A former ancient historian and archaeologist, Tima Maria accidently smashed a 3,000 Egyptian vase while on her first dig! Her supervisor made her glue it back together again. It took a week. From there she went on to specialise in late Roman-British archaeology, and the military forts along Hadrian’s Wall, because buildings don’t smash as easily. From a young age David Sloma was a writer.
The earliest story he can remember writing is one about a shark (no doubt inspired by the movie JAWS).
He wrote throughout grade school (won a Remembrance Day poetry competition), and high school, honing his writing and contributing to his high school newspaper.
In university, he studied Creative Writing, contributing fiction, reporting, and comics to one of the campus newspapers, and also assisted with the layout. This is probably where he got the idea to start self-publishing his own books of poetry, which he did for several years, even getting them into local bookstores where they often sold out.
His first sale was a science-fiction short story called “Cyber” to AlienSkin Magazine. Since then he has completed several novels including the sci-fi adventures “Brainjob” and “Robot Town”, “Boi Meets Grl – a vampire story”, “Deathsun 2012”, several feature length and short screenplays, chapbooks of poetry, and various collections including short stories and non-fiction.
He has given many live poetry readings, and was a runner-up in a “poetry slam” where he had to write a poem on the spot, to the given topic – talk about pressure!
He loved movies as a child (re: JAWS), and has vivid memories of being blown away by the original Star Wars movie in the cinema. His film and TV adventures include attending a film school, and being a screenwriter, producer, director, camera Op., editor, and sometimes actor. His work has been broadcast on major TV networks and specially channels.

Thematically, The Plastic Face: The Solomon Sisters is layered with rich and diverse topics and ideas which are pertinent to today’s society and landscape. Jessie Solomon is the principal character and finds herself struck with enervation when everything around her is propelled forward while she lags behind. Personally, I found this particular trait to be extremely relevant to readers both young and old. The feeling that you are not making headway in your life while other people are nonchalantly successful in their professional or emotional pursuits is a painful but inevitable experience for many people. This is especially true when it comes to sibling rivalry and successful parents, a theme which this book addresses in a nuanced manner. Jessie is someone trying to make something of her life and her struggle is all too real until she gets the break she deserves, something that we, as the audience desire. Her veneer of success and emotional happiness is a façade which proves all too easy to shatter
