Steven lives outside Glasgow with his wife and a few of his several children.
After an exotic early childhood in Tanzania, he returned with the family to their native Scotland via Galway in Ireland. After turning in a mediocre performance at school he spent some time in a very well paid job that allowed him to travel widely across Europe. Unfortunately it took a while before realising that he was working for an international criminal. As the perfect antidote, he got a job in the police, where he encountered all sorts until he gave it up to go to the University of Glasgow. After achieving his Master of Arts, Steven enjoyed a very successful career in teaching before beginning a retail business that specialised in traditional and old fashioned confectionery. Throughout this time Steven wrote for the stage and advertising on an adhoc basis. He now concentrates on his writing and organising his children.
He is knocking on a bit and wrinkly, but undeniably sexy, in the right light. And modest. He has been described as a ‘creative genius’ with ‘the psyche of a true innovator and visionary’, but he tends to only boast about this at parties. Hi, I’m Seamus Beirne. I grew up in Ireland and emigrated to the United States at eighteen to study for the priesthood. After ordination I went to Southern California to teach Latin and English in a Catholic high school. Things happened fast after that: I earned an M.A. in English, met my wife, left the priesthood, got my first Social Security card, got married, and had three children. I spent the next twenty-five years as a high school English teacher and administrator, including a stint as president of the teachers union. Ann and I share our home in Irvine, California with our dog Lucy and enjoy frequent visits from our two grandchildren. Our three grown children are gainfully employed and live away from home. Keeping our fingers crossed.
History has always been an interest of mine, especially Irish history. I am inspired by authors like Ben Kane, William Dietrich, Valerio Manfredi and C.J. Sansom–authors who bring the past to life through powerful characters and a tangible sense of place.
Although I had written opinion pieces for the Los Angeles Times and contributed to school newsletters, I never attempted to write fiction until seven years ago. Q – So, what makes the Inspector David Graham series special?
A – When I set out to write these books, I wanted to create something that played like a movie in the reader’s mind. They are books with action, but also soul. They are ensemble pieces containing regular characters that are well drawn with strong personalities, humor and some tragedy. The Inspector David Graham books feel, to me, like good friends that never let me down. Every time we sit down to plan the books, I love to find out what the characters are going to get up to next!
The Inspector David Graham books are a great mix of genres. They sit firmly in the cozy mystery category and are set on the beautiful island of Jersey in the English Channel between Britain and France. They feature a British detective who is part-Sherlock Holmes, part-Poirot, and, of course, uniquely himself.
Q – In what order should I read the books?
A – The Inspector David Graham cozy mysteries can be read, and enjoyed, in any order. The Case of the Hidden Flame is the second book in the series and is set on Jersey just as Inspector Graham takes up his new post. All the books are complete mysteries.
There is a prequel, The Case of the Screaming Beauty, that provides background to the series but I’ve made sure not to include any spoilers for those who are new to the characters and any existing fans of Graham’s adventures will still find plenty of fresh action and mystery as well as perhaps a few answers in it. All in all, there is something for everyone.

A – Because the Inspector Graham series is a gentle, but colorful romp through the wealthy but isolated English island, a place that is picturesque and peaceful but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices.
Graham is a complex character who is intriguing from the get-go and yet evolves throughout the series while his sidekicks are worthy, interesting characters in their own right. We feature many English countryside rituals, institutions and customs in these stories.
Ultimately, readers who enjoy gentle pacing with a plot that twists and turns, features much fun, drama, quintessential British-ness, and, of course, small town murder all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series.

One night, the Gorgors—servants of the exiled god and incarnation of the deepest nightmares—set fire to the entire city to flush him out, and Dagger realizes that there is no refuge for him. Soon, he will realize that no one can fight against himself.
Note from the author:
I wrote a dark fantasy whose purpose was to break with tradition, the narrative addressing more existential issues rather than the old and overused formula of evil against good. In Dagger, the struggle between good and evil is not clear, nor easily identifiable. It is a tormented process, internal to the protagonist, with an outcome that is difficult to predict. I do not sell pre-cooked messages to the reader. I decided to create a story with multiple interpretations.

Ground zero for a nuclear war was just over an hour northeast of Frankfurt, Germany. The small town of Fulda is nestled at the base of a natural gap in the hilly wooded terrain of West Germany and was a corridor between East and West Germany. Referred to as the Fulda Gap, this corridor was very likely the path the Warsaw forces and the Soviet Union would have taken to invade Europe.
This was the most logical and practical path for an invasion. History has shown other great military leaders had come to the same conclusion. Napoleon used this very corridor to withdraw westward during the Battle of Nations and General George S. Patton used it to push the Nazis eastward during World War II. It was the best location, by all accounts, for the Soviets to send their mechanized units through quickly to conquer Frankfurt, the capital and financial center of West Germany and Europe beyond.
European leaders were shocked at how quickly Hitler had been able to conquer Europe during World War II. To calm these fears and assure them that the United States would not abandon them at the conclusion of the war, the U.S. maintained a significant military force in West Germany for the duration of the Cold War.
The forces on the east and west sides of the Fulda Gap were the largest numbers of military soldiers and equipment gathered in one area in the history of the world. Behind each side was an arsenal of medium range nuclear missiles aimed at each other and at the Fulda Gap area. The brave men and women who served in West Germany were the first line of defense against the enemy horde that would come through the gap if hostilities ever began. Their mission was to hold that advancing horde for forty-eight hours until reinforcements arrived. None of them were expected to survive an invasion and they all knew it. This was what they had enlisted for, it was their job, and they did it proudly.

Lee grew up in Smalltown, Georgia. She graduated a very long time ago from Georgia Southern University with a degree in journalism/public relations. She attended graduate school in English a long time ago at Georgia State University. She also attended grad school a while ago in Secondary English Education at the University of Georgia. Lee was a newspaper journalist before, during, and after college. She worked at McCann-Erickson Advertising, an international ad agency and was very happy to learn that at the end of the series, MAD MEN, when Don Draper was assigned the Coca-Cola account, he would have been her boss. She never would have missed a day of work. She then went from writing to marketing and sales when she worked as a sales representative for Wembley Industries, a national men’s clothing manufacturer where she met Oscar de la Renta. But when she married, started having babies and didn’t want to travel so far from home, she joined John Wieland Homes, a Southern regional real estate company where she met no one of extreme fame. Coming back around full circle, Lee jump-started her teaching career and went back to school (again!) to add a Gifted Endorsement to her teaching certificate. Lee taught every grade but 2nd. She made many presentations during her teaching career at state and national Gifted conferences. She was also a paid consultant in education. While a wife and mom, Lee was an all-consuming (OCD) volunteer of all THIS and mostly THAT…from social to substantial…and ran interference to make her family life easier. Not HER life, mind you. She was too busy to think of herself. About My Life with Dyslexia and other Shit…:
My parents called me a miracle child, and didn’t mind that I was born with Nail-Patella-Syndrome and clubbed feet. Neither did I, until I started school and painfully realized how different I was. I got teased and bullied for my deformed finger nails, my deformed joints, my funny walk and for having a handicapped mother. All things I had no fault in or control over, then when the studies became a little harder, and I failed in my assignment over and over, especially when it came to reading and writing, they had even more reasons to bully me.
I managed to survive school thanks to a few friends, teachers and my love for volleyball. Yet the years of feeling inferior, useless and stupid left its brand. I was socially awkward, shy and feared to make a connection as much as I longed for one. We often laugh when they make fun of a therapist in the movies, saying “why doc, it might surprise you but my childhood has nothing to do with my problems…” or something like it. But our childhood shapes us, good and bad alike.
In my book I tell of those times that shaped me as I was growing up, and how I was diagnosed with Dyslexia finally finding out I wasn’t stupid, I had a learning disability. Most of all I tell how I got from the shy, self-loathing teenager to become an author against the odds.

I was born in 1979 in German, my parents called me their miracle child, because by medical standards then, I shouldn’t have come into existence. Still I wasn’t born perfect, but with the typical deformities for Nail-Patella-Syndrome. As the name says it causes deformities in nails and joints as well as deformed, or to small patella’s.
In 1995, I finished school with a secondary school degree, glad that school, which was hell in many ways, was over.
My first endeavor into the world of labor wasn’t successful, and I returned to school for a while but then after turning 18 discovered a new world and lifestyle. I discovered the bar scene, and quickly fell under the spell of alcohol and fun while changing into a different version of myself. A version that was freer, and which less high emotional walls, outgoing and capable of connecting to other people.
Then after meeting my first love, I was diagnosed with Dyslexia and some of my life suddenly fell into place, like this one missing puzzle piece that when you place it into the puzzle reveals the whole picture and makes sense of it.
Less than a year later I became pregnant and my life and the way I lived it changed. I stopped drinking, got my life in order and became responsible. After having the child, I took a job, with the help of my parents support. Another year later I got married and moved with my husband into a larger apartment.
In 2002, I had my second child and we moved to France where we had found a larger apartment and much needed relieve from the horrendous taxation in Germany.
Being a home staying mom gave me the time to explore the internet, to relieve the boredom I felt between housekeeping and diaper changing. During my excursions into several online communities, I was often asked about rules and regulations when it came to immigrating to France. The questions became often enough that I decided to put all info on a website, simply because I didn’t want to answer the questions over and over again.
In 2005, a publisher stumbled upon my website and talked me into transforming it into a book and getting it published. I warned the publisher that I was dyslexic and making a book out of my data would be a lot of work since I had nobody to look over what I wrote. Yet the publisher just shrugged and told me that this was what editors were for. I agreed and got to work, then in March 2006 my first book was published.
It was a heady feeling to hold my own book in my hands, exhilarating and exciting as nothing else. It wasn’t a big book, just 80 – 90 pages, but it was a testament that I could write after all, maybe not spell it right but produce something with meaning conveyed by words on paper.
Since it was a small publisher I took it upon myself to help promote the book, putting the information about it in all the communities I had talked to before, as well as new ones. Only to discover adversity and insult far too often. When I even got told that people like me should be put down, I had enough and in a way snapped. Since I could hardly strangle someone through the internet, I sat down and poured all my anger into words. I was fed up with being insulted, hearing how useless I was since first grade, I not only poured my new anger into those pages but all my anger for all the years gone by.
I didn’t do it planned, but a few days later I not only felt better but held the draft of my life’s story in my hands. Reading it again, I decided to try and offered it to my publisher, not really believing he would go for it. After all, who was I that anyone would want to read about my life. It wasn’t like I was someone of importance, so why would anyone care to read it. When my publisher almost jumped on it, I was more than just surprised, I was stumped.
At the end of 2006, my life’s story was published, at the same time as we decided to immigrate to Canada. My husband had lost his Job earlier in the Year and hadn’t been able to find a new one, neither had I any success in finding a position. It was a hard and life altering decision, but not long into the New Year did we get ready to move.
Mai 2007 we entered Canada with a work permit, and for reasons I will never be able to explain, it felt like coming home. I had left my parents behind, my family and friends, and yet seeing the open fields and prairie, the little towns surrounded by it, it felt like I belonged. As scared as I was taking the step, I never regretted it.
After we settled in and the kids were settled in school, I joined my husband in the labor force. And for the next few years, we were a two-income household, until I got sick in 2011 and was diagnosed after half a year of living in pain, with Fibromyalgia. As I read up on this chronic pain illness I had developed I realized that at some point I wouldn’t be able to continue with my job as a cook, or any job with physical labor.
I knew that finding an office job with being dyslexic was just as unlikely as finding a job with no physical labor that wasn’t in an office. Unsure what to do I started writing again, first just for myself to cope with this new situation. A while later I worked consciously on improving my English and adapting a writing style fitting the North American market.
In 2013 I had to stop working and not long after quit my job, knowing I just couldn’t do it anymore. Still undecided what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I got a little depressed and felt lost for some time. Then in 2014, we had to go to Toronto to get our German Passports renewed and the change of scenery was like a being battered with inspiration.
Back home I began to write to create a world like nothing I had ever read or seen or imagined before. What had started as a short contemporary romance short story, became a fantasy romance novel series of five books. Representing anything and everything I loved about history, mythology and fables. I had created a world but knew it was far from ready for publishing.
In early 2015 my husband fell ill with a hernia and went into emergency surgery. While waiting in the visitors lounge, pacing from one end to the other, dark worries and thoughts swirled through my mind. The next morning, back home, knowing my husband would be fine, I sat down and began to write mostly in order to come with the experience. One that had me rattled and unsettled.
Before I knew it I had the draft to a full blown contemporary romance novel in my hands. Waiting in the Wings was born, and after working on it for a while and having someone look over it, I published it independently. My spell and grammar check couldn’t find anything, neither could the person I had asked to look over it, or anyone else I asked. I was thinking I had done it, I had written a book without mistakes as dyslexic.
Well, you might imagine that I was wrong, which I was told not long after having it published. I invested the money for a professional editor and republished it a few months later.
And that is how my writing career in North America begun.

I always wanted to be a writer, but in my sophomore year of high school in northeastern Ohio I didn’t think it would be possible. Eventually I decided to also write books — so far more than 20 of them, including James A. Michener: A Biography, which served as my doctoral dissertation at Temple University; Start Small, Finish Big with the co-founder of Subway restaurants; You Can’t Teach a Kid to Ride a Bike at a Seminar, with David Sandler; Network Marketing for Dummies with Zig Ziglar; MOONEY: The Life of the World’s Master Carver; Lonely Fighter, One Man’s Battle with the IRS . . . After I wrote Franchising: The Inside Story, I developed a franchise marketing agency that kept me busy for about 30 years. Michener once told me that a great life would consist of teaching at a university and writing a best seller every three years.
