I wanted to be painter since I was a child. I was told, while being assessed at the end of my art foundation, I should go into drama or be a stand-up comedian. I’m short, so even if I did ‘stand up’ it’d be hard to see me and I realise that was their way of telling me I was rubbish at art.
I’ve worked in various jobs and I have been extremely lucky to do what I wanted to do… though I have a habit of changing my mind every so often.

William Diehl (December 4, 1924 – November 24, 2006) was an American novelist and photojournalist.
Diehl was fifty years old and already a successful photographer and journalist when he decided to begin a writing career. His first novel, Sharky’s Machine, was made into a movie of the same name directed by and starring Burt Reynolds. Diehl saw the movie shot on location in and around his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. Its cast included Vittorio Gassman, Brian Keith, Charles Durning, Earl Holliman, Rachel Ward, Bernie Casey, Henry Silva, and Richard Libertini. It has been the most successful box-office release of a film directed by Reynolds.
Following the success of Sharky’s Machine, Diehl relocated to St. Simons Island, Georgia in the early 1980s where he lived for the next 15 years before going back to the Atlanta area. While living on St. Simons, he completed eight more novels, including Primal Fear, which also became a movie by the same name starring Richard Gere and Edward Norton.

Looking up at him, though, I can’t bring myself to raise my arm, to snap his elbow. Instead I pull back and break his hold with a twist of my arm, leaping away from him and bending to snatch my cane up from the ground. I am crouched, ready to run, when I look up and see his eyes.
They’re light brown, flecked with gold, and even in the dim light they shimmer and glow. Immediately after, a woman shows up to invite her to the Isle of Peritia. A place where there is a school for others like to her to learn about their abilities. When she arrives, she is labeled as a Newlie (someone who is first in their family to have abilities) and discovers that is a rare thing to be. Even more rare is the fact that she has more than one, which she should not.
While trying to figure out how to use her abilities correctly, she accidentally smashes a light with a golf ball, catches a newspaper on fire, and sends a book flying at her own head. The leader of the island and head of the school, Asher Dae, gives lessons to Abby so she can learn to control and strengthen her abilities.
Meanwhile, a boy with a scar on the island detest her for some reason and it seems to draw her to him even more. And as she learns more about the island and it’s inhabitants, she also finds out that Asher Dae has a twin brother, Vago, who is wanted for murder. She realizes she’s not safe when she finds out that he wants her abilities for his own bidding.

He received his degree in creative writing from the University of Washington and began writing fiction in 2011.
