Growing up in Texas with no particular direction in mind, I joined the Navy at age 23 after four years of college. I met my loving and supportive husband, Adam, while stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. Three years later we were living in Connecticut where my beautiful son Trevor was born. In the short four and half years we lived in New England I held three main titles: Mom, submarine wife, and student. Three deployments and countless underways later we received orders to move back to sunny South Carolina.

Author Bio:
Richard Stephenson was born in 1975 in Denison, TX and spent his childhood in North Texas. In 1992, he graduated high school after only three years. He then pursued his degree at Oklahoma Christian University, once again accomplishing the task in three years.

Richard then married his best friend before going off to basic training to be a military policeman with the US Army. With his new wife joining the adventure, they spent the next four years at Fort Polk, LA and had two children. Richard was promoted to an NCO and became a Squad Leader and Patrol Supervisor. In 1999, he held the distinction of being a member of the last military unit on the Panama Canal before it was shut down in the fall of 1999.

Richard then went on to Federal Law Enforcement, graduating with honors from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, with distinction in firearms qualification.

Richard currently lives in Southeast Texas with his family where he is working something very top secret.

I wasn’t a reader back then, and when I finally succumbed to the boredom (imagine being in a bed for weeks in a world before the Internet), I finally cracked the cover and my world was forever changed.

The creation stories of cultures worldwide relate that their progenitors came from the sky, the stars, or the heavens. Ancient Egyptian texts speak of their “bringers of knowledge” coming from Orion and Sirius. Native Americans recount that their antecedents were the “Sky People” or “Star People.” Throughout South America there exists a richly analogous storehouse of legends describing the arrival of “Star Beings.”
The builders of Teotihuacan describe their gods as having descended from the heavens. The pre-Tibetan culture, the Mayan, the pre-Incan, the Sumerian, and so many others, all express the same story in diverse symbolic languages—their “gods” came from the stars, bringing advanced knowledge and the gift of civilization. Many of these cultures were greatly separated both geographically and chronologically, yet their creation stories are strikingly similar and, in some cases, essentially identical.
The B’on theogony of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau’s ancient Zhang Zhung culture relates that their “king of the gods” arrived from the emptiness of space in a “resplendent jeweled egg” of “lha of bright light,” at which time “in the sky there appeared dazzling lights, melodious sounds in space, and many other wonderful occurrences.”
Are these ubiquitous traditions merely myths? Are they simply embellished legends passed down through generations beyond count? Or are they representative of some vaguely remembered and carefully preserved reality? Absent an ember, there can be no smoke; there is a kernel of truth in all such enduring creation stories and, especially in light of today’s astronomical knowledge, they cannot be easily, or wisely, dismissed.

Birthplace of the Atomic Bomb, and home to the elementary school where the Nuclear Age went to kindergarten. Also just up the road from the restaurant in Santa Fe that claims to have invented the breakfast burrito – but that can’t be, can it? A breakfast burrito is just eggs, potato, cheese, and chili. Was it really invented in New Mexico in like 1930, as the guy claims? That literally makes no sense to me.

Sounds like the guy was just taking credit for something that was around basically forever. I’m not knocking the guy. I like the restaurant he founded too. I often eat there to this day. And maybe he did think it up on his own and genuinely believed he had invented it. Just like Charles Darwin and the theory of evolution, which originally belonged to ancient Greek philosopher Anaximander of Miletus (way to steal theories from a dead guy, Chuck D).

Oh, and apparently Judy Blume used to live here too, back in the 1970s or something. She thought it was boring. Which, hey, fair enough. She even wrote a book that takes place in town, Tiger Eyes, which nobody ever talks about. Weird, right? You’d think that would be part of the town’s lore. Maybe it stunk. You almost never hear it mentioned in the same breath as Ain’t Ya There, Egads? It’s Me Margaret, and I’m Menstruating.
