I’m 18, and I just graduated this year. I didn’t get to enjoy it, though. I was working at the grocery store as a checkout girl, when the first zombie slammed into the clear glass. I’ll never forget the fear that washed over me at the sight of his red, hungry eyes. That night marked the loss of my innocence…. And my freedom.
Now, my life is something different. No longer can we take the basic things for granted, not to mention our lives. The zombies destroyed our entire town that first night, including the family of the college guy I had a crush on. We were able to save him, but he’s not the same. He’s different, but so am I.
Our numbers are extremely small, but the humans have united. A new group of survivors is emerging in this nightmarish world…. And we aren’t afraid to fight dirty, if it ensures our survival.
We had to leave Pleasant in order to save our lives. We barely made it out alive. These zombies are entirely different than the ones from television. They are fast, preternaturally strong, and even aware. They used that awareness to discover our small group of survivors. Without Kellan, we’d be dead right now, wandering the streets of Pleasant.
Kellan is something completely different than any man I’ve ever seen before. He’s too powerful and too controlled to ever be anything like the average male. I can’t explain him, but I’m glad he’s on our side. Heaven help us all, if he ever decides we’re not worth the effort.
He’s taken us to his home outside of town, if the massive fortress can be considered that. It’s large enough for many more than us, self-sustaining should we be forced to remain behind the high fence. There’s something strange about the way he was so prepared for the zombie apocalypse, but it’s not my place to question it. I’ve learned that Kellan doesn’t enjoy questions, and he doesn’t want anybody getting too close.
I’m leaving a handwritten map here in the hopes that there is still someone alive in this town to find it. God, I hope you are. It feels like we’re the only ones left, and it’s horrifying…

Tom Golabek was born & raised in Yonkers, N.Y in 1946.He joined the military as soon as he hit 18. He is a Vietnam combat vet ’67 serving in the U.S. Navy for 5 years from ’64-’69. Tom was a Gunners Mate mostly stationed on board the USS Barney (DDG-6), a guided missile destroyer, and attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class.
Tom wrote his first book, while at his battle stations during the quiet times. It helped to fight the boredom and keep alert,
The hero in this story was a New York City private investigator named Mike Murdock. Nicknamed by the police, his friends, and his enemies as MadDog. He was truly New York City’s most violent private investigator.
It took over 40 years to publish this book. There are now four books in this series.
Some things just come slowly for Tom. He received a total of six awards and commendations yours is his time in Vietnam. The only problem was that most of them did not show up for 40 some years after he was discharged.

In my reading about successful people, regardless of the field in which they have excelled, the most common factor that they attribute their success to is their ability to set and work toward documented goals.
Presidents of nations, heads of corporations, actors, celebrities, artists, authors and sports people alike all reference their ability to set clear goals as a factor in their ultimate success.
Can it be that simple? Write down what you want, work toward the goal and achieve it? Often something that appears so simple has layers of complexity behind it and in some instances I have found goal setting to be challenging while in others, achieving something I have wanted in life has been so simple it felt completely effortless. In my early career everything I set my sights on, I achieved and, as soon as the achievement was ticked off and without stopping to take a breath, I would replace it with another goal, attacking it with a relentless determination (something I now understand to be a critical factor in my success!).
After leaving the corporate world, entering the realm of motherhood and starting my own business I found it harder and harder to not only achieve goals but to even begin to work out what I wanted to do. I had changed, I didn’t know what I wanted but I knew that I didn’t want to re-enter the cut-throat corporate world that I had previously excelled in. At the same time, I yearned for the part of me that had, unknowingly, tapped into the recipe for success and I definitely wanted to understand the specifics of what it was that I used to do so that I could re-apply the process and principles to something I wanted to do today.
Over the last five years I have spent most of my own personal development time on exploring the deeper concepts of goals setting or what many refer to as Manifesting. Reading books, watching DVD’s and listening to audios from great teachers and philosophers like Neville Goddard, Dr Wayne Dyer, Esther and Jerry Hicks, Jim Rohn and many more.
