My first book takes place in a make-believe town modeled on my hometown of Braman, Oklahoma. It was a fun place to grow up, and a fun place for the characters in The Nana Files to spend time.

I come originally from Merseyside in the UK, but now live in Spain where I teach history. I’ve been writing forever, submitting my first book back in 1979, so you can see I don’t give up easily. I am published by small independent presses and try to write every day, although I tend to do most of my work at weekends. I’m a great lover of films, so I tend to play out my books in my mind as if I were sitting in the cinema, which seems to help!

When I do get a few moments, I read, mainly historical thrillers, and plenty of contemporary thrillers too, especially Harlan Coben and Henning Mankell. Measuring for hoof boots can be a little tricky. While the boot companies provide diagrams and tips to help you, the diagrams are of fictional hooves. Not many horses hooves look picture perfect like the diagrams do, so how do follow the instructions?

Because hooves come in all shapes and sizes, and to be blunt, the hooves most likely to need boots for rehabilitation will be the most ‘interesting’ shapes and sizes hoof boots are usually produced for hooves somewhere in the middle.

While that makes manufacturing the boots easier, it doesn’t always suit us, the people and horses using the boots, so well.

Getting the wrong size can be costly and time consuming with all the postage and returns and waiting for the delivery of a different size.

So I decided to write a guide to measuring hooves that don’t fit the norm. If your horses hooves fit into the ‘interesting’ category then there’s plenty of tips as to how to manage that. If your horse has wonderfully normal hooves, it will help you have more confidence that you’re getting it right.

Because – let’s face it – if the hooves were perfect you probably wouldn’t need hoof boots in the first place!

I expect you want to know a bit about me so you can decide whether or not you want to read my books. My blog hoofgeek.com is a great place to start to get an idea of how I write, what kind of things I write and the values and principles I live by.

I grew up around horses. While the family business was more traditional horsemanship my personal interests lead me to study horse behaviour, psychology, natural horsemanship, nutrition and barefoot hoofcare methods. At the same time I was studying horsey stuff I was learning as much as possible about human health and fitness techniques, martial arts based healing, bodywork, diet and nutrition as well. (yes, I know, it’s a bit obsessive but it’s ok as long as you use it to help people – right?!?!)

It turned out that the underlying principles of everything I was learning was very much the same. Create an environment where it’s easy for the things you want to happen, and difficult for the things you don’t want to happen. Whether that’s getting a reluctant horse into a trailer or a hoof to start producing good quality hoof horn, it’s all about setting yourself up for success.

This means I like to keep things as simple as possible. One of the main things I learned through horse training is you don’t get points for doing things the hard way. So if something works, I do it and if something doesn’t work, I don’t.

Do no harm is a wonderful principle that gets quoted all over the place, but it’s also worth understanding what harm is, and how it can be caused, if you want to avoid it. I think that success is not only about what you do. What you don’t do is equally important, and patience is as essential as being proactive. Often, less is more.

What I try to do in my articles, books and courses, is break things down so they are a simple as possible, yet give you a deep understand of what you’re doing, and more importantly why. Identifying why you want a certain result, before you decide on you plan of action can save you so much time and stress!

Helping horse owners get the most out of their efforts is really important to me, whether that’s improving their relationship with their horse, reducing yard work so you have more time for the fun stuff, or explaining what’s going wrong to ease the worry and stress when problems occur.

My name is Richard Porter in 2009. The doctors told me I had Prostate Cancer. At that time, I had just received a lead role in a play that I was acting in. The doctor told me to come into his office and sit down, that he wanted to explain some things to me.

Mr. Porter the doctor said. You have three choices. You can do nothing and you will survive three years. Then we will only be able to make you comfortable with some medication. The second thing is to have an operation and clear all the Cancer out of your body. And lastly, you may take radiation treatments for that will also clear the Cancer from your body as well.

The medical procedures will leave you with some problems for the rest of your life. These procedures if done early enough will leave you with a better quality of life. We have seen a 90% success rate from having these procedures done. I walked out of that office afraid and angry.

Once I arrived at home,called my children, and we discuss, what would be the best decision for the family. We all agreed that radiation would be the best way for us to go. That was in November of 2009 as I went through those horrible weeks of radiation. Five days a week without fail.

I studied 300 lines that I had to bring to memory. I was the lead actor in the play called “The Devil Is Loose”. Most of those eight weeks were very uncomfortable. I still was able to perform and did a good job. I told none of the production staff about my medical condition.

I was born in Bromley, Kent back in the early seventies. I spent most of my childhood riding bikes, playing tag and kicking tin cans around the street, unless there was an actual football to hand. At the age of fourteen I had a milestone experience. Prior to that I had never shown the slightest interest in writing, if I remember rightly I wanted to be an astronaut, but then I got put into detention one afternoon. I had failed to bring in my homework assignment and the teacher had punished me by forcing me to write a short story during the lunch time break. While all the other boys kicked tin cans around the playground, I was sat in a room on my own with a sandwich, a carton of Kia-Ora and an exercise book. I picked at the sandwich while staring at the blank pages in front of me and then it happened. All of a sudden a story formed in my head and I almost instinctively threw in down on the paper. 45 minutes passed in what felt like seconds and the short story which I had called ’Thinking Crash’ was spread throughout the exercise book in my scruffy, barely coherent handwriting. I had never fallen into a story like that before, where my hand was struggling to keep up with my brain and I didn’t look up once from the pages until I heard the lunch bell ring. Ever since that day I have been hooked. I could have been circling the earth in a tin can and eating my dinner out of a tube if it wasn’t for that one stint in detention; I still like to consider it as a lucky escape.

OPINION OF GHOSTS

You would expect me, being the author of a paranormal comedy, to be a great believer in ghosts but you would be wrong in that assumption. You would then presume that I have never seen a ghost and again you would be mistaken, confused yet? I consider myself to be a hopeful sceptic; hopeful because I would really like to be able to break free of my own Cynicism and a sceptic because no matter how hard I try, I can’t. Even after seeing things that I can’t explain myself, I fail to convert myself into a believer on the basis that just because I can’t prove it false doesn’t mean it’s true. I regret this standpoint entirely, I see all the benefits in believing in something as strongly as some people believe in the existence of ghosts and other forms of supernatural beings but I don’t seem capable of stepping over that final hurdle of doubt, and I blame psychics for this entirely. Years of hearing how people have been fleeced for more money than they can comfortably afford by Clairvoyants and Mediums has left me armoured against certain aspects of the supernatural. Con artists and schemers who have promised them answers to the soul burning questions that we all ask of ourselves during times of grief. Is there more? Are they truly gone or are they just behind the curtain of death, waiting for me to join them? Are they watching over me, right here, as we speak My mother is a great believer in the spiritual powers of others and has often remarked on her own psychic ability. I have to agree that on occasion she has made remarkable predictions that have turned out to be true, though sometimes it has been in a ‘ball park’ kind of way. Through out my childhood I have listened to her stories about what this medium said and what that psychic told her but I have also listened to the recording of such spiritual meetings. “I have a name coming through. It’s faint but I think it begins with an A, it might be an O or an E. It’s definitely starts with a vowel or there’s a vowel in there somewhere at least”. My mother never failed to fall hook line and sinker but, even at a young age, I could see the vague and fishing manner in which they all spoke. It made me cynical and suspicious when it came down to beings from another plain of existence and I have yet failed to shrug this guarded approach. Maybe one day I will find the proof I need, or experience something that will turn my head a full 360 until I’m sceptical about whether living people actually exist, but until that day I will remain full of questions, doubts and hopes.

The mission for J’Real is to inspire as many young people as he can and show them that they can be whomever they desire to be. Age does not make a difference, but hard work does. Readers have said things like ‘she pulls at the heartstrings’ and ‘she makes you feel like you are right there’ when reviewing her books. She says between book ideas that are fed to her by friends, her own imagination is continually coming up with new book ideas and she has no less than three works in process at a time.

Teresa is a lifelong Indiana resident living in a rural community in the east central portion of the state. As a single mother of three daughters, she returned to college as an adult and earned an MBA from Indiana Institute of Technology. Teresa has spent over 25 years in the human resource profession and has often threatened to write a humorous depiction of life in the human resource profession. Oh, the stories she could tell! She has been known to debate political and social issues with passion and generally does not back down, sometimes resorting to dry sarcasm to prove a point. Cris got the comedy itch when he co-wrote the Alien Television Workshop variety series which aired last millennium in Australia and also in England (he’s getting old).

His previous jobs weren’t so glamorous and included picking out cigarette butts from hot tar and impersonating a Latino. He lives in Rockhampton and spends his time teaching, creating music with The Falling Echoes, an art rock band, running Stargate Activation Meditations and telling stories.

Author Bio:
I’m 38 years old and live in Staffordshire in the UK. I’m as much in love with the world of film as I am with literature. My tastes are varied, but the horror genre feeds my imagination the most.

I regularly attend Film 4’s Frightfest film festival in London, and have met some of my heros and heroines there. I’m hoping one day to meet my all time favourite author, Clive Barker…we’ll see.

Until then, I’m working hard on my horror/fantasy trilogy, the Fallen Gods Saga. Book 1, Sanctuary 12, is available now, with Fallen Gods: Infanticide to follow in November 2013. The final instalment, Fallen Gods: Mind over Matterless is my current project and should be ready in 2014.

I have several more projects lined up, including a possible comic book! I hope you will find something you like within my work. If you like your romance dark and bloody, why not try my novella, The Last Cut is Always the Deepest.

One of the biggest tragedies in modern fiction is the lack of strong female characters. I don’t subscribe to this idea that a strong female in fantasy has to jump around doing martial arts in a tight costume. My female characters distinguish themselves by having a strong moral core, and being able to think under pressure without giving in to fear-induced aggression. I hope my characters offer something a little different for both female and male readers.
You may find my love for monsters quite apparent in my books. That’s because I adore them. We are all monsters in the end, aren’t we? Some beautiful, some not so much.

James Snyder was born in Memphis, Tennessee and fell in love with the cadence and sound of storytelling as a child, listening to the meandering tales of his Southern grandmothers and great aunts. While still a child, his family moved to Napa Valley, California where he attended middle and high school, and began taking writing classes at the local college. He left after a year to join the military, and was a soldier with a tactical mobile operations unit in Germany. It was there, while pulling a Harz mountaintop guard duty one night during a snowstorm, he had the chance encounter with another soldier that ultimately became the genesis for his military thriller, American Warrior.

His second novel is the suspense thriller, Desolation Run. In addition, he has just released the YA trilogy, The Beautiful-Ugly.
