Ray Hamill was born and educated in Dublin, Ireland, before moving to the United States in the early 1990s and beginning a career in journalism.
After honing his craft for a few years at small-town newspapers in Northern California, Ray moved to Eureka in the summer of 2000, spending the following decade working as sports editor for the Eureka Times-Standard and the Eureka Reporter.
In recent years, Ray has worked as a freelance writer while penning and publishing two novels, Help Me, I’m Irish! – a semi-autobiographical book of memoirs “about the non-meaning of life” – and Free the Leprechauns, a satirical look at how contemporary society has lost sight of the important things in life that asks the seemingly obvious question, if God truly made mankind in his image, how smart can he really be?
While working for the Eureka Reporter, Ray and his staff were the recipients of three California Newspapers Publishers Association awards. He is also the host of North Coast Fan Zone, a local sports talk show in the Eureka area.

I grew up on the coast and a seagoing career just came naturally. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed a number of years before spending a decade in shore side ship management. I struck out on my own in 1986, and formed a company specializing in ship construction management and supervision. I’ve traveled widely and lived for extended periods in both South America and the Far East (Singapore and China). By far the most interesting aspect of travel (and life in general) is the folks you meet along the way, and I’ve had the good fortune to encounter a lot of interesting characters. Bits and pieces of some of them make their way into the characters of my novels.I write stories I’d like to read — tales of ordinary people in extraordinary situations. I dislike heroes who are some combination of brain surgeon/nuclear physicist (or who have equally far-fetched skill sets) and who just coincidently are ace helicopter pilots and fifth degree black belts in multiple martial arts. Like the rest of us mortals, my characters are normal people who screw up from time to time and live with the results.
I currently live in Tennessee with my lovely (and patient) wife of 39 years. In addition to writing and travel, I occasionally (when cornered) complete a task on my ‘honey do’ list, and from time to time, join my wife in badgering our children to produce grandchildren. All in all, a rewarding life.

Grimbledung runs a disreputable Second Hand Wand Wagon that he moves regularly to avoid the authorities.
Everything changes when they combine their talents: City ordinances are broken. Neighbors are annoyed. The Constable becomes involved. Even the Magician’s Guild sends over some Enforcers to deal with them. Things are definitely looking up for the Gnomes!
From multi-headed travelers looking for a good time, mysterious cloaked figures, to Half-Orcs just trying to obey their mates, everyone seems to come to the Second Hand Wand Shoppe to either buy or sell a wand.
Along for the ride are a neurotic Jousting Dummy, an immortal (so far) Rat, a Trolless who runs the Tavern across the street, a Dwarf next door with (alleged) Mob ties, and the Head Mistress of the local School of Magic (with definite Mob ties).
We’d say that all that was missing was a love story, but there’s one of those tucked neatly in a chapter as well. You’re welcome.

Kathy Campshure (a.k.a. K. C. Berg) is a ‘tried and true’ country girl who was born, raised and continues to live in Northeast Wisconsin. In addition to writing fantasy/romance novels, she also dabbles in writing dramatic stage plays. Her plays have been performed by The Atlantic Stage in Myrtle Beach, SC, by Love Creek Productions in New York City, by Theatre in the Woods in Shawano, WI and by the Machickanee Players in Oconto, WI.
