I have a confession to make.When I was at school, I used to hate history class. I used to dread the days when I had to sit through it. As the teacher droned on and on, spouting off dates and events, I would chew my pencil and daydream about my next adventure story (this is what I used to read and write every spare minute of the day).
As soon as I could drop the subject, I gladly did, tossing my books in the trash with a huge sigh of relief—I’d never have to read another boring history book in my life again.
So how on earth did I end up as the author of a series of children’s books about my most-hated subject?
When I had to delve into my Chinese roots for a family reunion, I stumbled on the most amazing stories about the emperors, warriors, artists, and inventors that make up the long and colorful history of China.
I realized then that history doesn’t have to be about boring facts and dates. It can be as exciting, gripping, and fascinating as the best made-up adventure stories. I realized that in the very word ‘history’ sits the word I’ve always loved: ‘story’.
Inspired, I decided to bring those stories from Chinese history to life. No dates, no dry details—just interesting stories that children as young as five can enjoy and hopefully, learn a fact or two in the process.
My greatest wish is that children and adults alike will have as much fun reading my books as much as I’ve had writing them.

Exploring the bounds of musical compositions, traveling, friendship, love, exploring terrain no man has gone before, sailing as far as you can out into the endless ocean… there are endless opportunities this world provides. All you have to do is follow your heart and create your own “adventure of a lifetime.”
If you haven’t noticed, I sincerely appreciate life. And as a result, I like to do everything I can to foster a great and healthy lifestyle. I enjoy taking care of my body, maintaining a healthy mindset and looking good. As my head begins to drop, not wanting to look at myself, his free hand grasps my chin, forcing it upward with suppressed violence. “Look at yourself” he commands, but as I look up, my stare catches his resplendent features, his eyes bore into mine, filled with determination. “Look at yourself” he commands again and moves his hand, sweeping my long inky hair to one side and then running his fingertips from my temple ever so slowly down my cheek, gliding over my pulsing carotid artery. His hand moves again to my temple and his breath tickles my ear as he rasps softly. “Your eyes are the color of twilight signaling the end of a busy day while smoldering with the promise of a tumultuous and passionate night. His thumb caresses my cheeks. “They are so soft, yet burn with an inexperience that calls to even the hungriest part of a man to be gentle and loving. His thumb glides across my lips. “They are pale but lush and filled with the promise of even a tender caress igniting a man’s passion, desire, a want that only your kiss could satisfy.” My eyes tear from my lips and I glimpse the heat and lust in his eyes. His words ignite embers of desire within me that burst into flames. I want to turn, to take the lips of the man whose words are stacking boulders before the entrance of my cave of self-loathing and doubt, but his hold is unyielding. His free hand moves to the hem of my oversized sweatshirt as the hand around my waist picks at the other end, lifting it over my head. I am standing naked from the waist up as his arm once again circles my waist holding me tightly to his solid frame. I swallow hard as my cheeks turn crimson. I feel as if I will combust despite my lack of attire.
Nicholas’ free hand glides from my waist, up my torso caressing the side of my breast. “Perfect” He hums. “You should be in satins, your skin soft as silk. He nuzzles my neck and a lightning bolt of need rumbles through me. I turn breaking his hold, slipping my fingers under his t-shirt, my hands skim up his marble torso, around his strong back, stretching up, straining against his ribbed abdomen, lifting my lips, he bends and claims mine, soft at first, but growing insistent as my hands drop to his hem and I strain to pull up his shirt, to feel him against me. He leans his upper body away from me slightly allowing his shirt to rise, never breaking contact with my lips until he swiftly moves, removing his shirt and crushing me to his bare chest. The light smattering of his hair tickles my nipples. His hands grasp the back of my thighs, lifting me. Wrapping my legs around his lean waist, he moves backward and crawls slowly up the bed. Kneeling, his muscles ripple under my greedy hands as he pulls the duvet down while still holding me to him tightly. The cool sheets offer no relief to my inflamed body which craves only to be closer. His kiss is forceful. He parts my lips invading my mouth, feeding my starving desires, awakening the beast within me with the beast in him. Douglas Hirt was born in Illinois, but heeding Horace Greeley’s admonition to “Go west, young man”, he headed to New Mexico at eighteen. They’ve worked out that at one (very privileged!) stage in their lives, over a period of about ten years, the family spent more than 800 nights camping out on safaris, wilderness holidays, canoe adventures – and “riverside living” on a wild stretch of the Breede River in South Africa. Many times, jackals, lynx, black eagles, honey badgers, a variety of antelope, and otters were their only companions.
Peter’s paternal grandparents were members of the Pioneer column in 1896 to what was then Matabeleland, in Central Africa.
His grandfather was General Manager of a ranching company which owned large tracts of virgin bush in Southern Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe.
Some of his earliest childhood memories are of extended camping trips with his grandparents and his father, sleeping under the stars, shooting and fishing for the pot (in early Pioneer fashion) and generally enjoying the generous bounty of what was then an unspoilt wilderness.
Those early experiences left a taste for backwoods living and sections of a selection of books on this site are given over to “Campfire Grilling and Smoking” – and what can be done to grill, cook, smoke and preserve food in the bush without conventional equipment and accessories.
Later, in Peter’s teens, his father acquired a share in a large tract of virgin bush and riverine forest on the banks of the Dekka River, home to Africa’s “Big Five”, near the Hwange Game Reserve in North Matabeleland …. “where the wilderness got really upfront and personal!”.
“In the most rustic of bush smokehouses we learned to smoke big, green river bream from the Dekka, as well as the odd haunch of warthog or bush pig.”
Now, in their retirement, the “outdoors” for Peter and his family has largely moved to the backyard, and the equipment they use for grilling, barbecuing and smoking is “as commercial as it is rustic”. But the urge to experiment, to learn about and try different grilling, smoking and dry-curing methods and techniques, remains.

Born in rural Halifax County, North Carolina, and reared there until the age of eleven, Kasey was born the fourth of five children in her family and was academically gifted throughout her elementary school years in North Carolina.At age eleven, her family packed up and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she continued to shine academically in the Philadelphia school system. Being assigned an essay to complete in the eighth grade on a well known movie star she chose Lee Majors the then star of the hit 1970’s televison series, “The Bionic Man.” So impressed with the essay, her English teacher sat her down and tried to encourage her to pursue a career in journalism. Being young and not fully understanding what journalism entailed she had no interest in this course of study at that time, even though she constantly touched the hearts of people who surrounded her with her poetry and songwriting. She herself, never really took her writings seriously.
Kasey attended high school at Murrell Dobbins Area Vocational Technical High School, an opportunity not afforded to many because a student had to pass very complicated testing in order to be accepted.
She enrolled in the Community College of Philadelphia and graduated with an AAS Degree in Data Processing in the mid 1980’s and from there she attended Philadelphia College of Textiles and Sciences.
In 1990, Kasey moved her family back to North Carolina because she felt the city was no place to raise her children. She accepted a job with the County Department of Social Services as a Case Manager.
Her job brought her in contact with many different types of people and she found herself very sympathetic to her clientele, which consisted of elderly and disabled individuals, as well as persons who are mentally ill. She seemed to relate to them better than some, because of her experiences living the “city life.”
She often talked to a fellow worker about her experiences in Philadelphia and her co-worker encouraged her to write about her these situations.
Kasey is currently employed with the Department of Human Services and is accepted and respected by her co-workers and clients. She has completed her novel titled, “The Glass Door” which has been accepted by PublishAmerica and is scheduled to be released very soon. She is currently working on two more un-named manuscripts.

Darwin’s World is a parallel Earth at the end of the Pleistocene Epoch; humans did not survive on this Earth, some of the geology is slightly different, but otherwise it’s much the same as Earth Prime was at that time. Megafauna, including predators such as dire wolves and sabertooths, exist; only the primitive humans of the Clovis/Folsom and other cultures are absent.
Humanity of the 25th Century is dying; the most frequent cause is simply boredom, causing people to suicide. A few realize this and theorize that transplanting humans with an enhanced survival drive and the curiosity those later people have lost may reverse this trend. Accordingly, ancestral humans from the 20th/21st Century are harvested just prior to death and their bodies reformed using future medical science. Following this, they are transplanted to Darwin’s World to survive or perish. They’re given almost no tools, a knife and hatchet being the most common.
There are no laws, other than what people make themselves; no civilization, no one to enforce mores or laws other than people themselves.
A group/tribe has found a place to build a defensible village, Home. Two members have been captured by slavers. Matt, the principal character, determines to get them back. The slave-holding society is at least as advanced as his own, but nonetheless, he’s determined to start a revolution to stop the slave raids, while rescuing his tribal members. One is the son of Matt’s consort, Lilia.
This plays out while Home is being built; Matt determines that even if he cannot topple the slaveholding society, he can establish a buffer zone along the seaway which is a boundary between Home and the slavers.
A number of challenges are faced and overcome; the final chapter wraps up the series, and contains a reference that will make people think as well as shocking some.

Born in Edmonton, London in 1951, Robert spent several of his formative years living in Cornwall where he began to develop a lifelong love of nature and the rural way of life. He began writing in his early teens and much of his short romantic fiction was subsequently published in various national periodicals including “Secrets”, Red Letter” and “The People’s Friend”.
Never one to let the necessity of earning a living get in the way of his writing, Robert has continued to write whilst holding down a succession of jobs including Health Food Shop Manager, Typwriter Mechanic and Taxidermist- yes, you read that correctly.
His passion for the history of the early twentieth century is second only to his love of writing. It was whilst researching in this period that he came across the letters and diaries of some women who had lived through the trauma of the Great War. What he read in them inspired him to write his debut novel “Dance the Moon Down” and the rest, as they say, is history.
