STANT LITORE doesn’t consider his writing a vocation; he considers it an act of survival. As a youth, he witnessed the 1992 outbreak in the rural Pacific Northwest firsthand, as he glanced up from the feeding bins one dawn to see four dead staggering toward him across the pasture, dark shapes in the morning fog. With little time to think or react, he took a machete from the barn wall and hurried to defend his father’s livestock; the experience left him shaken. After that, community was never an easy thing for him. The country people he grew up with looked askance at his later choice of college degree and his eventual graduate research on the history of humanity’s encounters with the undead, and the citizens of his college community were sometimes uneasy at the machete and rosary he carried with him at all times, and at his grim look.

Desiring to live in a place with fewer trees (though he misses the forested slopes of his youth), a place where you can scan the horizon for miles and see what is coming for you while it is still well away, he settled in Colorado with his wife and two daughters, and they live there now. The mountains nearby call to him with promises of refuge. Driven again and again to history with an intensity that burns his mind, he corresponds in his thick script for several hours each evening with scholars and archaeologists and even a few national leaders or thugs wearing national leaders’ clothes who hoard bits of forgotten past in far countries. He tells stories of his spiritual ancestors to any who will come by to listen, and he labors to set those stories to paper. Sometimes he lies awake beside his sleeping wife and listens in the night for any moan in the hills, but there is only her breathing, soft and full, and a mystery of beauty beside him. He keeps his machete sharp but hopes not to use it.

Yael Shachnay was born in 1962 in Tel Aviv. Yael is married and has a daughter and a son, ages 21 and 15. For the past ten years, Yael is the owner and publisher of Rimonim Publishing in Israel. Rimonim is a publishing house that translates quality literature from Spanish and Catalonian, as well as other languages, and publishes Israeli literature for adults, YA, and children.
In 2004 Yael published a children’s book titled “Freckles Like Stars” and in 2008, an anthology of short stories titled “Crumbs of Cinnamon.” Her novel, “A Light Goes On the Porch” was published in 2012 by Ma’ariv Publishing, an imprint of Keter Books Ltd.
When she was 13, Yael traveled with her family to London as a result of her parents’ work. The family lived in London for 4 years and Yael completed her high school education there. She has a BA in English literature, psychology, and political science. Throughout the years, Yael has worked in marketing and advertising agencies and 17 years ago, after studying literary and linguistic editing, she started working in large publishing houses in Israel. Ten years ago Yael founded Rimonim Publishing, a boutique publishing house. Since, she has published close to 200 titles.
Yael is currently working on a new novel.

David grew up in the north east of England, where he went on to study English Literature at The University of Sunderland. After graduating, he started to write his first fictional stories, but always felt that to become a truly accomplished writer he would need to significantly broaden his horizons. Therefore, just days after his 27th birthday, he bought a one-way ticket to Sydney, Australia.

He spent 2 years in the land down under and travelled through every far flung corner of the country, earning his keep by taking up jobs doing everything from pruning grape vines to driving tractors. In his spare time he vowed to try every new experience that was offered his way, no matter how crazy. He climbed glaciers, swam with sharks, jumped from aeroplanes and pretty much tried to live life as much as possible.

During his time overseas, he was also fortunate enough to meet the love of his life; Katie. Upon the couple’s return to the UK in 2009, what was originally intended as a birthday present (a travel journal recounting their time in Asia) helped him to rediscover his vocation in life. He has been writing like a mad man ever since.

All of David’s novels are inspired to some extent by his own travels and he writes the kind of books that he would want to read. Far too impatient to spend months waiting for impersonal rejections from literary agents, he decided to publish his work himself. Ultimately, he just wants people to enjoy reading his books as much as he enjoys writing them.

Grandfather (Papa) had what he described as horrible nightmares. When Papa was a young man, he killed a man and before being captured went on the run for seven years. The dead man’s ghost would come for Papa nightly. He must have relived that shooting hundreds of times in his dreams. Grandma would have to awaken him to stop his screaming.

The day Papa killed the man. Papa was inside his house when this man came to the front gate and called him to come outside. Papa must have expected trouble because he went to his front porch with a Colt .45 in his hand, and he asked the man to leave and not to come on his property. But the man wouldn’t leave. In fact, he told Papa that he was going to come inside the yard and beat-up my grandfather. Papa warned him that if he opened that gate, he would shoot him. The man ignored Papa and opened the gate, and Papa proceeded to empty his gun into him.

Papa would then stand up and pretend he had a gun in his hand to show how he shot the man. That’s when my grandma would say. “John, why are you telling that child about that man you killed?”

My grandmother had lost her hearing, so she didn’t know what Papa was talking about until he stood up and pretended he had a gun in his hand. Papa never told us who the man was or why he wanted to harm our family.

The author takes you on a journey that highlights the life experiences of a boy from the age of six through manhood. He grew up on the Mississippi River in the Arkansas Delta, but felt out-of-place in that environment. In his home town prejudice and inequality were practice openly. His escape from the Delta was not realized until he went abroad. He takes you on his adventures in the rural south and throughout Europe. He shares with you a variety of emotions including fear, sadness, happiness, and amusement. Alien in the Delta is a memoir about overcoming adversity.

I am Johnny Bowl. I come from the year 2056 where apocalyptic circumstances have forced me to time travel to this decade. I was born to write The Ohana. It’s the story of the Hawaii I grew up in-the Hawaii my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and others spoke of. I’ve collected these stories half my life and spent the other half writing it down.

Many of the stories in The Ohana are real stories. Regarding the formation of the mob in Hawaii. My dad’s best childhood friend grew up to be the first “godfather” of the Korean, Japanese, Portuguese mob. Years later I married a lawyer who represented every godfather in Hawaii for income tax evasion. I pored over all his legal cases and went to all his trials.

Living in Aspen brought me into a different world and I became friends with centerfolds and models who brought me more stories.

I’m third generation Japanese and Korean with a Psychology degree from the University of Hawaii. I’m a screenwriter whose first screenplay was made into a movie, September Dawn, starring Jon Voight. I’m currently working on other screenplays.

A survivor of many health problems, I’m also passionately interested in naturopathic, holistic healing through herbs and everything God provided on this planet.

Native Americans say, “Walk a mile in my moccasins and you will see why I do what I do.” When you finally put down “The Ohana,” you will understand more about the diverse cultures that make up Hawaii and understand the challenges all immigrants faced and why they did what they did.

I hope my stories resonate in the hearts of everyone who reads my books. And although I no longer live in Hawaii, the Islands of Heaven lives in my heart.

Author Bio:
Cynthia Gustavson has blossomed from constrictive roots to make expression her life’s work. She’s an outspoken public policy advocate, innovative educator, an academic with many accreditations, and a devoted social worker and therapist.

Cynthia is best known for a variety of award-winning titles, including her poetry collection, Please Use This For Children and Not for War and Guns, children’s books Ballad of the Rag Man and Bully! The Big Book for Bullies and the Bullied, and her bestselling series of poetry therapy workbooks In-Versing Your Life. She’s contributed a chapter on the use of poetry in therapy for the textbook Expressive Therapies for Sexual Issues (Springer Press), and she’s a contributing author to The Speaker Anthology.

Outside of her acclaimed writing career, she is a social worker and therapist with over 30 years of experience. Cynthia also serves on the editorial board of the acclaimed Nimrod International Journal in Tulsa. It’s a full life made more meaningful by strong family bonds with her husband of 40 years and her two grown children.

The prose in her latest book, Between Tahlequah and Tulsa, combines her time-honored flair for evoking pastoral scenery with a newfound muscular emotionality and a brave declarative voice.
