I’m the product of when a 5-year-old boy who fell in love with reruns of Guy William’s Zorro on the Disney Channel grows into a mostly functional adult. I still love that series and pretty much anything relating to swordplay. Pirates, musketeers, masked heroes, shadowy villains, noble steeds, cutthroats, courtiers, and the like have all had a making in what gets me excited in literature and movies today. If there’s swordplay there’s a good chance I’ll want to read or see it. My collection of musketeer movies is pretty extensive.Anyways, my love for writing and swords led me to read books like The Three Musketeers, Captain Blood, Scaramouche, Captain Alatriste and the like. I quickly realized there weren’t enough swashbuckler tales out there (as if there’s such thing as enough swashbucklers) and began writing my own. I went to Emerson College where I graduated with a degree in Journalism & New Media and a minor in Fiction Writing. Few things beat seeing people’s faces when they realized you just turned in a story about pirates. Just after college my first short-story “Ye Be Oak, True as Oak” was published in the 2006 WritersCafe.org Anthology. Couple years later my first poem “Sword-crossed Lovers” can be found in Vol. 13, #1, Issue 59 of Renaissance Magazine.
My love for writing, history and swordplay led him to write historical adventure stories and swashbuckling mysteries. I’ve studied both historical fencing and stage combat. My inspirations, if you’re interested, include Rafael Sabatini and Alexandre Dumas and, more recently, C.J. Sansom, Arturo Perez-Reverte, and C.W. Gortner.
When not writing, I practice historical fencing, playing roller hockey, read comics, create cosplay costumes, and blog about the Boston Bruins for the award winning Days of Y’Orr.

With my rendering, these accounts have been compiled as chronicles of motley collection. On rare occasion, culinary descriptions have been noted.
Time is of essence. And on a timeline of this journey, specific dates have been drawn. As great distances have been covered, it has taken a long time for this book to be written. Snapshots started as a diary, but evolved over time into a book. Dynamic in its own right, at the end of each traverse, another begins anew and is recorded in the travelogue.

This paella recipe book brings me very good feelings and memories.
First, because it contains the traditional cooking that I always had at home. I remember my mom cooking these dishes at home since I was a kid. Some dishes were cooked during week days, like Baked Rice (more humble and affordable meal), some others on most of the Sundays and special occasions, like Valencian Paella, or mainly during summer holidays, like Seafood Paella.
These are the exact ways the different Paella variations are traditionally cooked in Valencia (Spain) and its surrounding counties.
Second, because of the quality time I spent with my mom writing them down and trying to tell the story behind each recipe. I liked how enthusiastic she was about it. For her, Internet is an unknown world and, knowing that her recipes could be reached from anywhere in the Planet she was really excited.
If you are interested in traditions and cooking, with some interest and patience you can taste at home the flavor of Paella as it’s cooked at the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.

Bound Bayou is David Canford’s debut novel.David is a graduate of Cambridge University and works as a lawyer. He has three daughters and he and his wife live on the south coast of England, battered by wind and rain and enjoying occasional sunshine and the most incredible seascapes.
