    Q: Why the name SeaMonkey Ink?

    Why not? (grin) What’s not to love? I mean it’s Ink squirting out of a Seamonkey. I mean sure no one has ever witnessed such a phenomenon but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen. (laugh)

    Seriously, when I was in school (high school and beyond) I used to play pranks under various code names – one of which was Seamonkey. I also have always enjoyed writing and back when I started to do so, I used to write everything by hand (which requires either lead or Ink) even long after I got my first word processor and computer. After I finally started typing directly, it still took ink to print.

    Hence SeaMonkey Ink.

    Q: Have you ever actually owned Seamonkeys?

    Actually I have and I’m pretty well convinced that there is a wanted poster with my name and likeness up somewhere in the SIA (Seamonkey Intelligence Agency) headquarters for mass genocide. (laugh) I try but I fail.

    Q: Are any of your characters based on people you know/knew in real life?

    Not really. Most are composites. However, I will say that more than a little of my own personality/thoughts/expressions pop up in my stories and among my characters.

    For instance, in Rebellion Book I: Book of Quay, Phong Quay makes a statement that one day he is changing his name and not telling anyone what he changed it to. I’ve said that to people since I was like 5 – particularly when I get agitated at being disturbed.

    So if any real life person is used as a template for some of my dialogue and character behaviors it would be myself.

    Q: You write some historical novels. How accurate are they?

    Accurate enough. (laugh) I always say I do just enough research to be dangerous.

    I enjoy history and find some of the portraits of these figures, times and places to be fascinating. I actually do put in quite a nice chunk of time trying to make the story as historically accurate as possible though I would like to think my work is more character driven then driven by the time, places and figures that inspired it.

    Q: Is there anything you would like to add in closing?

    After losing the Diamondscale to Butcher Lemore, Paladin Carison Destine and Janetha Sapphire seek aid from the Three Kingdoms.

    Raven has faced any number of dragons before, and killed them all with extreme prejudice. She seeks Lemore’s life. But she’ll have to go through the Diamondscale first.

    And the Diamondscale dragon has scores of his own to settle.

    Part 3 – The Beginning of the end

    War approaches the realm.

    Racing to Bastion to raise an army to stand against the dragons Butcher Lemore now commands, Carison and his companions become sidetracked in a town called Timberfall.

    A meeting is about to take place there. A meeting of the Yis.

    Janetha Sapphire crafts a plan to sneak into the meeting to learn what the Yis are planning. Janetha and Carison and Deacon Winters are agreed, it can’t be anything good.

    Turns out, they’re right.

    Meanwhile, Lemore crafts his plans to take over the old Fourth Kingdom, and from there the entire Realm. His allies have their own plans, ones that stand in Lemore’s way. He may rule the dragons. But he’s finding out that rule isn’t absolute.

    Which is something he will not tolerate.

    The Realm will be his.

    All will bow their knees and heads to him, King Lemore.

    Or they will all burn to ash.

These are humorous, animal, detective stories set in a nature reserve.

    ‘Bheki and the Magic Light,’ which tells how a bullied herd boy becomes a hero, was published by Penguin SA.

    ‘Jake,’ was published by Cambridge University Press.

    Jan’s latest children’s book is ‘The Race’ (an inspiring story for left-handers). It is a story about a left-handed child and the problems she encounters. At the end of the book is a chapter for parents and teachers explaining how to assist left-handed children, and the special equipment that is now available for them.

    Born in the UK, Jan emigrated from Liverpool to South Africa in the 1970s. Her experiences moving to a new continent were the inspiration for her humorous novel ‘But Can You Drink The Water?’ which was a semi-finalist (top 50 out of 5000) in the 2010 Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. This began as a 13 episode sitcom, but when the producer could not get funding Jan turned them into a novel. This is now available on Amazon as a Kindle digital book.

    Jan worked in the R&D department of a large bakery for several years, and this gave her the idea for ‘The Breadwinners,’ a family saga spanning 50 years and set in Durban. This is now available on Amazon as a Kindle digital book.

    Jan has also written a teen novel, Mystery at Ocean Drive, which was a runner-up in the 2010 Citizen/Pan MacMillan YA novel award, and is now available as a Kindle digital book.

    Her latest book is a contemporary romance, “With the Headmaster’s Approval”.
