I am currently an Oxford based artist/writer (with a degree in graphic design) who has only in the last 3 years become drawn to the medium of writing.After ten years working as a fine artist, one day I stumbled upon an idea for promoting my art: involving characters within a story based setting. At the same time, I had been reading a lot of Nordic Noir and slowly, with the Scandinavian crime thriller in the back of my mind, my idea, which initially was born out of a need to promote only my art, suddenly took on a life of its own.
With a new found energy and the Scandinavian crime thriller as my model, I slowly set about writing ‘The Gingerbread House’, a fictional crime story where the protagonist, Thomas Lyndon, an unknown artist, is confronted by the devastating news that Katherine, his girlfriend is missing. Suddenly, thrown into a world of cryptic clues left by Katherine in the form of an e-mail, a warning he has to unravel, he sets about discovering the reason for her disappearance.
As the story took shape, I rediscovered my own dark past as I looked deeper into the characters, adding parts of my life where necessary to make the characters seem more real; this brought me once again face to face with my own demons. But this time, as I brought my painful past back to life, to my surprise I found it more therapeutic.
Having bought into the realistic style of the Scandinavian crime genre, it then took me two years to complete the book. I can now say that I am completely hooked on my new medium. And to think if I hadn’t stumbled across the Nordic Noir, I probably would never have discovered the writer in me.

41 years young, married, and I have a very young precocious daughter.
I love travelling. I’ve been to Switzerland, Ireland, South Africa (numerous times), I’ve been all over the United States, and I’ve been to Hawaii twice. Hawaii is beautiful, and I would love to live there one day.
I am the youngest of three, one older sister and one older brother. I am originally from Bristol, England. My mother was Irish, and my dad is English/Welsh. So I’m a bit of a mixed blend. People always comment about my accent, as I don’t sound British. They usually think I’m Canadian or American. It amuses me.
I began writing in 2008, after I had recovered from Cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma). A scare like that really makes you think about your life. I certainly reevaluated mine. I read more. Lots. After finishing Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, inspiration struck. Stephenie was a housewife when she wrote Twilight. The only thing that qualified her as a writer, was that she had a story to tell, and she wrote it. If she can do it, then why can’t I? Seems quite arrogant looking back on it, but that’s how I started. I wrote some short stories, poetry, and a rough draft of what would become Cosmic Girl. Then in 2010 I attended a Creative Writing course with Maggie Hamand at the Groucho Club in Soho London, for six weeks. It was this course that cemented the desire in me to become an author. I knew I had it in me to write, and I had lots of stories to tell.

About The Kelpie’s Eyes by Oliver Eade:Bookworm Caitlin can’t think of anything worse than going on a picnic with her parents and younger sister Rhona to the Grey Mare’s Tail (Scotland’s fifth highest waterfall) on her fifteenth birthday. She’d far rather stay at home reading her latest book about an orphan in Victorian Glasgow, Mairi, on the run from child-catchers after escaping from the orphanage. To cap it all it starts to rain, but things change when lured by something in the waterfall below, she falls onto the back of an eyeless kelpie and, now believing she’s really Mairi, is transported to a fairyland where Mairi is the true Princess. But the Kelpie has other plans for the girl: to steal her eyes and soul using the malevolent little humming bird, and rule the fairyland plus ‘The City’… which turns out to be Victorian Glasgow.
Mairi gets dumped in a cave guarded by Craddick the Gnome, Keeper of the magical Sword, but Mairi overcomes him and orders him to take her to the Palace on the Mountain. Intercepted by the Kelpie, Craddick, who has fallen for the Princess, escapes with the Sword whilst Mairi is imprisoned in the Palace dungeon to await the Humming Bird.
Meanwhile Craddick is taken back across the waterfall by the mysterious White Boobrie (a giant bird) to get Rhona. They too arrive at the Palace… after Mairi has outwitted the jailer and Humming Bird, and the girls meet in the Palace courtyard where a battle is waging between gnomes loyal to the Kelpie and those wishing to follow Craddick and the Princess.
Mairi (also Caitlin) doesn’t recognise her sister, but they escape by leaping from a palace turret and are caught by the White Boobrie and taken to the safety of the Wood of the Seelie (good) Faeries. Here Mairi learns about the Woodcutter’s son, Lachlan, childhood sweetheart of the child Princess Mairi; also about his father who is the only one alive who knows a secret that might free the Kingdom from the Kelpie. They discover Lachlan locked in the dungeon underneath a ruined tower where he used to play with little Mairi; using the magical Sword, they overcome the nasty Redcap who imprisoned the boy and liberate him. Together, the three youngsters travel across the Wall-without-end to the City where they believe Lachlan’s father must be hiding.
Relationships between the girls become strained when Rhona gets keen on Lachlan. In the In the City, she decides to go missing in the hope that Lachlan will come looking for her. He doesn’t. Instead, she’s captured by child-catchers and ends up in the poorhouse. Faking injury, she’s taken from the children’s work hall to the sick room where she discovers Lachlan’s father. He’s been cruelly tortured by the Kelpie’s spies when they’d tried to extract the secret from him. He whispers this to Rhona… a riddle that makes no sense.
Meanwhile, Mairi and Lachlan, also seeking Lachlan’s dad, have been hiding in a cupboard in the poorhouse after the place is overrun by black (evil) boobries and child catchers. They enter the sick room just after Rhona has been told the secret… followed by child-catchers. Lachlan’s Dad demands his son kill him immediately with the magical Sword. Lachlan has no other option after the child catchers grab Mairi. His father vanishes after the Sword is plunged into his chest… but Lachlan becomes stronger. Unfortunately he’s too late to save Mairi who gets whisked back to the Palace Royal Bedroom to await the Humming Bird.
Devastated, Lachlan and Rhona return to the Seelie Faeries to find a huge army of good fairies plus the White Boobrie.
In a final fight between the forces of the Kelpie and Lachlan and his folkowers, all seems lost until Rhona realises the meaning of the riddle. This allows her to alter the course of battle: the Kelpie turns back into the horse from which her mother fell ten years before, a horse that Lachlan mounts in his final confrontation with Auld Clootie, the Devil who’d been responsible for the Kelpie.
Yes, Auld Clootie is defeated… for the time being. Rhona realises she’s no longer a part of this fairyland and is taken by the White Boobrie back across the Grey Mare’s Tail to the Scottish Borders to discover her sister Caitlin in a coma after falling in the water. The medics allow the sisters to travel together by helicopter to hospital.
Cailtin makes a miraculous recovery. What she says later confirms for Rhona that this wasn’t just a dream… particularly when she sees that a new boy at school is actually Lachlan. At first disappointed, she cheers up on learning that the boy has a younger brother, Rhona’s age, who’s his spitting image.

A lot of Bob’s inspiration comes from deep thinking while in his sanctuary – a place called Ashley reservoir located in western Massachusetts. The book cover is in fact a photograph of a wooded path in this reservoir area.
When asked to describe himself, Bob simply said “I wake up each day with a Holy Spirit within, and I look out in wonder as to why people don’t seek the better way.”

I adore Edgar Allan Poe and when I started “Forevermore” by Jim Musgrave I thought, “Oh no…another book about how bad Poe was.” Was I in for a marvelous shock! The author, Jim Musgrave, envisioned a young man who admired Poe, even lived in his cottage, and wished to find out what Poe died of, why and who was responsible for the death of the dark poet.
Delving into Poe’s life just before he died, Patrick O’Malley began his quest into Poe’s death. The search for the truth led him to many famous writers such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who hated Poe. John Anderson, the owner of a tobacco shop, who violated a young woman who worked for him, is another. She was the famous “Mary” from one of Poe’s novels. O’Malley was told Anderson paid Poe to write the tale to avoid suspicion regarding her death. Oddly enough, John Anderson lived in Sleepy Hollow made famous by the tale of the “Headless Horseman”. Other famous names were sprinkled throughout this mystery. Literary references ran rampant and Musgrave was adept at making them fit into his tale.
You will also be introduced to the low life. McKenzie, who became a protector, was head of the Plug Uglies. I’ll let you read the book to find out what that means. I also met a certain Madame who introduced O’Malley to heights he had never attained before. You will find Joshua Reynolds a person who could have been the subject of Poe’s worst visions.
There is no generally accepted reason for Poe’s death. Some said alcohol, some dementia and others believed diabetes. We know he died in Baltimore in the gutter, dressed like a bum. Mr. Musgrave weaved a wonderful tale and came up with a perfectly believable reason for not only how Poe died, but also why he died like a bum. He was killed. If you want to know by whom, you will have to read the book.
