I met my wife while at a club called “Gators”, and I have two great kids, including one with special needs, which makes for special times most days.
As for what I like to read, anything that will take me on a grand adventure works for me…so “The Hunger Games” series is a big plus.
When I am not writing (or commenting on the world around me), I am a huge movie fan (summertime is my favorite time of the year), I collect music (over 19k on my iPod, with Prince being my favorite) and cheering for (and banging my head against the wall) my favorite baseball team, those 27 time World Champion Yankees (hope there aren’t any Red Sox fans reading this

Although current social trends may include Monsanto and others lobbying congress for the ability to obtain patents on human genetic sequences, it is still possible for us to avoid the world of The Windup Girl, in which ‘calorie companies’ devastate the global population through plagues caused by genetically enhanced, treatment resistant, disease causing organisms.
In some ways, Dystoopian Narratives are great metaphorical expressions of our fears. Stories like The Hunger Games and Divergent open to worlds that are economically, socially, and politically screwed up. There is also typically the presumption that it’s been that way for a long time.
For the characters, the time before global catastrophe is a distant memory. This creates chronological distance between our world and that of the book’s heroin, making it easier for readers to live vicariously through these engaging characters, as they stand up to fascist societies and battle despotic leaders.
Like Fantasy, Dystopian Science Fiction transports the reader into a completely different world. One which is often far simpler than our own, in which seven percent unemployment characterizes the same economy that also supports a booming stock market, and selfies and twerking have been placed upon media shelves alongside Duck Dynasty and a Whites only Santa Clause.
I acknowledge that our world is confusing, but to me it’s also incredibly interesting. Interesting in a way that can be entertaining, and enlightening. This is evident in well written shows like Homeland and House of Cards.
Characters like Carrie Mathison and Francis Underwood inspire me to write The Hacker, Bryce Anderson, Vanessa Stanton, and crazy Rafi. I hope you enjoy them and learn as much as I have in creating them.

Working at 15 years old with no academic qualifications meant limited career options, and eventually, after an early unsuccessful marriage, the lure of Australia drew him to that marvellous country. There, on a working holiday that lasted 28 years, he drifted like a leaf on a fickle breeze. He saw a lot of the Outback from the seat of a motorcycle or from behind the wheel of an old 4WD Nissan Patrol, accompanied for twelve of those years by his beloved dog/companion, Mr. Mo. He worked at employment as he found it—selling cars, cooking, crewing on cruising yachts, managing businesses, farming and even a brief stint in Papua New Guinea operating a jungle resort. After a return to New Zealand in 1996, and the cold realisation that at 56 years of age he was unemployable, he began to write. First there was love poetry, then, as time dribbled by, he began to take a retrospective look at his own life. Since meeting up with an English-born woman from Greece on the Internet eleven years ago, he has been writing short stories as well. They now share an idyllic lifestyle on New Zealand’s picturesque Coromandel Peninsula, living in a small rural community surrounded by hills and the ocean.
