Mae Schick is a former English language teacher and language school owner who has written extensively her entire life. She was raised in Montana, and although the Homestead Acts came to a halt before she was born, she grew up among “ancients” who had a part in the fascinating era of the settling of the West. Occasionally she meets up with a homesteading descendant who has a story or two about growing up on the “old place.”Her first book was 53 Bears, a series of vignettes from her early childhood to her college years, two of which have been published in Montana anthologies. Her novel Lila, and her short stories about woman homesteaders, were inspired by the relatively unheralded experiences of strong women finding ways to become self-reliant in the American West. Many of her characters are drawn from the written histories of these women, and conversations she had growing up in a community of mostly elderly people, some who were raised on homesteads, including her parents.
Her characters start off in difficulty, dissatisfaction, or in feeling unfulfilled. Circumstances compel them to leave what is familiar and move out West. At the heart of her stories are women facing new challenges, making life-changing choices, and forging relationships.

And not to mention the 5 million wandering Sadhus in their vibrant costumes who never changed their ways and beliefs consistently since millenniums. Right from childhood I came across stories of Sadhus and Yogis wandering and meditating in the Himalayas. The very idea of Sadhus wandering and meditating in the Himalayas always fascinated me. Whenever I came across Sadhus I devotedly served them and revered them even if they were criminals in disguise. In my lifetime, destiny took me to all four corners of India where I saw many Sadhus of various factions, philosophies, cultures and costumes; but most of the time my experiences were disappointing. But these Sadhus are not mere beggars. They are an army if gathered. I have seen Sadhus with dreadlocks who worship Shiva and there are bald Sadhus who worship Vishnu. Astonishingly not to mention the enigmatic Aghori Babas who live near crematoriums and feed on dead bodies. Also are the famous Naga Babas who allegedly hired unemployed boys to rally naked in the last Kumbha Mela to compensate for their dwindling numbers. But this Sadhu was unique. He was an exotic Brahma Rishi. (A Sage belonging to Bramha the father in the Trinity, Shiva and Vishnu are his other forms).
Sadhus come from all backgrounds and professions. Many of them were great worldly people before they renounced. Just because they are Sadhus now that does not mean that they are useless and ignorant. They have left behind a family, profession and history. If a lion gives up hunting that does not mean it has forgotten how to hunt. Nobody can forget swimming. These people have simply given up worldly life. But remember they can be dangerous too. Like an army they fought against the British oppression for independence. And not to mention many Sadhus in plain clothes, who are great powerful people in disguise, supporting these Holy men; and the number can go up to 10 million because most of the wandering ones are not registered. A huge storm can burst if these people agitate. But the fact is these people are the peacekeepers and harmonizers of society.
What is a Sadhu? A Sadhu is a seeker of Truth; someone who is doing Sadhana (Spiritual seeking or pursuit). In ancient India it was customary for people to take to Sanyasa (Renunciation) in the 3rd stage of life when their children were big enough to handle the family and business. Sanyasa is preparation for Samadhi (Salvation), the final stage of any living creature on Earth. These are the keepers of religion and spirituality. I have been amazingly influenced by great spiritual souls of the past and I had always wished to find a real authentic Sadhu in this modern age. Fortunately I did not have to go to the Himalayas to find one. I found a great Sadhu, a Saint, a Yogi, a Philosopher right here in my tiny unknown town amidst the tropical forests of the Western Ghats. His name was Shri Brahmanand Ganesh Yogeshwar.
Why are these Souls destined to be like the way they are? They renounce security, home, family, wealth, pleasures, ambitions, hope and the very sense of belonging. What is the secret behind all their sufferings and penance? Why did all the great incarnations, saints, yogis and holy men have to experience severe sufferings? And why is spirituality all about penance, detachment, austerities, selfless service and sacrifice? It is simply because all these aspects wash away our karma or sins. The esoteric secret is; if you don’t suffer willingly now then you will have to suffer some time later even if you are not willing to. All the bad karma/ sins that are accumulating gradually will one day give its fruits in the form of suffering and pain. Thus if one involves in spiritual practices voluntarily then the karma/sin is balanced before you are forced to suffer. In the last three years our world went through great turmoil and upheaval. The collective negative karma/sins we pent up and at the appropriate time the fruits were delivered. It was favorable though to a few who had positive karma on their account. Not only that; incarnations, saints, yogis and sadus are destined to bear the karma of the world. They carry other peoples’ karma. Why did an incarnation like Jesus had to go through sever sufferings? It is simply because he was destined to wash away the karma/sins of the world. Some are destined to wash their ancestors’ karma. That is why it is customary in India to serve and revere Sadhus because they carry our karma too. It is believed that by serving them we are gradually relieved of our negative karma. Suffering help us evolve spiritually and propel us towards salvation which is the highest and ultimate goal of every being. I began writing fiction when I was a young journalist in Australia and had two short stories published.
My first success with a novel was The Peking Payoff, which was published in hard cover in 1975 by Macmillan Inc in New York and in paperback by Hamlyn. Hamlyn subsequently published The Seizing Of Singapore, Deadline In Jakarta and An H-Bomb For Alice.
In 1988, I self-published Reunion, also a novel.
Following my ten years as a freelance correspondent, from 1991 to 2001, based first in Singapore and then Malaysia, I wrote The Mahathir Legacy, a non-fiction work, which was published in Australia in 2003 by Allen & Unwin.

I have been in love with the past for as long as I can remember. Anything with a history, whether shabby or majestic, recent or ancient, instantly draws me in. I suppose it comes from being part of a large extended family that spanned several generations. Long summer afternoons on my grandmother’s porch or winter evenings gathered around her fireplace were filled with stories both entertaining and poignant. Of course being set in the American South, those stories were also peopled by some very interesting characters, some of whom have found their way into my work.As for my venture in writing, it has allowed me to reinvent myself. We humans are truly multifaceted creatures, but unfortunately we tend to sort and categorize each other into neat, easily understood packages that rarely reveal the whole person. Perhaps you, too, want to step out of the box in which you find yourself. I encourage you to look at the possibilities and imagine. Be filled with childlike wonder in your mental wanderings. Envision what might be, not simply what is. Let us never forget, all good fiction begins when someone says to her or himself, “Let’s pretend.”

Louis Abellard is cruel and heartless; he’s without morals or conscience or decency. Still he is a highly -regarded business tycoon in the white- Southern- ruled society of his day. He has absolutely no respect for women–using them like toys and tossing them aside when boredom sets in. His father forces him to marry with threat of disinheritance for the purpose of passing the Abellard name down to posterity (Louis is the only son). His wife he practically ignores and goes right on about his womanizing ways, but one son comes out of the marriage. Charles he also ignores until he becomes 16, when the death of his wife forces him to complete Charles’ rearing.
Charles is shy, quiet and soft-spoken, the exact opposite of his showy father. He’s moral, kind and considerate. This is irksome to Louis, but he vows to turn him into a wild young stallion. Charles finds his father’s Ku Klux Klan affiliation, his drinking, swearing, promiscuity, hypocrisy and lack of respect for human life revolting. The clash of these two polar opposite personalities make for a dramatic, shocking ending.

Mary Keith was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and lived in Memphis, Tennessee and Jackson, Mississippi before settling in the small Mississippi town of Clinton. She worked as an executive secretary and later as a medical secretary while pursuing her dream of making the book she envisioned a reality.
