I belong to the Cosmic Fight Club. The Great Mystery is my personal trainer, oversees the whole endeavor, gives me good instruction. Rumi is my road man, laughing and singing and dancing backwards and sideways through wide open spaces. George Breed is my sparring partner. He’s a wily little devil and knows all my weak spots. Buddha is my cook, serving generous portions of his nourishing Heart Sutra soup. Lao Tzu is my press agent, reluctant to say anything at all. Jesus is my cut man. He knows all wounds and their healing. The posted training schedule is simple. No matter when I look, it says Now. I’m always at the gym, always working out, when I think I’m not, and when I don’t think I am. This spiritual athlete business is tough. But I wouldn’t have it if it were any other way.

Cynthia St. Aubin wrote her first play at age eight and made her brothers perform it for the admission price of gum wrappers. A steal, considering she provided the wrappers in advance. I spent my childhood wandering the woods behind our house, pretending to be an Indian. Later, when I discovered horses, it prompted my mother (the history teacher) to put anything she could about the High Plains tribes into my hands. This infatuation lasted for over a decade.

At some point, I got away from Indians. My mother blames boys. I discovered Victorian novels and didn’t look back. I got a BA in English from Truman State University and a MA in English from The Ohio State University.

Through it all, I knew I wanted to write novels. I just had no idea how to do it.

It took a caffeine-fueled car trip with my 92-year-old grandmother and two-year-old son in July of 2007 to awaken my Muse. That story would become my first book as I figured out how, exactly, one writes a novel.

Let’s just say the learning curve was steep.

One character led to another. Before long, my characters were in South Dakota, among the Lakota Sioux tribe. Modern-day cowboys who are the Indians – without planning it, I find myself writing about the people and places that held my imagination throughout my childhood.

In 2010, I sold the award-winning Indian Princess to Stacy Boyd of Harlequin Desire. The book was released A Man of His Word in 2011. Since then, I’ve sold many more books to Harlequin Desire and Samhain!

A Man of Privilege won the RT Reviewers Choice Best Desire of 2012! I was honored to attend the RT Convention in Kansas City to receive my award in person.

I live in Illinois with my husband, son, and rescue mutts. I am a writer and editor at Mark Twain Media, Inc., an educational publishing company. 1. I despise whipped cream. There, I admitted it in writing. Let the ridiculing begin.
2. Even though I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida and as far north as Maine, I landed in the middle.
3. If I don’t make a conscious effort not to, I will drink nothing but tea morning, noon, and night. Hot tea, sweet tea, green tea – I love it all.
4. There doesn’t seem to be much in life that is better than coming home to a big dog who is overjoyed to see me. My other family members usually show significantly less enthusiasm about my return.
5. Singing in my bestest, loudest voice does not make my family put on their happy faces. This includes the big, loving dog referenced above.
6. Yes, I am aware that bestest is not a word.
7. Dorothy was right. There’s no place like home.
8. All of the numerous bottles in my shower must be lined up, with their labels facing out. It makes me feel a little like Julia Roberts’ mean husband from the movie ‘Sleeping with the Enemy,’ but I can’t seem to control this particular quirk.
9. I love, love, love finding a great bargain.
10. Did I mention that I hate whipped cream? It makes my stomach churn to look at it, touch it, smell it or even think about it. Great – now I’m thinking about it. Ick!
