REVIEWS: 5-star – Richard Sutton Vine Voice – Tunnel 6 is another of Steve Bartholomew’s extremely entertaining presentations of some of the more obscure chapters of California history. I’ve become a real fan, over the years and this book was almost read in a single period. His characters are well-revealed, and the pacing keeps the pages turning. The story focuses upon the railroad camps in the Sierras during the race to create a Transcontinental railway. A female telegrapher, a journalist, a surveyor and a corporate/confederate spy maneuver around each other in a delicate dance. Secrets passed may be truth or lies. Tunnel 6 is as full of compelling facts and historic color as his previous books. If you are a reader of historic American fiction, then by all means, add Tunnel 6 to your reading list.

While humorous and light-hearted, there is a serious picture painted of the era, as the author painlessly threads historical glimpses of the times throughout the book. The mood is not always light-hearted and humorous, as several of the protagonists show their dark side and offer the reader an opportunity to play detective as well as analyst. My timing in reading this was excellent, finishing the book just prior to this season’s first episode of “Hell on Wheels.”

Sergei Panteleevich Mavrodi was born on August 11, 1955 in Moscow, Russia, where he graduated from both: school # 35 and Serov V.A. art school # 1, simultaneously.
He was a multiple winner of the most prestigious school Olympiads in physics and mathematics, champion of Moscow in combat Sambo in the absolute weight category with his own weight of 62 kg. Throughout his career he did not lose a single fight.
Furthermore, he graduated from the Moscow Institute of electronic engineering, receiving a degree in “artificial intelligence”.
After the graduation he experimented with a lot of professions, thus his latest job was a night watchman of “Sviblovo” metro station.
In 1989, upon the occurrence of the thaw period he created MMM cooperative and soon became one of the most famous and successful businessmen of Russia.
In the year 1993 he was the only one who openly opposed the privatization that started in those times, saying that it was a real robbery of the country, and that he would spare all efforts to prevent it. In the same year, on the basis of the cooperative he created the joint-stock company MMM. The plan was simple: to accumulate people’s money, buy up all state property on the money auctions held at that moment, and distribute among the shareholders. Less than six months MMM encompassed already about 15 million members, and Mavrodi himself controlled more than one third of the country’s budget.
At that point, he was arrested on a completely absurd charge of tax evasion (the criminal case later fell to pieces), and all cash budget of the company was seized and disappeared to an undisclosed location. In particular, only from the head office of MMM authorities took out 17 truckloads of money.
Straight from prison Mavrodi registered as a candidate for Deputy in the State Duma of the Russian Federation at the special election in one of the districts. In this regard he was released. He easily won election with a huge margin and became Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. After a year on almost-unanimous decision of deputies he was stripped of his deputy powers (the first case in the history of Russia).
In 2003 Mavrodi was arrested again and placed in the federal special prison #99/1, the gloomiest and obscure institution of modern Russia. Sharing his cell with professional killers, maniacs, terrorists and criminal lords, he went on 15 hunger strikes (one of them was dry and lasted for 8 days) and countless punishment cells (he was even released from the disciplinary cell).
In the year 2007 Mavrodi was released.
The novel “Lucifer’s Son” was written by Sergei Mavrodi while in the federal special prison #99/1.

I have always liked the way the Samurai had a code of conduct involving honor. However I didn’t like on how various serious fights became gruesome, so I added a splash of magic folklore, science fiction, ingenuity and saw what happened. I have hope to make my eBook into an anime movie someday, so far I only have a short incomplete comic about it. I do draw backgrounds, and I already have a potential soundtrack, it’s just the CGI stuff I have trouble with, you almost need a super computer and a kings ransom just to get a big project like that off the ground nowadays.
I am normally quiet and shy, especially about my work locally in the public eye. I don’t normally ask people in person for help unless it’s dire, I usually like taking care of things myself or let things automatically happen by pushing a few buttons and pulling some strings. I suppose there is more to it than that. Before we have the Star Trekie age we have to push through the combustion and self manufacturing age. I look forward to a future where we don’t have to earn money to survive and put food on our plates and have the ability to look backward in time to see how far we’ve gone, and actually learn from the mistakes in the past as well as the triumphs.
I recently found out that I write similar to J. R. R. Tolkien only at a faster pace. Explaining things at a faster pace is better than taking ten pages just to explain every motion or action. Dry and long winded details belong in textbooks not in fiction eBooks. That’s just my opinion anyways.
I do like the occasional video game here and there, love watching anime and admiring the backgrounds and scenery. I find it impressive to see animated scenes added to vivid water colored backgrounds. It never ceases to amaze me. I want to contribute to that someday with my backgrounds. I have dabbled in scene animation here and there, but nothing like the massive projects I want to do. Elizabeth Earle started life by waking up and becoming unsatisfied with reality. Elizabeth studied at the Norwich University College of the Arts after studying a National Diploma in Fine Art. Within the first year of studying a Degree in Fine Art, she quickly changed her mind and decided to pursue her life long ambition of becoming a writer, and embarked on a BA (Hons) in Creative Writing.
Since then, she has had various careers concerning making balloon animals, serving drinks to drunks, making cakes for charity, teaching inmates various subjects such as art and design and life and social skills, and finally settled on her dream on becoming a full time writer.
