Part One:

Elise Manfred is much looking forward to visiting Romania, together with her college friends. They have also chosen a specific destination for it: Bran Castle, located in Brasov city. They plan on visiting the birthplace of the most renowned legend: the legend of count Dracula.

Nobody knows or suspects the upcoming adventure they`ll face once they get there and Elise is yet to live the experience of her life. It all starts in the first night, after getting there. What is that strange noise Elise is hearing? Why does it seems to her that there`s somebody else with her, in her room, after she switched off the light? Whose crying voice is she hearing?

Eventually, she manages to fall asleep but with her heart racing. The next day she meets up her friends and to her own surprise, Elise discovers that all she heard in the night before was heard by her colleagues, too! So, it wasn`t only in her imagination! It happened for real!

They carry on with their day, visiting the surroundings, taking pictures and so on, until night time. After having dinner, Elise returns to her room and tries to get some sleep as she is tired. She barely closes her eyes and that noise is heard again! Elise is really afraid now! Her heart beat goes crazy, her mind is creating all kinds of scenarios! Are those steps she`s hearing on the carpet? Is that a person`s breath she`s sensing approaching her bed? Eventually, those steps are going away but Elise hears another noise – just as when somebody takes a seat on the couch. Elise takes a quick peak from under the blanket but what she sees widens her eyes: a ghost. The ghost of a English man, on his name, Hugh Portman.

Part Two:

Elise swore to help Hugh with finding the man who killed him. She goes to the police station and tells his story to the officers but unfortunately, it is not enough; they ask evidence for what she said. Disappointed, Elise goes back to her room hotel and Hugh shows up. He tells her that he knows about the episode, as he was there, in that room with her and the officers.

Being human again, Hugh is more determined than ever to find Gyuri – the man who killed him – and the person who hired him to complete this “mission”. He`ll have no rest until he does so and is willing to do whatever it takes to see the criminals behind the bars and to take back from the Romanian government the Bran castle – the very reason Hugh came to Romania in the first place.

Will he achieve to accomplish his two most burning desires…?

Part Three:

A grave, a gun in the yard. Bran castle`s yard. How did it end up there, and who dug that grave? And why? These are questions that torment police officer Bogdan Stan. He has no choice. He wants to find out the truth, wants to discover whether Elise`s story is true. Along his colleague, Jon Roman, they go to the castle and start digging to find the grave. To they own surprise and astonishment, the grave is discovered, and the gun in it too, just as she told them. If there is a grave, then it means someone dug it. If there is a gun, this means someone used it. Further investigations reveal connections of it with Sylvester Gyuri. A search is made on his name, but will he be found?

For Hugh and Elise more things come up to surface. What will Elise do now, since she has to return to US to finish her studies? Will she just give up on them and remain in Brasov, or will she go back with her friends? As for Hugh, what decision will he make? He hadn`t seen his family for over 5 years, he needs to return to UK and let them know that he is well, and alive. But this is where the crucial point appears; what will happen with their relationship? What will happen with the love they feel one for another…?

I soon realized that I had been limiting my thinking to the traditional brick-and-mortar business world, and my eyes were opened to the world of online business! I would not have to pay overheads like rent and utilities, no commute to work, smaller staff, and I could take time off whenever I wanted to! Now this was my real dream come true!

I soon found that the online world can be extremely confusing and difficult to navigate. This is why I started the Online Business Buddy website and Business Buddy Books. It took me years to learn how to successfully build an online business and I would have loved to have had some sort of guide at the beginning of my endeavour. An avid reader since childhood, I used to wake up early in the morning to read before going to school. The books that first fired my imagination were the Black Stallion books by Walter Farley. In Isaiah 45:7 our Almighty Lord G-d clearly states: “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.” G-d will do what He will do!

In 2 Thessalonians 2:10-12 we read: “and with all the deception of wickedness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth (Jesus) so as to be saved. For this reason our G-d will send upon them a deluding influence so that they will believe what is false, in order that they all may be judged who did not believe the truth, but took pleasure in their wickedness.

In 1 Kings 22:6, 19-23 and 2 Chronicles 18:18-22, we are told that G-d used a lying spirit to deceive king Ahab. King Ahab was the son of Omri, and he reigned over Israel in Samaria for 22 years (1 Kings 16:29-33). Continuing the example of his father, Ahab did evil in the sight of G-d by worshiping Baal and “did more to provoke the Lord G-d of Israel than all the kings of Israel that were before him”. Ahab again and again proved he was bent on evil, evidenced by his continued refusal to listen to the Prophet Elijah’s warnings. Ahab accused Elijah of troubling Israel by the drought, but Elijah declared that it was Ahab’s own sin which caused the troubles for the nation of Israel (1 Kings 18:18-40). Since Ahab had declared war on G-d by killing His prophets, G-d then brought the war back to Ahab in the form of a contest between the four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal on one side, and Elijah on the other. When G-d miraculously verified Elijah’s status as His true prophet, Ahab should have repented, but he remained in his sinful rebellion, fueled by the wicked anger of his wife, Jezebel (the great whore Babylon).

In many subsequent incidents, G-d again showed His power and mercy to Ahab, but the king continually refused to submit and obey Him. Finally Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, came to visit him and Ahab persuaded him to join in battle to take Ramoth-Gilead from the Syrians. Wisely, Jehoshaphat insisted that they seek G-d’s will in the matter, so Ahab brought 400 false prophets together, who all assured him that “G-d would give them victory” (1 Kings 22:6-8). Jehoshaphat recognized their falsehood and asked whether a true prophet of G-d could be summoned. Ahab acknowledged that Micaiah (whose name means: “who is like YAHWEH”) was a true prophet, but he hated him, because “he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad”. Micaiah was brought before the kings and delivered G-d’s final warning to Ahab. He said that if they went to war, they would be defeated and left without a king. Ahab replied, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?” (1 Kings 22:18). Ahab was again rejecting a clear warning from G-d, and continued to choose a path of wicked rebellion. In response to Ahab’s constant choice of rebellion, G-d revealed some of the inner workings of the spiritual world. G-d had already pronounced a death sentence upon Ahab (1 Kings 20:42, 21:19), but had given him opportunity to repent of his wickedness. With this final rejection of G-d’s counsel, G-d determined to carry out His earlier death sentence. Since Ahab continued to prefer the lies of his false prophets over the truth given by G-d’s prophets, G-d chose to use these same false prophets to carry out His plan.

When G-d asked for volunteers to “entice Ahab into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there” (1 Kings 22:20), a spirit said he would be a lying spirit in the mouth of the prophets. G-d gave the spirit permission to proceed, and Ahab received the message he desired. G-d chose to use a lying spirit because Ahab rejected G-d’s rebukes and warnings all through his life and the cup of G-d’s wrath was full. Since G-d is sovereign over all of creation, He is not restricted in what or who He can use to accomplish His holy purposes.

Biography
I started my martial arts journey long before I started structured training. My father used to train recreationally and had a collection of martial arts books which I recall reading as a child, as well as watching the ‘Real Bruce Lee’ documentary on repeat.

I remember trying on my dad’s belt while he was at work, and going through the movements which I saw illustrated in the books. It was a well worn belt, no doubt used by many before him as, as in those days belts were handed down from student to student.

Among my father’s book collection, there was this rather large encyclopaedic textbook written by the founder of Taekwondo, General Choi Hong Hi 9th Dan. This book had beautiful gold calligraphic writing on the front, and I have great memories of it. I still have it on my bookshelf, but it is nowhere near the condition it was all those years ago. This book contained a section on a martial artist’s role in being a positive, contributive member of society with a strong moral and ethical code of living. This resonated with me, and I realised that the martial arts were not just about fighting, but they could be used to create a better world. The less fortunate could only be protected and malevolent forces could only be defeated through exceptional physical and emotional strength.

In 1990, my father took me to see Master Andy Brown 6th Dan. I was 11 years old. I trained for about two months, gaining my yellow belt. My training stalled. Reasons were there was not always someone available to take me to classes. In 1999, months prior to my 20th birthday, I searched out Master Brown again and recommenced with my training. I had a driving licence, my own spending money, and I had more freedom to reignite my journey of self-development.

In 2001, I moved home and had to find a new club to train at. I met Master John Haggerty 5th Dan of Caledonian Taekwondo, and started training with him.

I moved back to Master Andy Brown after a year and half, and was awarded my 1st Dan in 2003, then gained my 2nd Dan in 2006.

Thanks to the Fitness First Sports Centre in Kilmarnock, I was given my break as a martial arts instructor. Will Callison, the manager at the time and a man who understood the challenges of making an idea a reality, allowed me to use his fitness studio for a trial period and this enabled me to get some teaching experience and build up a student base. From here, I moved to the Galleon Leisure Centre and then to the Martial Arts Centre on London Road, both in Kilmarnock. The Martial Arts Centre was a basement gym, and I have some great memories of that place. I stayed there for a long time, and had a rock solid core of dedicated students.

I had first spoken to Grandmaster Satwinder Singh Vohra 8th Dan on the telephone in 2008, and I felt I had instant synchronicty with him. I read an article about him in a martial arts magazine, and I searched for a way to contact him. He was very friendly and helpful on the phone. We built up a relationship, and we met each other during his visit to Scotland, where he was conducting a Poomsae Referee seminar, and I travelled down to his academy in Nottingham for training and seminars.

The Grandmaster invited me to sit a jump dan grading in May 2012, due to the fact that I had not graded for 6 years and my two dan grades were due.

I travelled to his academy in Nottingham, and had a great time, meeting some new friends. I sat and passed my grading. I attended my certificate presenation in August 2012, and was awarded 4th Dan and the title of ‘master’.

I now teach primarily from the Glasgow Club Holyrood on Aikenhead Road, and I pride myself on being a highly experienced instructor and mentor to children and adults alike.

My mission statement for my academy would be:- “To create a fully independent, tranquil, harmonious place of learning with no politics or egos. Progress is by merit only, and our goal is to teach you how to be a creator of your destiny and master of your own life”.

Martial arts helped me gain confidence and power, acting as a catalyst to make some amazing changes in my life. I want to pass this opportunity onto others.

So a bit about me… Years ago, in my teenage years, I got into working out just to look good. Back then health and eating was not so much of a concern to me. Instead, a structured response which takes into account psychological aspects as well can better help you tide such situations. (I’ve devoted a quarter of the book on how to structure this response, most of which is backed by research and real-life examples.)

This book is about a 24-hour story, the story of an adventure gone wrong which almost killed us. At 6 AM on October 6, twenty-five of us started the trek from our base camp at Sangla valley, and within few hours veered off the schedule because of few critical decisions that went wrong. That day, with few options in the wilderness of Himalayas, most of us stretched the extremities of our physical and mental endurance to set new benchmarks for ourselves. That day, we walked a distance we never thought we could. That day, we gained a height we never thought we could.
What made matters worse, though, was comedy of errors that we committed which almost starved, froze us to death. On the night of October 6, some of us braved a temperature of – 7 oC without sleeping bags and, equally important, food. Despite being an average trekker, I competed well with the best, and by the end of the ordeal was less bruised¬, physically and psychologically, than most. After the trek, as a measure of self-assessment, I dissected not just the events of this trek, but also other difficult situations that I’d faced from time to time, and realized that extremely-challenging, unprecedented situations can be better handled with a more structured response, which can reduce the difference between the best and the average. It’s worked for me on several occasions, and it can for you. This is what I want to share with you, besides the story of this trek.
The trekkers in this group were recent recruits into higher civil services in India. In all, 248 of us went to twelve different treks, and this – Rupin Pass – was the toughest of them all in terms of altitude and endurance required. When I thought of writing this book, I went through the backgrounds of the trekkers in our group in detail. What I found was spooky, to the extent of shocking me. There were just too many coincidences among us, for which there was no apparent rationale. It prompted me to talk to some of them. Oblivious of these coincidences, they answered my questions patiently, and somewhere in those answers, I found the rationale, or rather characteristics, that I knew existed, but wasn’t sure what it was. These are overarching characteristics which explain the success of the members of this group in not just overcoming the extreme odds of this trek, but also achieving disproportionately high number of successes in different fields before and after the trek. Till now, I had come across such rationales only in inspirational quotes, leadership stories, and motivational speeches, but never experienced them. The last chapter covers this underlying rationale.
