Isn’t it right to assume that Mother Nature, who has instituted these amenities for flora, would certainly have established an analogous measure for fauna too? Though we have around us the superfluity men and women choose to become more appealing, be in the form of make-up, fragrance, ornaments, dress or other accompaniments, which can be thought of as expedients similar to the ones seen among plants. But that does not stop, one question form popping up; would nature have left such an important feature of evolution to the vagaries of individual choice? A close examination into the life and style of male and animals show that each and every instance of sexual union shows the way to a disagreeable finale, in which, the male always is at the receiving end. That is to say, the female becomes disgust personified by the end of every such event. Moreover, the expression of such revulsion can be readily observed in the post mating behavior of females, many of them acute expressions of distaste. What could be the rationale behind the subjecting the animal kingdom to such a predicament if not for meeting an essential need of life? It seems the immediate thought of our forefathers was of the calamity waiting for humans (males) if something is not done to prevent the females from expressing their displeasure after each and every instance of sexual union and did take appropriate actions to preclude this. All that we celebrate today as unique human qualities are in fact leftover of those ‘appropriate actions’. That certainly has made the human (males’) life more comfortable, but the search for the rationale escaped them.

    Dr YS Walsh is a BPS Chartered Psychologist and HPC Registered Counselling Psychologist, she trained in counselling psychology as a mature student specialising in Cognitive Therapy.     Lt Col Mark E. Berent, USAF (Ret), was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Cretin High School in St. Paul, Minnesota. Later graduated from Arizona State University under the Air Force Institute of Technology program with a BSME.

    Berent began his Air Force career as an enlisted man, then entered the aviation cadet program. He attended pilot training at Columbus Air Force Base, Mississippi and Laredo Air Force Base, Texas flying the T-6, T-28, and T-33 aircraft. He moved on to F-86 Sabre Jet at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. He served on active duty for 23 years until retirement in 1974. He began his operational flying career in the F-86 and F-100 flying at various posts throughout the United States and Europe. He later served three combat tours, completing 452 combat sorties flying the F-100 at Bien Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam, next the F-4 at Ubon Royal Thai Air Base, Thailand. After those tours, he was stationed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for two years to fly things with propellers on them and through a fluke in communications timing, to personally run the air war for a few weeks from a most unusual place.

    He has also served two tours at the United States Space and Missile System Organization (SAMSO) at Los Angeles, California working first in the Satellites Control Facility and later as a staff developmental engineer for the space shuttle. In his expansive career he has seen service as an Air Attaché to the United States Embassy, Phnom Penh, Cambodia and also as Chief of Test Control Branch at the Air Development and Test Center at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. He also served as an instructor at the Air Force’s Squadron Officer School.

    During his flying career he has logged over 4300 hours of flying time, 1084 of those in combat missions in the F-100, F-4, C-47 and U-10 over North and South Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. He has flown 30 different aircraft.

    His decorations include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with one oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star, Air Medal with twenty four oak leaf clusters, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Cambodian Divisional Medal, and numerous Vietnam Campaign ribbons. He completed jump school with the Special Forces. Later, he jumped with and was awarded Cambodian paratrooper wings. He also flew with and received Cambodian pilot wings.

    After leaving the Air Force he lived in Europe to establish and direct international operations for the sale of spares for military aircraft. He has flown many foreign aircraft such as the Swedish Viggen and Royal Air Force Jaguar and Hawk. He also established Berent and Woods Inc, a firm that managed many aviation related activities.

    Over the years he had published numerous articles for such publications as Air Force Magazine and the Washington Times, and for 18 years wrote a monthly pilot/reporter column for the Asian Defense Journal. Under the name Berent Sandberg he and Peter Sandberg collaborated on three novels. He now has five Vietnam air war historical fiction novels in print, Rolling Thunder, Steel Tiger, Phantom Leader, Eagle Station, and Storm Flight. (The Wings of War series.)

    Berent states it is never too late for any endeavor: he published the first of his five book Wings of War series at age 58, ran his first Marathon at 59, bought a T-6 warbird and flew in airshows at 64, and rode in his first cattle roundup in Montana at 74.

    Brandon Stanberg originally grew up in East Africa – in Nairobi, Kenya within a heavily-sheltered expatriate community. He loved his childhood, however was under the constant threat of poor security which made Brandon and his family the targets of gun-point theft and late night home raids by gun men.

    In 1982, at age 19 he went to university in the United Kingdom to study English Literature. He was diagnosed with a chronic condition, an autoimmune disorder of the liver which meant that he could no longer engage in the same activities as other university students such as drinking, eating pretty much anything under the sun and going to parties that finished in the wee hours of the morning. It was a struggle – however he recovered fully, managing his lifestyle and medication and graduated with a first class honours degree.     I got summarily fired about four years ago and it devastated me. I worked for a large Canadian industrial packaging manufacturer and had received outstanding reviews on each of my quarterly reports. The only problem was that the branch where I was working had never made money for the company and was located across the border in the US.
    When a change happened at the top of the corporate structure suddenly myself and most of the rest of the staff in the Seattle office were considered expendable.
    Expendable is not a good feeling.
    For about six months I put on a brave face and told everyone who would listen that I was doing just fine but inside I was a wreck. I had been practicing the concepts of universal attraction principles and positive thinking and had been experiencing excellent results. Being in the moment and releasing my emotions, using affirmations and visualizations to create positive results in my sales efforts. Now my confidence had been severely shaken.
    Still, after a while I began to wake up, slowly at first then gaining momentum I came to believe that getting “downsized” was the best thing that had ever happened to me. For years I’d had a small but growing sense that I was in the wrong place. The corporate sales world was not giving me what I needed. In fact, to be perfectly honest, it was beginning to suck my will to live!
    I’d been chasing money for years. I finally realized that nothing I’d ever done just for the money had ever truly worked out and I usually didn’t end up with very much of the money in the end anyway.
    Like the proverbial frog in a pot of water that slowly comes to a boil I was too close to the situation to realize what I really needed and wanted.
    What I wanted was the freedom and ability to express my creativity, be tirelessly contributive to people and let my financial health find its own equilibrium.
    What I decided to do was become a writer and entrepreneur and use my years in the corporate trenches as well as a lifetime of trial error and exhaustive study to compile a series of books and information explaining how to access the authentic attraction principles, productivity strategies and success systems that I’d accumulated.
    A blueprint for the attraction challenged if you will, explained in a down to earth, real world way so as to be accessible to more than just new age forward thinkers.
    I’d put myself on the front lines of the battle for fulfillment and abundance, relentlessly seeking new and better ways to bring knowledge, realization and empowerment to people who are actively seeking it.
