I am a published Author. I am disabled, and speak my books into being with speech to text software, modern technology has freed my muse! It takes a lot of time for me to craft my books, so please don’t read and return them, marching through all the books in a series. I am an Air Force Brat, and grew up mostly overseas in Madrid, Spain and West Berlin, West Germany. I get my ideas from History and Folklore. If I can stroke something that is already in a large group of people’s mind to some extent, it creates automatic empathy for the subject. I try to write in a 5 Book Series format, to allow my characters to build and be fleshed out completely.

This book has its roots in the depths of the Great Recession. During that time, as I agonized over investing, saving and potential job loss, I developed an investment philosophy I dubbed the “Financial Fortress” and began writing a blog about specific asset classes, investment strategies and related topics.

My two biggest successes have been in real estate and precious metals. During the Great Recession, I made some aggressive moves, using retirement savings, to purchase distressed condominiums in Orange County, California. In addition to enjoying positive cash flow while I owned the properties, I have just completed two sales, doubling my money in five years. I also made an aggressive move into silver (US Silver Eagle coins) to watch them triple in value, at which time I sold individual rolls on EBay and kept the rest for future appreciation.

The essence of the Financial Fortress is that as savers and investors, we need to first have a strong defense before we can have a strong offense. As volatility in world markets seems to worsen each year and booms/busts become more intense, preservation of capital is paramount but so is finding opportunities to leverage what we have in order to grow our wealth.

I’m a realist in my writing, as well as my art. I don’t have as much imagination as many other writers–a handicap (or strength) that comes partly from my training (Ph.D.) and experience as a mental health program researcher/evaluator/developer. I’m also a flâneuse, a female observer-wanderer. So, I watch, and observe. And listen. That’s where the meat of my writing comes from.

As an author of love stories, I tend not to rely on broad shoulders and heaving bosoms. Instead, I go into the protagonists’ thoughts and emotions, and how those show their growth. My novels deal with protagonists’ insecurities and disappointments, love/hate relationships with parents, characters who seem to behave out-of-character, and even life events not typically included in romantic fiction. My stories do have happy epilogues, and I’ve tried to work in intriguing plotlines into them.

I grew up in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, and attended college at Montreat and Pfeiffer, both in North Carolina. I have worked as a teacher and school librarian, and have published thirteen novels for young people. Diary of a Wildflower was my first novel for adults, and Mansions of Karma my second. I live in Hummelstown, Pennsylvania, near my daughter, Dee Olivia, son-in-law, William, and grandson Pate, where I enjoy my roles as full time writer and grandmother.

Jon has recently been blessed and privileged to have been called in December 2008 by Sovereign Grace Baptist Church as the congregation’s pastor. He has been the pastor there since January 2009.

After fruitful pastoral ministries to the Aleut people of the remote Alaskan fishing village of King Cove and to the Yup’ik Eskimos of the remote Alaskan fishing village of Scammon Bay, he and his family left Alaska on January 23, 2008 when symptoms that were once thought to be Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (aka ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease) began to manifest in 2006.

After extensive testing at Loma Linda University Medical Center, and continued testing at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center, a diagnosis was slow to come. When it did, it was rescinded. Although the symptoms are just like those of ALS and PLS (Primary Lateral Sclerosis), his ailments were labeled “unidentified.”

Finally, in our seventh year with these symptoms, and after three years on crutches, Jon began taking some antibiotics for a severe chest cold. His dexterity and coordination began to slowly return and his strength also increased. When the antibiotics ran out, he began drinking a very strong ginger tea twice daily, which was made by his mother-in-law. Soon thereafter he moved from crutches to a cane and began walking two to three miles per day. Still drinking the ginger tea twice daily, Jon has been functioning with only slight residual symptoms.

JON’S PERSONAL TESTIMONY

Jon was born in San Diego, California on August 25, 1960. His father, a navy man, passed away in 1963 while in military service and his mother married another sailor three years later. As a result, his family moved all over the country… and as Jon often jokes, “My family moved several times between 1966 and 1971, and I found them every time.” By the time he graduated from high school, he longed to travel again. After a semester of college, he dropped out and joined the US Navy with hopes of being a “frogman.”

Climbing the ranks quickly, Jon found favor with his superiors in the navy diving community; yet, he was empty and troubled. Assigned as a 2nd Class Diver onboard the U.S.S. McKee in 1984, “God surrounded me with Christians who loved me, prayed for me, and answered any questions that I had,” says Cardwell. For the entire month of May 1985 he was under conviction as a hopeless sinner doomed to eternal punishment. On June 3, 1985, after nine months of Christian witness and conviction from the Holy Spirit, he went to one of the Christians. He found Vincent Lawrence and asked Vince to pray for him because, as Jon relates, “I somehow knew that if I didn’t repent before God, I knew that I was utterly and eternally lost; yet, I also knew that I couldn’t possibly repent until God changed me and made me capable of repenting.” Vince invited Jon to kneel and pray with him. As they knelt together in the divers’ berthing compartment, again Jon describes it this way:

“I supposed that I repeated Vince’s words; however, I know I didn’t hear a word Vince said until the very last ‘amen.’ While kneeling with closed eyes, I KNEW that I was a totally depraved sinner with no hope; yet because God poured out His just and holy wrath upon Jesus Christ for my sins, and that Jesus lovingly and willingly paid that price for my sins, that God made me right with Himself by what He accomplished on the Cross of Calvary. From the depth of my soul I groaned for forgiveness by His atoning blood, and in a moment, an indescribable peace came to me. I remembered saying, ‘amen,’ and opening my eyes. I stood up as a new man. I was different. I was transformed. It was noticeable to the other divers I worked with. Although I couldn’t understand all of it, I had a love for God’s Word and couldn’t stop reading it. I also had a love for God’s people and wanted to be around them whenever I could.”

Jon and his family are in general agreement with the early English Baptist confessions, such as the 1st London Baptist Confession of Faith (1644/1646) and the 2nd London Baptist Confession of Faith (1677/1689), as well as the early American Baptist confessions, such as the Philadelphia Confession of Faith (1742) and the New Hampshire Confession of Faith (1833).

Additionally, by God’s grace, in his faith he strives to be Reformed in theology but not exclusive; Calvinistic in bibliology but not fatalistic; evangelistic in soteriology but not pragmatic; amillennial in eschatology but not dogmatic; puritanical in praxeology but not legalistic.

A native of the south, I was born in Columbus, Georgia in 1951, the first of five children.
My father’s work as a salesman filled my early years with moves from the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Georgia to Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Petersburg, Virginia and Baltimore, until finally returning to the Atlanta area in 1965. From then on, I remained a Georgian, going to school and growing up in the Atlanta area.

Varied work and life experiences have given me an appreciation for the virtues and faults of people at all levels of society. For the record, I love people, the humanity that populates the world. People are infinitely interesting, all of them. I may not like certain individuals and I may hate the things they do, but as a group, I am fascinated by people.
I do work at trying to understand human strengths and frailties, and try above all else in writing to bring life and reality to the characters in my stories. The white hats the heroes wear are intentionally spotted and grayed by their own demons and struggles. The bad guys are not always misunderstood Robin Hoods. Sometimes they are just truly bad with no possibility of social redemption.

In the end, the stories are fiction, about fictional people. I believe that through fiction, some of the greatest truths may be discussed and discovered about our humanity, or the lack of it.
Finally, like real people, the characters I try to paint are not completely good and rarely completely evil. Like most of us, they lie somewhere in between.

Author Bio:
Reece Eliot Bridger was born in the south of England in September of 1995. During the course of his life, he has devoted four years to writing a single fantasy story, one which started as little more than a pipe-dream and a fanciful idea, but quickly evolved into a fascination that plunged into his dreams, his thoughts, and every microscopic aspect of his life since then.

Reece’s first book of his debut ‘Buan’ trilogy, ‘The Perfect Mortals’, has recently been rewritten from its first draft, formerly named ‘The Tales of Cornelia – The Book of Harmon’. The book has since been published, and released in both eBook and physical forms. Since the first draft was completed, and he decided to rewrite his novel, he has received tutorship from his fellow self-made author, Ben Galley, who has been mentoring him in how to become a successful, self-published author.

Since he was thirteen years of age, Reece has had a story to tell. Over time, this story evolved into an epic tale of horror and magic that he hopes to tell the whole of during the course of his life. This story has invaded his thoughts every minute of every day since it was first imagined, and some amongst his family and friends believe that Reece’s determination in his writing stems from this obsession with the story he has stumbled upon.
