweeping in an immense arc across South Asia is the “Top-of-the-World,” the Great Himalayan Range. Beginning with Kashmir’s 26,600 foot Naga Parbat and ending at Tibet’s 25,445 foot Namcha Barwa, it comprises an uninterrupted 1,500 mile long stretch of mountains with over 110 peaks rising to elevations of 24,000 feet or more. For thousands of years, the largely inaccessible inner portion of this vast wilderness has been known in esoteric literature as the Great White Island, and has inspired countless myths and legends.
In a secluded part of that inner range, some 40 years ago, the author chanced upon a valley nestled deep in that vast wilderness. In that isolated valley he encountered a small village called Siddhalaya, a village so exceedingly remote that it does not appear on extant maps. This discovery marked the beginning of a series of remarkable adventures and experiences.
The village of Siddhalaya is ancient and profoundly beautiful. Set in a valley encircled by Himalayan ice peaks so high as to appear nearly overhead, and surrounded by vast snowfields that roll upward from evergreen forest to immense blue-white glaciers, it is strikingly surreal. The Nepalese call one of the massive peaks Samgarmatha, which can be translated as “Goddess of the Universe.”
Soon after arriving, the author realized that, a bit like Columbus or Marco Polo, he had discovered a world far stranger and far more portentous than he had ever expected or imagined. In Siddhalaya he had the privilege of meeting a number of extraordinary men and women—introduced to him as “masters” and “adepts”—possessed of a knowledge and a power virtually unknown in the Western world. Hawking spent over five years there, with the most superb people, and encountered many expressly rare and extraordinary experiences.

Kristy K. James’ first goal in life was to work in law enforcement, until the night she called the police to check out a scary noise in her yard. My hobbies include watching pet rescue videos on YouTube, traveling around Michigan to find interesting places I’ve never been, and a new one that I didn’t really want. After finding out that I can’t have gluten (wheat) anymore, I started on a quest to replace favorite foods with options that won’t make it hard for me to breathe. Trying new products and tweaking recipes I find online, I’ve managed to do exactly that. For many things anyway.
You have to know I love to read, and I enjoy watching romantic movies, comedies, action/adventure (think Iron Man and Captain America), non-scary vampire flicks, and one zombie movie – the ‘cut’ version of World War Z. I made the mistake of choosing the uncut version on Netflix once. That was the day I learned there was a choice.
I’m not sure what else to say because I live a pretty normal life. Well, except for the fact that we have a few more pets than most people do. I just can’t bear the thought of shelter animals being put to sleep just because they don’t have a home.

Probably like everyone reading this, I have loved to read my entire life. I can’t even remember not being able to read. I always have a book in my possession. One summer, when I was about 10, there was a contest at my local library where I hung out. The child who read the most books got to meet an astronaut and have a picture taken. Of course, I won or I wouldn’t be telling this story. I can still remember that I had read over thirty books and the nearest competitor was around ten. Somewhere I still have that picture.After working over 46 years, I have acquired a list of jobs a mile long: A store clerk, a bank teller, a mother, a DJ, a bookkeeper, a project manager, an artist and more. I have 2 children and 5 grandchildren.
Besides reading, I enjoy photography and drawing. I combined these hobbies and began writing and illustrating stories starring my grandchildren. To my delight, they read them over and over. Their parents aren’t quite as overjoyed as they have to read them constantly, too.
My grandchildren’s enjoyment of these books encouraged me to pursue a writing career late in life. When I finally retired from my other jobs, I promptly began writing children’s books in earnest.
