I have a degree in both History and Art & Design and for my postgraduate studies, I concentrated mostly on British History. I have taught both subjects for many years and my students have ranged from early teens to undergraduates. Later in my career, I specialised in the application of new technologies in alternative education.
I started writing when I ran my own business, Jester Productions, in which I mostly wrote scripts for plays and musicals that were used eclectically, but most often in theatre groups internationally and for major tour operators. As of mid-2017, NASA had verified the existence of over 3750 exoplanets, that is, planets orbiting other stars in our Milky Way galaxy. “It’s very exciting,” said NASA’s Dr. William Kinney. “It opens up the universe. Now we know that we’re just one of billions and billions of small worlds that are very much like ours. If you extrapolate that to our galaxy as a whole, the calculation based on the Kepler data is that there are around 40 billion planets like earth.”
The 40 billion planets “like earth” is the number calculated to be in our galaxy alone, and the Milky Way is only one of the estimated two trillion or so galaxies. This makes a rough estimate of the number of planets in the known universe to be 80 sextillion (an 8 with 22 zeros behind it) (JPL/Caltech, 2016). To offer a frame of reference for that number, picture all the grains of sand on every beach on earth, multiply that picture by 16, and you may get an impression of how many planets are out there.

RKC Puthran lives in Dublin, Ireland, along with his wife, Rashmi, and seven-year-old daughter, Natasha.

Born and brought up in India, RKC started working as a teenager to support his family while pursuing his studies. His first job was that of a salesman for a sewing machine company.
After he was unable to sell even a single machine after two months of hard work in the hot sun, the company refused to pay him his salary, and he quit. He then took up several jobs, from working as a cashier in a five-star hotel to working for a diamond merchant and in the share market.
