Also it is a large lake containing an island that actually disappears during an earthquake. The two stories are so similar and yet so different. I place the scene of events in Africa’s Great Rift Valley where an ancient seismic event changed the landscape dramatically. The story of these events ultimately entered Egypt and from here was communicated to the ancient Greeks.

Hi. So I guess this is where I’m supposed to talk about myself. Only, I’m not a big fan of the spotlight. I’m not used to all eyes being on me because I’ve always shared the stage with my twin sister. See, that’s the thing. We have the perfect little “Get out of Jail Free Card” in our back pocket at all times. We always have an out. An escape. Translation: We can blame our twins for everything!

Except this book is 100% me, which is terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. It’s like unraveling the deepest layers of your mind and putting it up for auction. Hoping that others will like it, but only because it’s a visceral extension of yourself.   I wrote this novel because there is a lot of garbage out there and our world needs inspiration. So I put the sand and ice in my readers’ hands, allowing them to sculpt these characters using their own imaginations. I describe them, but they get to paint them! There are no pictures–on purpose.

I don’t want my readers idealizing an unrealistic standard, as that would be counterintuitive to the very point I am trying to make. Beauty is relative. I am not one to define it, but I will say that inner beauty is our most valuable treasure. By the end of my book, I want to inspire my readers to love themselves THAT much more–flaws and all.

This magical story touches on the importance of conservationism and protecting endangered species. It shows the power of gratitude, forgiveness, freedom, compassion, empathy, peace, honesty, and faith, while driving home the point that love is all that matters in the end.

It was important to me that my twin characters have their own identities because this is not portrayed enough in society today. I aim to change that perception, to empower people to embrace their differences, while taking my readers on a journey through the crevasses of my wild imagination.

If there is one takeaway message it’s to be a better person. To pay it forward. To speak your truth and be yourself, even if you’re shaking in the light. That’s your light. So own it. And shine. To me, that is perfection. A quiet strength. I believe that raw beauty, in its most vulnerable light, makes for the most spectacular colors. Colors that a mirror could only DREAM of capturing.

–I’ve got a bachelor’s degree from Harvard College. This means I can put two thoughts together and express them in a way you understand. More important, I also know how smart people (i.e. you) think and behave since I’ve been around a lot of them.

– I have an M.D. from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine. This is where I learned how to diagnose and treat problems, including those relating to the human mind.

– I have an M.Phil. from Cambridge University and was also a former consultant at McKinsey & Company. That’s more training on how to diagnose & fix problems.

– I’m a certified clinical hypnotherapist. This means after figuring out what someone’s doing wrong, I have tools to actually change their behavior.

Much more important than all of that: I’ve been on hundreds (hundreds!) of dates. David Woolf was born in Chicago and was reared by his grandparents in Port Arthur, a small refinery town in southeast Texas. He went to high school with Janis Joplin, drove a fast car and earned a bad reputation with the parents of all the girls that he dated. His grandfather told him to get a shovel and go to work at the bottom of the heap at Texaco, or get a college degree. Woolf got a BS and burned the shovel. He had written photographer, Ansel Adams, and asked him to teach him the language of light. Ansel wrote a postcard back and said that he didn’t know if he could do that but if he was ever in Carmel to come see him. Woolf immediately drove to Carmel. At 8 AM in the morning, he knocked on Ansel’s door in the Carmel Highlands and showed Ansel’s wife, Virginia, the postcard. She said, “Have you had breakfast yet?” and invited him in. Woolf studied with Ansel and taught Zone System, Creative Experience and Yosemite Workshops with him. He started the photo/film departments at The Texas Center for Photographic Studies and The University of Texas at Dallas. He also taught at Cal State LA and UCLA, and did a photo book that was well received by The New York Times. Woolf met a gorgeous woman named, Stephanie, and was swept away by her into a new life. They married and soon worked at Paramount Studios with some top people in the film industry, including the legendary Robert Evans. Woolf put in countless hours on a seven-days-a-week schedule, writing sales kits, product copy, production notes and doctoring numerous scripts and screenplays. An opportunity emerged to work with a talented group at a start up called, Carolco Pictures. Woolf took his chances and doubled his efforts on such box office hits as RAMBO, BASIC INSTINCT, CLIFFHANGER, STARGATE, TOTAL RECALL and the TERMINATOR series. He earned a film credit on LOLITA with Adrian Lyon and Jeremy Irons. Worked with Toronto-based PR executive Susanne Krajinovic on the film JASON X for New Line Cinema. For the past thirty years, writing has always been his passion. He wrote his first novel in 2009, a sci-fi thriller about a gambler who could handle anything except… temptation.
