   Mary Christian Payne is an accomplished business woman, who has held high ranking, management positions with Fortune 500 companies, in New York City, St. Louis, Missouri, Orlando, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is a recipient of the Mayor’s Pinnacle Award in Tulsa, for directing a highly successful program at The Women’s Resource Center at the University of Tulsa. All of these positions involved significant amounts of writing. She has also acted as a speech writer for high profile political figures, and for executives of major corporations.

   She is now a retired Career Psychologist. She was the founder and President of Transitions Counseling Center, in partnership with her father, the retired CEO of a four billion dollar retail organization. She has taught seminars throughout Oklahoma. Mary Christian is a world traveler, and has spent extensive time in England, thus creating an excellent foundation for writing novels set in Great Britain. The era of World War II has always held tremendous appeal for her, and she is a committed Anglophile. The daughter of an Army Major during World War II, she grew up hearing countless stories of that tumultuous and romantic time.

   I believe it was William Stringfellow who said, “God writes straight with crooked lines.” My path to fiction writing would bear that out.

   Raised in a Christian home in Nebraska, I majored in both writing and biblical studies at Houghton College (New York) in the 1980s, completed a graduate degree in systematic theology at Wheaton College Graduate School, and then acquired a master’s degree from Garret-Evangelical Theological Seminary, followed by a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.

   I placed poetry and fiction in college publications, as well as in Cornerstone Magazine, but eventually focused on nonfiction as a student, publishing articles in The Other Side magazine and small denominational journals. My nonfiction writing culminated in my doctoral dissertation, Ronald Sider and Radical Evangelical Political Theology, which has been cited in a few scholarly works since.

    Things were not always this way. About ten years ago, many members of my family were obese and did not take their health seriously. That was until two of us got sick with a fatty liver disease. I was barely out of my teenage years at the time, but it was a wake up call, which got me to take the lead in changing the ways we were living and thinking.

    My research into health and nutrition sparked a passion in me that I am living to this day, not only by helping people around me, but also as a writer of books on personal development, nutrition, health and financial freedom.
