They have two daughters, one son and two grandsons. “Life in the Gumball Machine” is Maureen’s first book and was inspired by her youngest daughter’s fourth grade creative writing assignment. From that one page, a story of action, adventure, humor and friendship was born. Part two to this series, “Life in the Gumball Machine-Vinnie and Gordy’s Return” reunites the characters in a quest to help their little gumball pals, Vinnie and Gordy, return safely to their home inside the gumball machine. They quickly learn this is not as easy as it sounds.Maureen’s next publication will be another children’s fantasy-and-magic chapter book. She also has two novels in the works and hopes to have the first one published in early 2015. In addition to writing, Maureen loves all forms of art, especially music and dance.

After cracking the difficult, and quite frankly exhausting, case of Jocular’s’ missing lycanthropes, Ollie had taken some time to sort through some of his Uncle’s vast accumulation of paperwork. There was all the usual stuff. Bills for cape cleaning (blood is hell to shift), receipts going back hundreds of years (he found one for a gas powered fang cleaner dated 1756), letters of thanks for work done and some magazine renewal forms (two of which were for publications that Ollie had (a) never heard of and (b) never wanted to hear of. They revelled under the headings of ‘Bleeders Wives’ and ‘Double O Positives, How does all that fit in one cup?’ Ollie was sure that his Uncle would only peruse these publications for the articles on the latest hansom cabs, but they went in the bin regardless). There was also the odd invitation or two. One of them was asking old Gorge to attend the Antichristening of his Demigodson, so Ollie replied to that one informing the sender of his late Uncle’s demise. The second was an invitation to attend a conference in London where all of the delegates gathered to hear lectures, join in discussion groups and get involved in workshops doing table top exercises and giving presentations. The whole weekend was organised by the BBC (British Bloodletting Corporation) and the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Preservation of Carnal Acts), two charitable bodies whose sole intent was the advancement of the modern day undead. Ollie had figured that not only would it be a chance to get away for a few days to relax and blow away the cobwebs, which in Stitches’ case was the literal truth, because his armpits were a constant problem, but he might get some valuable networking done. Not a bad idea, now that he had a computer with darknet access installed in his office.

Most crucially of all because I write vampire fiction, I portray my vampires as VAMPIRES, yes they may be capable of love but it is tortured love. They do not inhabit a pleasant world, if they are good it is because “they do less evil than themselves.”

She snapped awake to gentle shakes from Ulva. Even though the spring was on its way the nights were still long. The dark hours after midnight were at hand and the firewood was about to run out. In order to save the little they had left, they let the campfire burn down to embers and kept their eyes focused to the dark forest. There was movement to be seen now and then, on the edge of the fading circle of light, and you could hear the sounds of paws over the crackling of the fire. The wolves were still out there and the diminishing flames tempted them closer and closer.
“There goes the last of the firewood,” said Armas. There was fear in his voice and in his eyes that gleamed by the glowing fire. The fire brightened for a moment, throwing sparks high up to the air.
“You keep your arrows and your knife ready. We haven’t been eaten yet,” Vierra stated encouragingly and stepped nearer to the boy. “Stay close to me.” The young boy’s fear awakened her maternal instinct. She stood by the fire that slowly waned into embers, with an arrow on her bowstring and her green eyes flashing. Frighteningly fast the campfire dimmed to a faint glow while a pale hint of light could be seen in the eastern horizon.
When the morning glimmer created a grim, dark blue moment, the wolves began their attack. They came simultaneously and from multiple directions as if the surrounding forest was shooting dark gray arrows over the deep blue field of snow. Vierra’s bow sang the vivid song of death and many of the dark gray arrows halted midflight on the snow, stopped by a smaller and even angrier arrow. The men were busy with their bows too and it wasn’t long before the wolves gave up and fled back to the shelter of the forest.
“Let’s pack our gear and leave, they’ll linger nearby anyway waiting for another chance,” said Ulva. He gathered the arrows off the bodies of the fallen wolves.
“Let’s gather these first,” Armas said and started to skin one of the animals. “These are valuable.”
“Take the flesh too. If everyone else in your village is as hungry as you, it’ll come in need,” Vierra ventured.
“Runtamoinen will not like it, and probably not the skins either,” Armas considered.
“Don’t care about Runtamoinen,” the taciturn Raito snorted. “We’ll just say that it came off a moose, and he happily eats it.”
“It’s not wise to annoy Runtamoinen. He is more powerful than all the other villagers combined,” said Ulva with an irritated voice.

I found out that there were books of Tarzan, my childhood hero. My mother started to read them to me, but censored them – all of you who have read them know why. Annoyed by this, I started to read them on my own. Dreams and legends have followed me from those days, as companions on my voyage through life.
Only few years after that I thought about writing for the first time, but for a long time I pushed it away from my mind for supposedly more important things. Finally I understood that none of my stories would ever see the daylight until I got started, and I did.
From the days of Tarzan, exciting adventures and fantasy stories set in the past and the future have been my interest. Thus, the natural choice for me was to start writing science fiction and fantasy.
