Uvi Poznansky is a California-based author, poet and artist. Her writing and her art are tightly coupled. “I paint with my pen,” she says, “and write with my paintbrush.”She earned her B. A. in Architecture and Town Planning from the Technion in Haifa, Israel. During her studies and in the years immediately following her graduation, she practiced with an innovative Architectural firm, taking part in the design of a large-scale project, Home for the Soldier.
At the age of 25 Uvi moved to Troy, N.Y. with her husband and two children. Before long, she received a Fellowship grant and a Teaching Assistantship from the Architecture department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where she guided teams in a variety of design projects; and where she earned her M.A. in Architecture. Then, taking a sharp turn in her education, she earned her M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan.
During the years she spent in advancing her career—first as an architect, and later as a software engineer, software team leader, software manager and a software consultant (with an emphasis on user interface for medical instruments devices)—she wrote and painted constantly. In addition, she taught art appreciation classes.

About Forbidden Love in the Land of Sheba:15 year old Hana has a crush on her 20 years old cousin Farook. However, he leaves to study medicine in Scotland. Her parents force her to marry another cousin, twice her age, a fat abusive chauvinistic brute. Ten years later, she has no children, and sinks into depression. Farook returns to Sanaa to set up an eye clinic next door.
She attempts suicide with sleeping pills, but Farook rushes over with his Indian nurse, with a gastric pump and rescues her. During follow up visits, the embers of her teenage love are reignited, and she declares her love to Farook, who learns about Gihad’s brutality. She also confides stories about the involvement of her husband, and his brother Hamed, in arms sales, gang rapes and murder for organ harvesting from female medical students.
Farook is asked to inspect the body of one such student at the university hospital morgue, and has to testify at the trial of the suspected Kenyan morgue attendant, who had escaped from Nairobi accused of armed robbery there. Farook detects a scar below the lowest rib of Faten, typically seen after nephrectomy. He is warned to keep his nose out of the case by police captain Tahhan, as well as by Gihad and Hamed. He has to choose between heeding their advice and his medical conscience.
Farook also suspects that the gang rapes are committed against girls who are first made addicts of cocaine snorting, by some very prominent untouchables from the national security apparatus, and the ruling family. His suspicions are strengthened when the courageous defense lawyer of the Kenyan morgue technician is murdered, together with his wife and three children on a dirt road. Farook’s loses his nurse who has to seek an abortion in her native India because Gihad bullies her into sex and gets her pregnant.
As Farook begins to respond to Hana’s solitude, and her advances, and begins to fall in love with her, obese hypertensive Gihad is hospitalised in the intensive care unit with massive brain hemorrhage. Hana and Farook indulge in forbidden love. But because Gihad’s millions are stashed in foreign banks, Hana realizes that she is in mortal danger from Hamed, who feels entitled to the millions of his partner, Gihad, and who stands to inherit all, but only if Hana is dead.
She needs to escape from the Land of Sheba before Gihad’s impending but unpredictable death. In that patriarchal society, she can only hope to do so with help from a man like Farook, who is beginning to get to know many people who might help the woman he now wants to marry, to fulfill her teenage fantasies.

I took on this mortal coil in February of 1976 in Omaha, NE, the only son of Albert and Kathryn. As an only child, my parents were able to devote their existences to catering to my every whim. My Mom started by reading the newspaper to me, ensuring I was up to speed on current events. Once I had outgrown the newspaper, she moved on to Golden Books. As I got older, I learned to entertain myself, mainly through more stories: books, television, movies, or imaginings of my own design that usually involved my best friend and a war of epic proportions that engulfed a massive G.I. Joe battlefield in my basement. I read my first novel in the third grade, a little tale about a dog named Cujo written by some guy named Stephen King. It hooked me, and I took to main-lining novels and working the libraries like an eight-year-old junky looking to score his next fix. I dabbled with my own novels and short stories but never got serious. Still, that love for the written word never died, and I’ve been an avid reader ever since I graduated from Golden Books and threw in my lot with Frank and Joe Hardy, the three investigators, and much later, Roland Deschain and his ka-tet.I somehow fooled Uncle Sam into believing I’d one day make a great leader of men, and he promptly shipped me off to the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY, where I languished in a turmoil of emotions that ranged from apathy to not giving a shit. Maybe it was blowing up my toothpaste tube when I was done using it so it looked full, or drying out my sink every time I ran the water, or taping my socks down so they didn’t roll around in the drawer. Or maybe it was the mind-numbing eternity spent standing in every kind of formation conceivable—breakfast formation, uniform inspection formation, parade formation, lunch and dinner formation, physical training formation, and the list goes on for miles—or standing in line for upwards of an hour at the pay phones to call home because we didn’t have our own phone in our room. Whatever it was, it lent me to writing angst-filled poetry and short stories when I should have been paying attention in class or studying in the barracks, thereby resulting in the refinement of my craft and lending credence to that familiar idiom—you know, silver linings and all that.
In 1998, I graduated from West Point and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Army Aviation. I attended flight school in Alabama, where I learned to wear cool shades and a leather jacket, and something about helicopters. Forgive me. It was some years ago, and my memory is fading faster than a cheap tattoo. It was here, too, I met my wife-to-be, Stephanie. A student at the University of South Florida at the time, she and I met in Panama City, and ever since she’s been kind enough to uproot her life every couple years and leave behind everything she holds dear to follow me wherever I may roam, whether that be to Fort Bragg, NC; back to Fort Rucker, AL; Camp Humphreys, South Korea; back to Fort Rucker, AL; Fort Leavenworth, KS; Fort Meade, MD; Fort Bliss, TX; Fort Lee, VA; or back to Fort Leavenworth, KS.
I began writing my first complete novel in 2003 while attending the Captain’s Career Course during assignment Part Deux to Fort Rucker, AL. However, I wouldn’t finish said novel until 2008, during a deployment to Camp Victory, Iraq, where I served as the Command Aviation Chief for Multi-National Forces—Iraq. During this time, I was also promoted (so we meet again, passive voice) to the rank of Major.
In 2013, I decided to hang up my cool shades and leather jacket and don a pocket protector and masking-tape-repaired glasses, transitioning from Army Aviation to Operations Research and Systems Analysis. I’d spent the last fifteen years refining my skills and building a solid foundation of knowledge, so I figured what better time than the twilight of my career to throw all that out the window and start from scratch in an entirely new field.
So how does the rest of my story go? I’ll tell you when I get there; it’s still a work in progress.
