Mary Christian Payne is an accomplished business woman, who has held high ranking, management positions with Fortune 500 companies, in New York City, St. Louis, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is a recipient of the Mayor’s Pinnacle Award in Tulsa, for directing a highly successful program at The Women’s Resource Center at the University of Tulsa. All of these positions involved significant amounts of writing. She has also acted as a speech writer for high profile political figures, and for executives of major corporations.

She is now a retired Career Psychologist. She was the founder and President of Transitions Counseling Center, in partnership with her father, the retired CEO of a four billion dollar retail organization. She has taught seminars throughout Oklahoma. Mary Christian is a world traveler, and has spent extensive time in England, thus creating an excellent foundation for writing novels set in Great Britain. The era of World War II has always held tremendous appeal for her, and she is a committed Anglophile. My first novel, Fire Eyes, was a finalist for the W.H. Smith First Novel Award. A second novel, Healing the Dead, was translated into German as Todliche Ahnungen. This was followed by The Good Lie, another psychological thriller, now recorded as a talking book. A fourth novel, Exit from America, made its debut as an e-book in 2013. I’m currently working on a series of novels narrated from the point-of-view of a crime reporter. In the off-hours I’m working on some non-fiction meditation guides, grouped under the banner of White Light Meditation.

David grew up in the north east of England, where he went on to study English Literature at The University of Sunderland. After graduating, he started to write his first fictional stories, but always felt that to become a truly accomplished writer he would need to significantly broaden his horizons. Therefore, just days after his 27th birthday, he bought a one-way ticket to Sydney, Australia.

We began writing our first children’s book in 2010. Cathy and I would often sit outside watching and feeding the birds. The birds were very clever and fun to watch, especially when the smaller birds kicked seed to the ground for the larger birds. It seemed the birds had some group structure and displayed very effective teamwork. We thought it would be interesting to write a book about a group of birds flying south for the winter.

Publishing our first book was only a dream. The finished book sat on our computer hard drive for over a year before being convinced to self-publish. I try to keep my characters real. I like to have a heroine with whom the reader can empathize. These aren’t women who just jump into bed with anyone. They find themselves in an unusual situation – something exciting and erotic – but a situation where they have to push themselves beyond their comfort level. As a result, they grow as a person. So often fear holds us back – of what others will think of us, of what we will think about ourselves – and we don’t follow our hearts. These women push past that fear.

I have always loved reading, and my favorite genre is fantasy, so it was fated that I would eventually write some. In addition, since I have been teaching high school for thirty-four years, it is not surprising that I would write young adult fantasy. Teaching English is very time-consuming, and so is writing, so I have had to work to get them to coexist. A native of the south, I was born in Columbus, Georgia in 1951, the first of five children.
My father’s work as a salesman filled my early years with moves from the banks of the Chattahoochee River in Georgia to Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Petersburg, Virginia and Baltimore, until finally returning to the Atlanta area in 1965. From then on, I remained a Georgian, going to school and growing up in the Atlanta area.

Varied work and life experiences have given me an appreciation for the virtues and faults of people at all levels of society. For the record, I love people, the humanity that populates the world. People are infinitely interesting, all of them. I may not like certain individuals and I may hate the things they do, but as a group, I am fascinated by people.
I do work at trying to understand human strengths and frailties, and try above all else in writing to bring life and reality to the characters in my stories. The white hats the heroes wear are intentionally spotted and grayed by their own demons and struggles. The bad guys are not always misunderstood Robin Hoods. Sometimes they are just truly bad with no possibility of social redemption.

In the end, the stories are fiction, about fictional people. I believe that through fiction, some of the greatest truths may be discussed and discovered about our humanity, or the lack of it.
Finally, like real people, the characters I try to paint are not completely good and rarely completely evil. Like most of us, they lie somewhere in between.

Rolland Love is the author of award winning short stories, novels, a best selling computer book and a co-author of Homegrown in the Ozarks: Mountain Meals and Memories, a cookbook that was a finalist for best book of the year in Missouri. He created and presents workshops on journaling, writing, storytelling, life history for children and senior adults. He is a speaker, has appeared on talk shows, been interviewed by the Kansas City Star, and other publications have written stories about his Mark Twain writing style.

Rolland was a board member with the Lewis and Clark Historic Kaw Point Park, an environmental group for ten years. He was a reenactor with the Lewis and Clark bicentennial expedition and played the role of Silas Goodrich, expert fisherman.
