Author Bio:
Bertrand J. Adams Sr.’s Tlingit name is Kadashan, who was named after his great grandfather, John Kadashan, a clan leader from Wrangell, Alaska. Adams was educated at Sheldon Jackson college and Brigham Young University. While at Sheldon Jackson he began writing short stories with the mentorship of his creative writing instructor, Nellie Ottie. Mrs. Ottie took special interest in his writing and helped him structure a short story including plot, dialogue and many elements that consist of stories. During the semester, he wrote about a dozen stories; when he finished Sheldon Jackson, he pursued other interests.
One fall he married a woman who had eight children from a previous marriage, therefore his quest to finish his education and writing was interrupted for twelve years. His writing ambition was renewed when he was accepted at Brigham Young University to finish his education as an English major. It was there that he learned the real discipline of writing. He would take out his stories and rewrite, however he never had a desire to do any more with them.
Following is Kadashan’s account of Ms. Ottie’s visit with him years later:
“Twenty years after Sheldon Jackson, I received a telephone call from Nellie Ottie. She was at a reunion at Sheldon Jackson and wanted to fly from Sitka to Yakutat and visit me. Even though I was excited about seeing her, I was puzzled as to why.
She asked to see my stories and then spent the afternoon and evening reading them. After supper, we had this magnificent meeting.
“Why are you keeping these to yourself?” she asked. I admitted that I didn’t think anyone would be interested in my writings.
“None sense!” she replied. “You have so many messages here, and the talent to express yourself about young people, old people and animals. And your descriptions of this beautiful country and people are worth reading about.”
Kadashan was, then, encouraged by this former teacher to try and find a publisher. In fact, it took him another twenty years and his rejection slips was getting thicker than his manuscripts.
One day, he was thumbing through some periodicals at a news stand and saw a magazine that had the photo of a Tlingit woman wearing her clan regalia on the cover. He called her and after he described what he had written and she said she was interested in seeing some of his work. He packaged all thirteen of his stories and mailed them to her. She did not hesitate to use his stories and water color paintings to illustrate his short stories in the Alaska Native Magazine. (Today these stories and images are in his book Yaakwdaat Aya).
In the meantime, he also began to research self-publishing and over a period of time, and hard work, he self-published four books; he is presently working on three more. He writes of his experiences growing up there in the postwar industrial era before gentrification in his book, A Kafkaesque Memoir: Confessions from the Analytic Couch (PalmArt Press). McCort is now retired from Syracuse University in upstate New York where he taught German language and literature over a long career. He has authored literary studies on German and Swiss writers and on the influence of Zen Buddhism on such Western writers as J.D. Salinger, R.M. Rilke and Thomas Merton. During the organization, she gets a strange phone call: She is invited to an urgent meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office. The interrogation officer who has become a close friend, joins her to support the surprised and frightened Dalia.

Into a room full of strangers, the PM enters. He stands in front of the surprised audience and tells them about a top-secret operation the government had conducted abroad, a program in which uranium was mined in a foreign and hostile country, for the Israeli atomic project, pleased to announce the operation a huge success. He thanks the astonished audience who realize they were part of the operation without knowing about it. Their “dead” relatives were the engineers and nuclear experts who performed the operation and that for their own security and the security of the State, the government was forced to declare their deaths.

Meanwhile, back home, In the courtyard at Dalia’s house, the memorial services are in full swing. Dozens of guests came to strengthen Dalia and reminisce about her late husband. Background music is played and guests enjoy food and drinks. Dalia picks up the microphone, and solemnly introduces a special guest: her husband, back from the dead.

Epilogue

In a perfect world, all the characters would live happily ever after, but that is not the case. Kobi, the husband, finds it hard to accept the new Dalia he discovered when he returned. She had become an independent, opinionated woman with a flourishing business. Her friendship with the interrogation officer Gilad does not contribute to the couple’s relationship and the two separate. Kobi marries his secretary, Dalia lives with Gilad the interrogations officer, and the police chief marries the Bedouin girl.

Thuan Doan was born in Indonesia, and grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.

Thuan started storytelling as soon as he could hold a pencil! He can still remember his mother grasping his hand and they sketched out a house and a fish for the very first time.

Broutman has been interviewed by high-profile television programs, radio shows, newspapers, and art magazines to discuss his critically-acclaimed photography books “Chicago Eternal,” “Chicago Monumental,” and “Chicago Unleashed.” “Chicago Monumental” has won a Midwest Book Award for best interior design and an IPPY (Independent Publisher) Award in the Great Lakes Nonfiction category. “Chicago Eternal” is a finalist in the Benjamin Franklin Awards for Excellence in Book Publishing Regional category and the American Book Fest’s Best Book Awards in Photography.

My name is Naomi Wagner and I am a young author who strives to bring a positive impact on the world, all the while sharing my love for Jesus throughout it all.
