I love to write, paint with watercolors, and eat chocolate. Not necessarily all at the same time. I love to do pranks too, usually just on my poor husband who luckily puts up with me and lets me think I’m clever. One of my favorite pranks was sewing his work t-shirt neck-hole shut on April Fool’s (I made him lasagna that night to make up for it.)
He does a few on me- his last one was hiding an old helium birthday balloon under the covers at night. I had just finished a spooky story, and as the last one awake, I checked the doors and turned off the lights. As I climbed into bed this apparition rose out of the covers, and I screamed….until I heard him laugh.
I still owe him for that one…..

When I say loving yourself I do not mean in a selfish and pompous way, but rather that you are a good person and people love you because you’re a good person. So you’re a good person and must love that you are in existence and do good things.
You will learn of the basic neccesssities needed for happiness and needed for life. These are neccessary and one cannot live without them. Finally, your body is a great source of happiness and you must nurture it by eating healthily and exercising.

We teach a scientifically-based writing program which allowed us to obtain the following results with a dyslexic fifth grader.

When the students were tested on fluency in December 2013, Courtney had jumped to 154 words per minute with 0-1 mistakes in a one-minute reading session.
Dyslexia is primarily not a reading and writing problem. Our research indicates that it is primarily a lack of organization in the overactive front region of the brain.
In order to assess if this book is right for your child, we ask two questions:1. Have you ever found that when you have a really good idea, and when you go to write it down, or to type it out, your idea just disappears from your mind?
2. In a subject that you really love, such as history, football, or shopping for clothes, have you ever found that you have a lot of really good ideas flying quickly around your mind, but you have little to no organization in your thinking?
If your student answers are yes to these two questions, this book will be a good fit. Improvement can often be seen in a matter of weeks.
We’ll teach you to help your student organize the brain appropriately – once that is done you should find that the student’s ability to process information into a value-added form and express insight into the written form using basic sentences has been greatly accelerated. This compensates for the additional time that a student needs to read material.
Dyslexic kids require a specific dyslexic empowerment plan which is to focus on reading age-appropriate words and more advanced words and to be able to express their thoughts in simple, basic sentences. Unlike the learning difficulties where Orton-Gillingham focuses on bringing the student back to the beginning of education and moving forward, our program focuses on where the student should be at their current grade level and where they need to be in more advanced levels of education. We are able to do this because we are utilizing the significantly overactive front part of the brain which, appropriately utilized, allows dyslexics to work on material well in advance of their years.
The sentence used in this program was created by the Disability Resource Center at the University at Albany State University of New York, so it is equally effective for dyslexic adults. Our test subjects are generally from the fifth grade and older, but the program can successfully be implemented with younger students if they wish to overcome their reading and writing problems, however, they will have to move at a slower pace.Parent Testimonial
Our daughter, Courtney, has struggled with reading and writing from a very young age. Russell said that he would do a few sessions with Courtney to see if he was a good fit with her and with us and then we would decide which direction to go. Russell started working with Courtney three nights a week in November 2013, and she has been improving in her writing and reading ever since. Courtney started fifth grade at a second grade reading level, and within six weeks of working with Russell her reading level jumped. At the beginning of the year, the students are tested on fluency. Courtney had a reading fluency of 90 words per minute with 7-10 mistakes in a one-minute reading session. This is Russell Van Brocklen, editor and founding consultant at dyslexiaconsultants.com. I have dyslexia, and as a child I had to learn to overcome my reading and writing difficulties myself. Since my college days I have devoted my life to researching dyslexia and finding ways to help others significantly improve their writing skills.
Currently we are working with the State University of New York at Albany’s Disability Resource Center on this program. They have provided us with several paragraphs that are quite descriptive in nature. We wrote this book so that parents and teachers will have an effective method to increase the writing skills of their dyslexic students in a meaningful way. It is our goal to help your student reach a point where he or she can write a basic sentence reasonably correctly. Once a student has been instructed with our process, if he or she should fail to write a basic sentence reasonably well, then all the teacher or parent will need do is ask the student to read the sentence out loud and then ask, “Does it sound correct?” If the answer is no, the student will have the requisite skills to fix it quickly and easily.

I’ve always been a story teller but only recently have a drummed up the courage to share my stories in writing. When my kids were young one of our favorite activities was to lay in bed, just before bedtime and make up stories. They would get to pick out some of the characters and I’d just start spinning the tale. They loved making me backup and change the story to fit their mind for the night. Since they are all too old for this now, I’ve taken to writing.Today I am pleased to make my first two works available to you on Amazon. They are both set in the Privateer Tales universe. The first book, Rookie Privateer is the cornerstone of the series. It introduces the main cast. The second book, Fool Me Once, is a shorter, novella length work. While preparing Rookie Privateer for publication, I found myself daydreaming about what must have happened to one of the pirates that we were introduced to in Rookie Privateer and so Fool Me Once was introduced.
Currently I’m working on the third book, a full length novel, with a working title of Parley. As of middle of June, I’m about 65% done with the writing and hope to have a delivered product by Fall of 2014.
My influences are pretty wide ranging. Recent works I have enjoyed are; Elizabeth Moon’s Vatta’s war, Nathan Lowell’s Solar Clipper Tales. Perhaps my favorite modern author is L.E. Modesitt Jr. with his Recluce and Imager series. Early on I enjoyed just about anything Heinlein wrote, including, Starship Troopers and Have Spacesuit – Will Travel. I also loved Asimov, Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle and when they got together for A Mote in God’s Eye it was magic!
I have had to separate my writing career from my professional career so as to not make things too confusing at work, so, yes Jamie McFarlane is a pseudonym. All of my writing is done in the evening hours and on the weekends. I have to admit to looking forward to coming home every evening so that I can spend time with my imaginary friends.
