You certainly would, and that is the reality behind Melanie Hutchinson’s book Getting Things
Done:Proven Methods and Tools for Time Management, Productivity and Order in Your Life.
Hutchinson pulls no punches with the urgency of the problem of poorly-managed time: stress
can actually kill us. But stress is really an issue of our thought life, rather than a physical
condition or illness.
Getting Things Done gets us into the action steps immediately by having us first identify our
priorities.We can’t do everything we’re asked to do – we have to say “no” to some things. We
need to determine ahead of time what the most important matters are, and what is not important
to us personally.
Hutchinson recommends meditation as a method of training our minds to stay in the present
time and place. This helps us focus on the tasks at hand and not get distracted by interruptions.
Once we know what our priorities are, we can set some goals. Hutchinson carefully outlines
how to set goals that we can really work with. She recommends specific goals (losing 15
pounds, not the more general ‘lose some weight’).
Our goal also should be measurable, so we can track our progress. My statement of wanting to
lose 15 pounds in the paragraph above is measurable, because I can periodically weight myself
to see how close I am to my goal. A general “lose weight” is not as measurable: sure you can
lose one pound, but does that mean you’ve met your goal?
We also need to know how to attain our goal. I know I can lose 15 pounds is I start running
every day and gradually increase my distance over time. Is 15 pounds realistic? Maybe not over
the course of a month, but it is realistic over a year. Thus, we’ve made a workable goal.
Hutchinson introduces us to the idea of keeping a time log for a few days, a journal to record
how we are currently spending our time in a typical day. By studying our log, we can see where
we could work more efficiently. For example, if I see that I’m spending two hours per day in my
car, I can make a point to get some phone calls made while I drive. Maybe we need to see in
black-and-white how much time we’re spending playing video games or watching T.V. A Time
log will reveal that to us as well.
We can also examine our workspace for unnecessary clutter and clear it out. We can work more
efficiently in an uncluttered space, where we can find everything we need immediately.

While we live our lives, it can sometimes be hard, if not impossible not to come across something that will boggle your mind. Some people choose just to live their lives and not worry about it thinking it’s just a waste of time, or just plain silly. But for some of us like myself, I just can’t help it! Waste of time or not, it’s a way to expand your mind or open your way of thinking.I’ve always been a fan of conspiracies, unsolved cases of all kinds, the unexplained, fascinating facts, the wonders of our planet, outer space, random information facts, and just things that are downright creepy!
Then there’s the outright fascinating, and also downright hilarious. From obscure places around the world, messed up rules, worldly discoveries, urban legends, creepypastas, mysterious events, odd traditional habits, and downright hilarious moments in history, it’s just never enough.
I can’t get enough TV shows, books, and articles about these things! They expand your mind and the thirst for knowledge of our world and the universe keeps my mind fresh and alert at all the time, and the topics at hand make great discussion material.
Anything to do with conspiracies, I’m usually a believer, or at least very open to the possibility, especially with how much information is withheld from us by the people who are supposed to be protecting us. Anything from the economy, to secret groups, to disasters, and major events can be questioned, manipulated, and controlled.
UFO’s, the unexplained, and the paranormal, as common as these are to everyone, have baffled people for centuries, and it seems like there is no end in sight and the topics branch out into many sub categories and bring up the following questions – which can be broken down into various topics:
Are we alone in the universe?
Is there a spirit world?
Are ghosts and paranormal activities real, scientific, or a figment of our imagination?
Are there species/monsters that haven’t been discovered yet?
Will we solve the many unsolved mysteries out there?
Why are there conspiracies?
Are truths being hidden from us?
Why does our world contain funny and disturbing stuff at the same time?
Where did legends come from?
Are our freedoms really being compromised?
Do we really know enough about our history?
Are we actually closer to knowing our origins or farther away?There are countless cases of these and I’m very fascinated with the universes, and pretty much daily there’s something new to look at! From abductions, sightings, disappearances, historical discoveries, haunted places, and ghost sightings, the possibilities are endless.
I’m here to share with you what I’ve come across over the years. I hope to open your mind and help you realize that although we live in an amazing world, it’s also very bizarre on so many levels.

Mary Dean’s first story, read aloud while carpooling to St. Leo’s Catholic Grammar School, was a sequel to Gone with the Wind. Cason’s Rhett Butler meets another woman who adores him. Scarlett sets out to kill them both. “My story met with frowns,” Cason says. “I was the only girl in North Carolina who didn’t pull for Scarlett to get Rhett back.”Mary Dean had already blown through a series of careers before she settled down to study writing. “I was a flight attendant back in the days when we got pinched on a regular basis. I hung wallpaper at night while I was studying to be an occupational therapist. Eventually, I became a writer for pharmaceutical/healthcare ad agencies and somehow managed to raise two amazing children along the way.”
Writing stories came late, but the seeds were planted early. Growing up on the front porches of North Carolina was where Cason listened, and in time, learned to be a storyteller. In 2000, she submitted “What Solomon Saw” to Chicago Public Radio’s Stories on Stage. In addition to the Writers Studio prize, Mary Dean also won the University of Memphis Pinch Award and California’s WestSide Story Contest. Mary Dean lives along Lake Michigan with her husband. Together they have six children. She is completing her first novel.
