The Early YearsI won my first creative contest in the sixth grade for my Clean Up Fix Up Paint Up poster. This started a career that even a Phi Beta Kappa and B.A. from Michigan State University could not derail.
The Career Years
I wrote a non-fiction book entitled The Great Lakes: North America’s Inland Sea published by Outdoor World. The publisher is long since defunct, and the book appears, naked and alone, on eBay every now and again. From this experience I learned how little an author could make.
Consequently, I turned to advertising and eventually became the creative director of Grey in Chicago. I learned it not only pays to advertise, it pays to write it, too. My job titles covered the alphabet from CD to ECD to ECD/EVP to business owner with no title at all when I started my own consultancy. I left Chicago, trading in my stilettos for rain boots, and moved to the Pacific Northwest along with a nervous dachshund and a grouchy parrot.
The Now Years
Now that I represent the older but wiser end of the baby boomer years, I am concentrating on writing fiction. My novels tend toward dark subjects handled in a light tone to make them palatable. The four are available now as Kindle Select books at Amazon.com. They are:

Those were the first words I ever remember hearing from Daddy. I didn’t understand the words, as a four year old at the time, but I will never forget his anger.
Daddy had a weakness for the bottle and it controlled his life. Hurting people, hurt people, and Daddy was hurting. Life had given him many reasons for his pain. I didn’t understand that at the time. I only knew that Daddy hurt all of us by his words and actions. Especially, Mama. She took the brunt from all of his beatings.
